227  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: V2a and V2b snubber caps on: December 04, 2008, 07:03:51 AM
anyone?

i have two rather large 500PF caps that i got for my OTS but i want to try it with only raising one value first and im not sure if i want it to be the V2A or V2B snubber
228  Ceriatone / Overtone / V2a and V2b snubber caps on: November 26, 2008, 06:25:02 PM
whats the tonal difference in raising the v2a snubber, or the v2b snubber instead of both at the same time

the 50 watt OTS is really closer to 43 watts

231  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Having trouble w/ Clean Channel of my OTS 50! on: November 07, 2008, 02:49:31 AM
Got the amp back rebiased properly, and the J Zucker mods. Definetly a lot better w/ the changes.  I probably am going to have it upgraded to a 100 watts when I get some more $

i would just keep it at 50 watts. 100 watts wont be much louder it would be easier to keep it normal.
im adding a tube rectifier to mine eventually and making it switchable from tube to solidstate.

What's a good range to bias then?

35mA is standard for most blackface fenders so i would probably go with 37mA
30-42mA is a round figure for most 6L6's
233  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Heads Up: New Overtone Mini 5SE on: November 06, 2008, 09:37:53 PM
i think Nik should make it about 10 watts via 6L6 or EL34 and have i 6V6 bias switch to lower the power to around 5 watts

Kindof like the Fuchs lucky 7. Fixed bias
7 watts for EL 34
less than 5 watts for 6V6

235  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Having trouble w/ Clean Channel of my OTS 50! on: October 27, 2008, 03:41:19 AM
Thanks for all of the info everyone! I ended up putting a spare set of Mesa Boogie 6L6GC(STR-440`s) in the amp and biased to about 23mv.  I also took the advice of running the master lower and the pre at around 7. Sound way better!   The only thing I`m wondering is that on my master volume there isn`t much range. Once I get past 3-4 it doesn`t increase in volume a whole lot until around 9-10. Does anyone else have this same problem?

i get that with all my tube amps. after 3 you just get more breakup on the powertubes
236  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Having trouble w/ Clean Channel of my OTS 50! on: October 26, 2008, 12:14:10 AM
Thanks evryone, I` found out the guy who owned it before me never had the pwer tubes biased properly.

My OTS is biased from the factory with standard JJ tubes. and the clean volume is at about 4 but if i crank the Master up to 10 it gets really dirty
237  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Having trouble w/ Clean Channel of my OTS 50! on: October 25, 2008, 05:44:04 PM
even with the preamp low your gonna get distortion with the master full. its inevitable, tubes breakup when they're pushed like that
238  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Having trouble w/ Clean Channel of my OTS 50! on: October 25, 2008, 03:56:17 AM
if you have the master at full your going to get distortion.
239  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: As promised! My amp’s tweaks and layout. on: October 22, 2008, 10:46:47 PM

Good thinking my friend!
Yes ! one can get variable trim-cap 250-1180pF, but I’m not sure about voltage though. Usually they are 100v max.  Made by Sprague-Goodman (US) and Murata (Japan).

well keep an eye out for some, i've been looking and had no luck

Are there caps with variable values that i could use and adjust for the V2 snubber caps? Sortof like the OD trimmers but this adjusts the V2 cap values
