361  Community / Chit Chat / anyone heard Sonny Landreths on: March 13, 2011, 11:32:33 PM
Hey anyone heard the album FROM THE REACH by Sonny Landreth
I now own an OTS and would like to get sometone similar to that.
So far I like the clean for stuff I know how to play.
want that luscious slide tone though!
Anyone?

I keep playing with the OD trim and Im gettin close to where I want to keep it then the PAB on OD sounds fizzy, I have nothing in my loop right now and am waiting for a K-lator to come in mail. Dont know if it will help too much but atleast let me add the effects I like Huh?
I first tried my amp on my JSX amp speakers and it sounded awesome!
I have since built a 1x12 combo out of a old Peavey bass speaker cab ( will show pics later, but this is hopefully only temporary )
Got a WGS ET-65 and it sounded horrible all day yesterday.
It is just now starting to lose that brand new speaker harshness, ( atleast 10 hrs burnin so far )
It still doesnt sound as good as the JSX speakers which only really sounded good because they were broken in
363  Website, Store / Suggestions / Ampeg SVT? on: March 13, 2011, 09:59:53 PM
I think it would be cool to do a bass amp.
I just got the OTS and I know Ceriatone quality is #1
A bassist friend of mine asked if ceriatone offered bass amps as well and mentioned his want (lust ) for an Ampeg SVT classic sounding bass amp.
Anyways Nik why not?

That's crazy good sounding!

I just got my HRM 50 built and doing the initial power up routine. I can only hope mine will sound as good.

Very nice indeed!

It will eventually, but not 'right out the package' remember it takes 80-100 hours before it has matured.
OK, As far as breaking in amp so far I started out with a speaker that was broken in already (10 hrs on amp ).
Since I got my WGS ET-65  ( 1x12 in homeade combo cab now )and upon startup (Yesterday)it was alot harsher sounding than the other speakers. I have a looper on my B%ss GT10 and just set a little rhythm track and then let play for most of day while I was out ( approx 8hrs )and then fiddled with it even longer.
Today I have been playin with it for a few hrs as well and it already sounds a hella of a lot better.
And I have found that the OD trim is the most sensitive of all knobs on this amp, Just barely(<9:00 ) past clean sounding is almost what gets the best sound IMO so far. After that it just starts to sizzle too much ( maybe a differnt Pot would be more suitable for OD trim).
Or hopefully that is some of the burn in hopefully

Since I started this topic and found the use of O-scope was needed beacause ears could not detect the sweet spot, I knew it was out of my capacity, but.
I called a amp tech from the ceriatone site and asked what he would charge to setup PI
He said 1 hr or $45 and that he had the equip necesary which is pretty cheap so I might end up doing that.
He did say once you setup PI if you change PI tube you will obviously have to reset PI trim pot again.
So far my OTS FM50 sounds good to me , it is just set in 12:00 position or middle.

OD TRIM?
368  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Who's running dual amp setup? on: March 12, 2011, 12:26:31 AM
So far thank you for all your suggestions
Tone control I agree with you completely on GT-10 being crap! I only have one good pedal right now other than that ( BYOC) envelope filter. I almost started buying a bunch of pedals to make my Peavey JSX sound better and while researching ( GASing ) I ended up learning so much about Dumbles due to a article in Joe Bonamassas Forum about getting his Reverbicated Tone and then found Ceriatone. Because of people like yourself and many others on this forum sharing  I can hopefully stop spending my hard earned moola on Crap Grin. But I am sorry you had the experience of spending probably $500 on that GT-10 just like myself.
Thank you all for sharing

Thank you
That gave me an idea to use my Boss GT-10 which has stereo outs for the meantime until I get decent ABY and better pedals. Only problem I see is both amps are always on which may be ok also for now!
370  Ceriatone / Overtone / Who's running dual amp setup? on: March 11, 2011, 02:58:55 PM
Hello all
Now that my FM50 is up and running I want to maximize my tonal options.
Is anybody here running a dual amp setup and if so what are you using as ABY box as well as which amps compliment the OTS sound?.
I know J Bonamassa likes to use a Silver Jubilee and to me that sounds great, but he changes amps and setups constantly I dont think he even used a d-style amp on the new BCC album, just a bunch of marshalls!
From my understanding the OTS is more pronounced in the mids so the goal is to add an amp that is more pronounced in the Bass and Treble than the mids ( makes sense ) to get a fuller sound.
Any opinions on this subject would be highly appreciated!
Thank you
Todd

Hey Tone Control
Off subject but I noticed you have a nice variety of amps, which order would you place them all in as far as the goto amp to the least used?
I am still intrigued by the trainwreck amps but dont see as many people getting those or saying such good things.
Thanks
Todd

Nevermind the K-lator already found one!
Thanks

I completely agree about this amp being my first born.
Funny thing is I was short 1 part also( PI trim pot ) and ordered one from Hoffman amps. It shows up yesterday and its half the size of the one I needed. The one I received was only rated for 0.1 watts. I was so tired of looking at this amp and not being able to tinker that I desoldered the FET trim pot and relocated it to the PI. Then I installed cheap little pot at FET. Powered up then biased. Then Rock and roll
BTW I only set the PI trim pot to 1/2 way and the amp sounds fine to me but eventually I may bring to amp tech to bring to spec just so I know the amp is sounding its best.
Also one thing that had me scared on startup was I had no sound coming from OD channel, it ended up being I had the OD trim Knob all the way down ( its also kinda like a volume knob ).

Soundperf I am one of the most inpatient people I know, but rest assured once you get that part in and fire her up you will forget about the waiting part and you will not regret your choice of amp.

Keep us informed

374  Ceriatone / Overtone / FM50 Modern Eagle up and running on: March 10, 2011, 02:18:47 PM
Hello all and thank you for all the help!
Just soldered in last trim pot yesterday evening and then powered up, biased and then played the heck out of this amp.
Probably played for more than 4 hrs and can say this is the best sounding amp I've ever played. I heard these amps need to be broken in, if this amp sounds even better after 50 hrs playtime or so Im in for another treat.
I tried some effects and found I will need to get C-lator very soon though.
I like delay and reverb and without having the c-lator effects sounded awful in fx loop.
Tried delay in front of amp and its fine until you engage OD then it gets out of control.
Anybody has a kleinulator their not using anymore that wants to sell?
