46  Ceriatone / Overtone / Researching tubes on: July 09, 2009, 04:06:42 PM
I did a search on tubes for and OTS and found various suggestions so I know this has been asked and probably reasked again.

I've had recomendations for Tunsol 5881's as I've only heard good things about those. On another forum some one highly recomended Jan-phillips 6L6WGB

On this forum I saw someone listed Tube Amp Doctor 6L6WGC  as being great tubes. Has anyone else tried these?
Are there any that you suggest I NOT get?

Here is what I have on hand for pre-amp tubes and I'll probably use these:

V1 - vintage Mullard 12AX7
V2 - Vintage Mullard 12AX7
V3 - Mesa Boggie 12AX7 (the only other one I have on hand).

Check out my layout...

You will find deep switch instead of FET input.

Do you have a close up pic that you could post?

Well that's something to think about. Thanks.

I'll ponder this a little more.

Your mod must have been the one I read previously.

I think I will have use for the FET so I don't want to take it away. I'm actually thinking about using that "ground switch" that's on the back and not hooked up to anything and add the "deep" switch. Or at least using the pre-drilled hole.
50  Ceriatone / Overtone / Build and Mod question on: June 18, 2009, 05:15:05 PM
I'm working slowly on my first build from Ceriatone which is an OTS. I watched a youtube video of marianblues doing the test between the non-hrm and hrm.

Overall, I like the OTS but I also know that it's hard to judge based on computer speakers. I do like the deep switch on the HRM though.

The only difference I've found between the 2 amps concerning the deep switch is that the HRM has a push/pull on the vol for the bright and the switch has some different values.

have any of you added the deep switch to you OTS?

I've not searched thru all the posts so if this has been discussed would you point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I heard it put this way, "The TW Rocket is like a Vox gone to heaven."

I know I know this is the OTS forum, but it seems this one gets the most traffic.

Have any of you checked out the NEW Ceriatone Train Wreck Rocket kit?
53  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: New build HRM question on: June 09, 2009, 07:43:59 PM
I had the same question but those wires are only carrying something like 6.3volts so it should be ok.
54  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Step by step BM HRM build... on: June 08, 2009, 02:44:16 PM
6. I installed rectifier board and wired those power tube sockets. As you can see OT is mounted as well... I still need to wire impedance selector and install the choke...after that main boards are coming in  Wink

It looks like you wired the ground switch. In the diagram it has the switch, but it says "not wired." If you have connected it, what does it do and what did you connect it to? The fuse next to it and the power?
55  Ceriatone / Overtone / Question about board on: June 06, 2009, 06:29:02 AM
On the board to the left with the big electrolyic caps what I have is different from what is on the OTS layout.

The layout has from left to right
100uF/450V
100uF/450V
22uF/500V
22uF/500V
22uF/450V

What I actually have is:
150uF/450V
150uF/450V
20uF/600V
20uF/600V
22MFD/450V (this is the only one that says "Holy Grail Cap"

Has there been a change and/or will this cause a problem?
56  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Step by step BM HRM build... on: June 02, 2009, 03:47:57 PM
Rest assured it is helping. I just started an OTS build when you began posting. I've wired the heaters and searching thru the package for the caps for the tone controls etc... then I'll solder them in.

It is helping a great deal. Thank you!

I noticed you also built an Express - how was that build compared to this one? Was it easier or harder?
57  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Step by step BM HRM build... on: May 27, 2009, 02:16:05 PM
This has been helpful - thank you. I'm still uncertain about those heater wires, but that's just me. I know it's only 6.3v.
58  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Dumblelator vs. Kleinulator on: May 25, 2009, 02:59:27 PM
I've not listened yet, but please fill me in on the details as I'm new to the ots world.
I know the K** is from Ceriatone, but where is the D** from? Is it an actual Dumble piece?
59  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 1/2 power mod on a 50watt OTS ? on: May 25, 2009, 03:06:27 AM
Has anyone here tried the THD Yellowjackets tube converter? According to their web site, they should cut a 50watt amp down to around 20w.
60  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS Parts received on: May 20, 2009, 09:11:05 PM
Some words of wisdom from Nik him self...  Wink

1) Mount all hardware first, except trannies
2) Then do heaters
3) Then work on the hardware - pots, switches etc. You will need to do up the jacks from outside of amp and then install perhaps
4) Put in the boards. You can do the small ones first, and wire it up perhaps. Dont put the PS and Main boards yet
5) Put in the OT and choke cause these sit under boards
6) wire it all up, boards included.
7) Put in the PT and do final wiring

Thanks. Sounds simple enough I should have this done in a couple of hours.

I'm joking!! Really, thank you.
