1  Ceriatone / Overtone / OTS master volume for clean channel on: July 07, 2009, 07:15:11 AM
Nik sent me this awhile back. This might be a dumb question, but on the clean channel, what happens if you run the master wide open and the first volume lower like one would on another amp with a master volume to get maximum cleans?

1) For max cleans, master is low, but volume set high.

Indeed, the amp is quirky this way.

So set your master at say, 11 o clock, while your volume, at 2 or 3 o clock. You will get most clean this way.

Did you adjust the overdrive trimmer pot?
3  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Can anyone tell me what the trim pot between the two 6L6 pots does? on: June 05, 2009, 05:28:51 AM
Hi Adam,
Just in case you didn't get a chance to look that thread up or try it yet, I tried it myself today. It's easy. I set my meter on the DCV scale at 200m. On the chassis between the tubes are 2 red and 1 black tiny inputs. I plugged the red meter leads (positive) in one of the red plugs and the black lead (neg.)in the black one.
Let the amp warm up awhile and you'll see the voltage on the meter. adjust the trim pot til you get your setting. Be careful, the potentiometer is not easy to get at behind those really hot tubes, I've really burned myself on hot tubes before. After you adjust the ist tube move the meter lead to the other red input and adjust the other tube. It's rare that they both read exactly the same even if they're a matched set. One of my tubes shows 34mv and the other 36. Good luck!

That is to adjust the bias for the power tubes. Nik told me it should be set for around 35 mvolts.  There's some info in a Dec. 31, 2008 overtone forum thread, "Noob manual on biasing" about how to do this. I don't know how to send it to you, so you'll have to look it up.
Hope that helps.

mcinku,
Thanks. I did miss that thread. Great info.
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / PAB mod to lower volume jump? on: May 10, 2009, 06:18:04 PM
Hi,
When I engage the PAB on my OTS special. The volume jump is so significant,
I never use it. I know it's a boost, but is there a way to get the tonal difference,
but keep it in the volume range of the amp when the PAB it is off? I'd like to be able to play the amp an all modes, but without the huge volume jump when the PAB is engaged.

Are you using a kleinulator or straight in the loop?
8  Ceriatone / Overtone / moving OD trim pot to back panel. difficult? on: May 01, 2009, 06:33:15 AM
I have an ODS later model with the OD trim pot inside. How difficult would it be to add a pot on the back panel ala the new bluesmaster amp layout. Is the 100K L pot mean linear? Is it an easy mod? Can I just remove the old trimmer and bring wires over from the old circuit board location to the new pot? any Noise issues? I think it would be a great advantage to be able to dial in the OD amount on a gig.
I appreciate any input from forum members.
9  Ceriatone / Overtone / Bluesmaster owners please check in on: April 26, 2009, 06:39:18 AM
Anybody have or play the Bluesmaster model? please tell me about it.
10  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS clean channel not very loud on: January 03, 2009, 06:55:52 PM
My amp is newer version. I bought it in Oct. 08 and got it in late November.
I'm wondering if those experiencing volume problems have the newer amps with the Zucker/ Ayan changes. Do you guys with loud amps have the older S&M version
or newer ones?
11  Ceriatone / Overtone / OTS passive effects loop with reverb pedal/Kleinulator on: December 28, 2008, 09:33:59 AM
I want to use a Holy Grail reverb pedal with my OTS. Will it work in the passive effects loop or is it best to run it in front of the amp? Do you need a Kleinulator in all cases to run the effects loop? what does a pedal in the loop without  the K unit do to the amp or sound?
Thanks
12  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS clean channel not very loud on: December 27, 2008, 09:04:24 AM
Are you guys talking about the clean channel only, or the overdrive
channel? My beef is with the clean channel only. If I run the clean channel only with v=12 and M=12 I can't play it in a band. The overdrive channel is a different because I can turn up the OD level and OD ratio.
13  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS clean channel not very loud on: December 21, 2008, 09:54:52 PM
Hey guy's thanks for the help. I've tried all the above mentioned hints to no avail. For now, I'm running Eminence Red White and Blue speakers in a 1X12 or 2X12 cab without a lot of difference. Even in my living room with
input volume and master volume at 12 oclock, the amps not that loud. Even with tube swaps, it's the same. Must be something wrong with the amp. I bought it built from Nik sans tubes, and rechecked the bias etc. The tubes are fine in other amps. The master volume doesn't have much gain until I turn it all the way up. Maybe I have a bad pot. I've tried running the amp at 7 or 8 on the input volume and 5 or 6 on the master as suggested, and it's just not there.
14  Ceriatone / Overtone / OTS clean channel not very loud on: December 21, 2008, 09:06:03 AM
I have a new OTS 50 watt. I'm new to D style amps. At my band practice, the clean channel is not very loud. If I have the master at 12 oclock and the clean vol. at 12:00, or even both at 3 oclock you can barely hear the amp in the band. It's on the rock setting. On the jazz setting is the most anemic thin sound. We play blues and R&B and I never have any of my other Fender amps past 3 or 4, so we're not a loud band. The only way the amp acts normal is if the master is turned all the way up, and the clean vol. at 3 or more. I know that's how master volume amps work, but is this normal for this amp? I read somewhere this just adds distortion to the clean channel. I'm using SED wing C's at 35mv and tungsol reissue preamp tubes. All the tubes are lit up and work fine in other amps. I've looked up pics of other D style amps on stages and most look like the pre and master are between 11:00 and 1 oclock. Am I doing something wrong? Is the amp working right? I haven't even tried to dial in the overdrive channel, but I have the OD trimmer at 10 oclock and the phase inverter trimmer at noon, so I think the amp is set up right.

Pickmaster,
    Thanks.
