Ok here are some shots. It is possible that something is wrong since I am color deficient (not color blind), but when I couldn't figure out a color (red, green, brown) I had both my wife and kids help.

I didn't think that sounded right.

I had an earlier post questioning my power tranny because the numbers and order were all off and I was confused.

Basically this is what my PT reads on the transformer when compared with the wire diagram.

In the wire diagram one side reads from left to right: 6-0-60-0-3.15-0-3.15-E
Mine reads from left to right: 3.15v-0-3.15v 230v-120v-100v-0- E

The other side of the wire diagram reads left to right: 240-220-120-0 - - 345-0-345
Mine reads left to right: 50v-0-6v-0-345v-0-345v

I'm stumped as to why I don't have good voltage readings on V1 and V2.

All the others are pretty much righ on par with where they are supposed to be.

Where wires L & M connect do any of you happen to know what that should be reading? I'm getting 52 - obviously I am getting 52 from L on the power board. Does that sound right?

Any thoughts?

I will check those.
Let me make sure I'm taking a reading correctly. I put my multimeter on ACV 200 and place the black to ground and the read on the 120v connection from the PT to the on/off switch and I get a reading of 1.2

Yet when I do the same thing on the connection from the PT to the rectifier board it reads 50 (multimeter at the same setting). Does that sound right?

I'm sure I understand what you mean. You want to measure the AC voltage to/from the transformer??

Please remember that you are dealing with lethal voltages inside a tube amp. Leave it alone if you feel insecure and take it to a qualified technicial!!

Yes I wanted to measure the AC voltage from the transformer. I was confused about the labeling on the PT because it was different from the wire diagram; there is another post about this showing pics of the PT label.

EDIT: Here a link to that post http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=1267.0

Check your voltages against this chart then you can rule out that as being a problem

Ok I just checked the voltages and this is where the trouble is. Oh by the way this is the first time I've ever checked voltages.

       Pin 1       Pin 3         Pin 6     Pin 8
V1:  7.38         0.1             009.     0
V2:  30.8         .24              35.      .2
V3:  263          52.1           254      51.6

                      Pin 3     Pin4     Pin5     Pin6     Pin 8
V4:                 455      452      -43.3    -1         21.6
V5:                 453      452      -43.2    -1          22.7

The power tubes are TAD 6L6 WGC

I had to adjust my multimeter between V1, V2, and V3 on Pins 1,2,3 between VDC 20, 200, and 1000: V1 only read on 20, V2 would only read on 200 setting and V3 I used the 1000 setting.

Also when checking V3 I did hear crackling from the speaker.

I know there are problems now how to fix them.

This is a new built amp so it has not worked before.

I need to find a thread that instructs how to read the voltages and then I'll compare them. I'll be investigating later this evening after work.

FYI: I did put tubes in that I know work and I can see these glow.

Nothing.  Huh?

Ok the light came on and the tubes have power to them, but no sound came out.

My first thought is the pre-amp tubes I have are pretty old and I'm not 100% certain they actually work at least up to full power. All of the pre-amp tubes barely get warm; I can actually touch them and there are warm, but not hot and this is after about 5 minutes of being on.

I'm going to pull those tubes and put them in another amp I built that I know works. As I said they are old - they are mullards that I pulled out of some sort of old amp years ago (amp is long gone).

Any other thoughts?

Thanks! I'll give that try and see what happens and perhaps by this time tomorrow (my local 11:00pm) I'll have it hooked up.

Here are some pics.

Mine reads from left to right: 3.15v-0-3.15v 230v-120v-100v-0- E

The other side of the wire diagram reads left to right: 240-220-120-0 - - 345-0-345
Mine reads left to right: 50v-0-6v-0-345v-0-345v

41  Ceriatone / Overtone / Is it just me? on: August 22, 2009, 04:45:19 AM
I'm about to hook up the power transformer and all of the wire colors seem reversed and the label is no help at all.

According to the wire diagram the side closest to the pots (presence, master etc) has 8 wires while the other side has 7.

All of my color wires are the opposite of the pics on the web site. Is it me or have any of you had this same problem? Do you think it's safe to assume the 8 vs. 7 wires to determine what goes where?

This and the pilot light are the last things to hook up.
42  Ceriatone / Overtone / Output Transformer colors on: July 28, 2009, 04:05:39 AM
I need some help figuring out what colors go where on the output tranformer/impedence switch and power board.

I have yellow, green, orange (it may be red - I'm a little color defecient), and black wires and in on the ceriatone web site pics it looks like they have

Green = 4ohms
Yellow = 8ohms
Orange (or red) = 16 ohms

Is this correct? I'm also looking for where the black wire connects.

Anyone tried TAD 6L6WGC's in their OTS?

I was told a while back that these are what Two Rock use in their amps so figured they must be pretty good!!

That's what I just bought to put in my OTS once I'm finished building. I have no idea how they sound yet nor did I know this is what Two Rock uses. I just heard good things about them.

Bump

I'm using this thread a lot right now.
45  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Fender VM or Supersonic 2x12 Cab with OTS... on: July 09, 2009, 04:16:15 PM
I can't answer your qustion because I'm still building my amp. However, I have just picked up a used cab by Port City a 1x12 wave cabinet loaded with celestion vintage 30. It sounds great with my 2 stroke amp build especially with my strat.

Because it's a closed back and ported cab it gives more bottom end which is good because sometimes a strat can sound pretty trebbly.
