3  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: TR CRS vs OTS on: August 04, 2008, 10:45:04 PM
no problems mate cheers for that!

i mean without having heard the two side by side in real life, i cant make a definitive comment.  but i think the consensus is that the TR has a tighter smoothness to it, harmonically too, and just has a crystal clarity when attacking the strings that bring out the highs but without any harshness, if that makes sense...

these sorts of things seem to be things that can be tweaked into a circuit such as the OTS however...i just need to hear and see it done bc i know bugger all about fiddling with amps!!

I just wanted to pass on to you my latest upgrade that has yielded remarkable results with the strat. The best part is you don't have to mod your OTS to make it a Two Rock and you can accomplish this a lot cheaper than buying that TR.

As I have mentioned before, I have settings on my OTS that get a very good fenderish tone with my strat. The first key is to leave the deep switch off and stay out of the "rock" mode. These add that mid-range that makes the strat sound somewhat bloated.  Now, I have just set-up a rack with a TC Electronic G-sharp and a BBE Sonic Maximizer 482i. I bought both new for a total of less than $280 US. They are running through the effects loop.

With the OTS set up at 5 across the board except having the mid and base at about 7, Bright on, Deep off, Jazz on, OD and PAB on, I have a tone that far exceeds may '66 BFSR. The sonic maximizer will give you that "bigger tone,  full bass with superior clarity" that heard in the TR. That is what it is design to do. The guitar actually has a very clean tone with the above settings. I just tried it with my FullDrive 2 to get a little hair on the tone and it was very, very nice.

Check out the BBE Sonic Maximizer.

Sounds nice! any chance you can get some clips up with the above settings??

Im guessing the pic i posted in the "For those who want Two-Rock CR sig sound."  wouldnt help at all?? only give you half an idea Wink
6  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: TR CRS vs OTS on: August 02, 2008, 03:13:50 AM
thats true, two rock claim to be an amp all of their own and not a clone...

in which case, shouldnt we be pushing nik to create a Two-Rock CR sig clone??  Grin Wink

Lots of people on here seem to want to be using their OTS to sound like the dumbles that the Two-Rocks are based on...

I dont know what help this is, or even if its any help at all, but this is a picture of the guts of the CR Sig, might help some people who know do different things to their amp?Huh?

9  Ceriatone / Overtone / OTS Reverb on: August 01, 2008, 02:19:02 PM
Could it happen?

Anyone know if an overtone reverb is in the works? i would email nick but im sure hes got more important questions to answer Tongue  this is more a curiosity thing, because if there is a OTS reverb on the way I will more than likely wait for that...

10  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Questionable, but i might be going for the Overtone on: August 01, 2008, 01:44:00 AM
Haha most definitely not a fanboy haha. Fan yes, but thats a different story. Im also a big fan of SRV's tone so today i actually went on ebay and got a Fender Super Reverb. Used by both Mayer and SRV for some of their tones, i figured it would be a better buy for me and i can save some money (only paid $825 for a brand new one). Im also getting a fulltone OCD, Line 6 DL4, and a Keeley Modded TS808.

Waaaaaatch out!

Super reverbs are awesome! unfortunately I wouldnt be able to use it over 1 volume haha they are loud beasts.....

Im probably the biggest fan of John Mayer's tone that i know of and I'm wondering how good you can hit that tone with this amp. I talked to Nik and he said some of his tones are in there but what do you all think? This will be my first amp that hasn't been something typical like Fender or Mesa or some huge big name like that so I'm being cautious.

Thanks in advance!
-Chris

When talking about John Mayer one needs to be careful, because you dont want to come across as one of those try-hard fan boys that just want to BE HIM...so many kids out there just want all his gear and think that it will make them sound good (not accusing you of that at all!)

but in my opinion, as a blues player, I believe the tone he achieves is simply some of the best going around to my ears...

I would prefer my ceriatone, once i get it, to be voiced as similarly to his two-rocks/dumble ODS as humanly possible....getting info on them is very difficult however, im not too sure what era Dumble ODS he has or how it has been voiced Tongue

but yeah i feel you mate, who wouldnt want to hit this tone:

pickmasters mods seem to come the closest to voicing the OTS in this direction i think...

Hey does anyone know which other dumble clones have the HRM tonestacks??  Im trying to learn the difference tonewise between the standard and HRM

cheers Smiley
13  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: How Fender can the OTS get? on: July 16, 2008, 03:40:34 AM
Hi,

My bright capacitor is just 47pf, it adds just a proper amount of highs.
“Chirpiness” comes probably from 3mm thick Big Stabby pick. I play with a light attack but pick adds chirpiness, same if you use metal coin as a pick.

3mm that is damn thick haha, and would explain it. cheers mate Smiley
14  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: How Fender can the OTS get? on: July 15, 2008, 01:12:43 PM
Hey pickmaster just a quick question, is the bright switch on the amp in those first three clips on your page? or do you just have a really heavy string attack because the amp sounds "chirpy" as the strings are just hit....

that drive + boost clip is the most impressive for me, but are you able to get that without some of the initial "chirpiness" when the strings are hit?? i know i sound vague but i really cant describe what i mean hahaha
15  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: How Fender can the OTS get? on: July 13, 2008, 12:15:49 AM
haha fair enough!
