Its going to go into my modded head cab with my c lator. Ive got some NOS Sylvania 6L6GC STR415s for the power section and NOS jan phillips 12ax7 and NOS RCA and a sovtech for the preamp. Im kinda interested in getting a new cab for it, something diff to the celestion G12-75s ive got now. Ive heard that the two rock 2x12 cab is cool with the eminence speakers. Lookin for some advice please. Thanks guys.

Noticed your eBay add was ended really quickly! Hope you got a good price for the BM. Now it's the waiting game for the new FM eagle Smiley

There are a few different cab makers that make great D-style cab's. Here's a list of cab makers with great prices, some have more options than other as far as covering goes though too (Tolex, Suede, etc.)

Avatar: Great prices, Oval ported D-style cab (called the "Traditional") 1 and 2x12 cabs, only tolex though, they can be had on Ebay cheaper. ($180 to 300)

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=avatar+2x12

Amplified Nation: Taylor over at The Amp Grarage owns Amplified Nation, his cabs are killer and he offers all sorts of options when it comes to exotic coverings (Suede, Buckskin etc.), and port options. He'll do an Oval port, front Theile port, and even a side ported cabinet like a Forte cab. his prices are great and his cabs are a sonic representation of what Dumble offered, including the rare Music man 2 bolt handles Dumble used on his cabs.

http://www.amplifiednation.com/D-Style%20Cabs.htm

V-boutique: Great prices, just tolex covering. Oval ported D-style cab. They sell cabs on Ebay for a decent price $259 for a 2x12.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/V-Boutique-USA-Unloaded-D-Style-2-x-12-Unloaded-Cab-/130679360198?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e6d18cac6

As far as speakers goes there are a bunch of options. these being the best with the #102 Ford amp:

Celestion G12-65w
Two Rock ET-65w
WGS ET 65w
Skumback H-75
Austin Speaker Works KTS-70
Austin Speaker Works Bludotone G1265 variant (only avail through Bludotone, designed with Bludotone to be similar to the G1265)

Make sure to get (2) 8ohm speakers and wire them parallel if you're going to run at 4ohms.

The WGS are the cheapest of them all, the Austin Speaker Works KTS-70 is the most expensive. The Two Rock labeled ET-65 is the same as the WGS with a slightly different frequency response, better in my opinion.  the Skumback sound slightly different, more pwr handling and more efficiant.

The Celestion G1265 is exactly what Robben Ford uses with his Dumble.

They can all be had used on The Gear page or on Ebay for a decent price, depends what your budget is.

Only you can be the judge, preference is always subjective.

Celestion G1265:

If you're in the US, check out Tenguitars as well:

Although this link mentions only head cabs, he also does speaker cabs.  I couldn't be happier with mine - looks and sounds fantastic.

Can we inquire why you sold the bluesmaster?
Its funny cause when I first got the BM I didnt know it was a BM (I got it used). My uneducated (to the diff dumbles) ears could hear Mayer and ,with some tweaking, Carlos etc. BUT............... After spending more time with it (at gigs and at home) I came to realise that this amp is definitely rooted in Blackface territory and wouldnt give me the creamy od tones or the warm cleans I hear in my head (and on CD).

Im much more into Carlton, Ford, Santana and less into Mayer etc. So heres hoping that the non HRM, OTS FM ME will give what im craving, paired with my C Lator I should be closer and can only blame my fingers then.Lol.

Opinions?

Oh and cheers to Boldaslove for his info on cabs and speakers

The info of boldaslove is awesome. The V-boutique cabs look great at an unreal price.

The bluesmaster 100 I have is as you decsribe, mainly more cleanish/bf tones than the regular OTS tones you hear - especially the jazzy ones, Robben Ford, etc..

In final analysis (& despair), & in order to get the tones you are seeking, I relied on an un-orthodox (& now controversial) routing, & that is a boss eq pedal direct in the loop, (or through a buffer if used along with a delay/reverb).
I read your despair and solution in the other thread and decided to start again with the "right" OTS rather than try to "fix" a tonestack that was essentially quite different. Are you happy with your result?

...oh, & you are right: just before discovering my "solution", I had decided with Nik to mod my amp, most probably to FM50ME specs. It's just that the shipping fees would have rocketed to $700 alone, not to mention the mod & parts itself.

So this "calmed" em a good deal....lol

BUT - guess what? Do you know what Nik's next amps he's putting out? That info (that Nik ok-ed that I discuss on this forum) WILL PLEASE A LOT OF PEOPLE!!

And............................................... Come on................................ Dont leave it hanging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another option for cabs is through Hermida Audio.  Same dude who makes the Zendrive.  I have one of this ported 2x12s and it's pretty amazing.  Light but durable.  I think I got it used for like $150, but new they are $239 or so.   Good deal, I say.

Alright man! Lunchbox heads

One Mini OTS & One Mini modded-plexis (yeti, chupa, etc...)

18-20 watters, i guess 6V6 for the OTS & EL84 for the mini-plexis

Don't we need both?

I think pricing would be fair & in line with the lunchbox craze

I always felt my Express was light and small for what it was.
PTP lunchboxes would be great. No need for 6v6s though. I have a very small amp with 4 x 6L6 (40W-ish)

If any of you guys ever dismantled any compact valve radios from the 60s, you'll recall that even complex valve gear can be made small - the size of typical heads was most likely just to match 4x12 back in the day - mostly amp chassis are 75% empty

Just started with pedals a little after a 10 year purist spell, but usually just delay
