46  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Clean boost pedal? on: September 30, 2011, 06:58:02 AM
Anyone out there using a clean boost pedal for their OTS's and if so which one is their preference? I've been looking at the Keeley Kantana and Creative Audio Mk 4.23 (which has a somewhat "treblely" sound on the YouTube demos) neither have I tried.  I have a Xotic RC Booster which sounds better with other amps, so I'm not overly fond of using it for my HRM Bluesmaster.

I don't want to sound negative but asking these kind of questions is pointless really...

Let me explain...
I'm using RC Booster and I love this pedal...with all my amps, including HRM Bluesmaster. So my point is ... tone is such a personal thing that opinion from others should not be your guideline. You will have to bite a bullet and try some of these pedals and find out what works for you.... I'm afraid there is no other option.

BTW...
This amp was built for this ampfest we are organizing here locally... and this amp is a main prize. The guy or girl who will win it, will have to play one of those riffs, just to prove that he/she deserves it.

I definitely agree with your statement... I have 5 amps and my Prinz at the moment gets the most attention.
Mine is a bit bigger wattage wise,..... with 6L6 tubes in it and it can survive in a loud blues band just fine.

ahhh sorry I didn't catch that.... anyway, that a nice amp you have there

Usually only input jacks should be soldered outside... the rest you can easily do within the chassis...

I have no problem with your opinion... non at all.

Just to explain my need to tweak the amps... I usually build an amp and normally just use JJ tubes or something like that. After a while, when I get to know the amp... after a few gigs and after I'm sure the amp had a good "burn in"....then in some cases (not always) I might decide to change a cap or a pot here and there... I don't know, let say to reduce the bass or tame hi-end, whatever...
I also have an access to some private stock NOS tubes and I tried some in my time... for example once I tried Ei in V1 (I even bought one) and the clean side of my OTS was just wonderful but on the other hand the OD was not working at all, so I would have to mod the amp to get what I want if I would end up with that tube. Ok, that Ei was not that expensive but still I ended up with my JJ in V1 at the end... and guess what, I get compliments about my tone every time.
At the end of the day far more important that my tone, is the playing... but to play well, the tone needs to inspire you, right... and that's my goal. When the amp is doing that to me, than I'm done... no more tube swapping or mods.
...and if I want to try something else (which happens a lot)... I have four more amps to occupy me.

My suggestion is build the amp with the parts you have... play the amp and if it turns out you want to change something... than perhaps you stat thinking about new parts
