Great info Bill, thanks. Now to show my complete lack of the obvious, what is the FET input and what is it's purpose? Would it be possible to drill another hole somewhere for the deep switch and keep the FET input?

I'd love to hear an answer to this also. I sort of think the 50 watt would more than suit my needs.

It would be great to have the three versions in the same room for an hour but such is not the case. The head is definitely spinning a bit but trying to figure it out is half the fun.

Going just off of sound clips I've heard, which have so many variables it makes a side by side comparison unreliable, I would probably choose one of the non HRM models. But if you can tweak the trimmers and get the same sound as the original then what the hey.

Exactly the kind of information I was hoping for. Thanks for the replies. Decisions, decisions... I play some clean country, rockabilly, jump blues, classic rock, and jazzy blues along the lines of Carlton and Ford (or at least attempt to). Cleans are somewhat important but the main interest in the OTS is for the distortion. I use varying degrees of distortion from mild to fairly intense but no metal.

I've been gassing for an overtone special for quite a while. I've been reading the board and listened to all the sound samples (many times) but am still not sure about the differences between the 3 versions. I'm not an electronics guy and never will be so I'm not so much interested in the schematical differences but more the sonic differences.

I like all of the sound samples, especially Marin's, but through small speakers or headphones it's difficult to attribute specific nuances of each clip to the amp, the player, the guitar used, the recording etc...

So.... What are the differences? What is an HRM and how is it different? How is the OTS different from the S&M? I'm a newbie to D style amps, are the above mentioned modeled after different versions of original D amps?

Sorry for all the questions but information on the Ceriatone site doesn't exist, manuals don't exist, and I don't want to get it wrong when I order.

My main guitars are tele's and occasionally I'll play a strat so I would mostly be using single coil pickups though a Les Paul would round out the collection nicely some day. I play a variety of different styles and have amps that fit most of them nicely but I'm trying to zero in on more of the Carlton live distorted blues sound or a derivative that I can call my own. Any answers to all or part of the questions or any other insights or recommendations would be appreciated.

Sorry to post this in the overtone forum as I have a 5E3 but this is where the discussion is taking place. I'm not an electronics guy, wouldn't know one resistor from another if my life depended on it. I had Ceriatone build my amp because I honestly have no desire to do so. I can tell you the quality of the work inside the amp is readily apparent even to a novice.

The real proof is in the sound though and I have never had such a long and glorious honeymoon with a piece of gear as I've had with my Ceriatone 5E3. The sound of this amp is pure magic. It felt quite risky to me to send my money overseas, paying up front, with no guarantee and little recourse should something go wrong. The only thing that pushed me to do it was the many glowing reviews of Nik and the hope of getting the sound I wanted at a price I could afford. Sometimes risks pay off and in this case it paid off in spades.

The 5E3 was my first Ceriatone but it won't be my last. When finances allow (and the wife has enough time to forget about the last purchase) I will be getting an overtone and then something in British territory.

Thanks Nk for doing such a fine job and bringing tone and quality to those of us with jobs, families, and mortgages. I can't justify jeopardizing my kids college education to get a guitar amp. While still not cheap, Nik makes it do-able for me to have world class tone and maintain the other commitments and responsibilites that I have.

Thanks for posting all the clips. Not boring at all. I check here regularly  to see if you've posted more. You have the sound that I hear in my head. Are you doing anything special as far as effects, recording techniques, mods, etc... I have been considering an overtone for quite a while based on your clips. I mostly play a tele.

That should sound huge. I've been running a single celestion blue and a vintage 30 the same way. It's an odd but wonderful mix. Would love to hear your thoughts on the sound with that 15 when you get it all going.

Parallel. If you have an 8 ohm load plugged into both jacks select 4 ohms.

It didn't seem to effect delivery time. I didn't request anything special on the shipping so it was the standard DHL shipping Nik uses. I don't exactly remember but I think the declared value was around $250.00 U.S. dollars and was declared as guitar amp parts or something similar. Apparently DHL paid it and then sent me a bill a few weeks later for the amount they had to pay plus a service charge for paying it. I had no idea about it until I got the bill.

Edited to note that this is in no way a complaint against Nik. I just wasn't aware of it. Never ordered overseas before. The amp is incredible and I'm having a blast playing it.

I ordered a 5E3 prebuilt chassis a couple of months ago and got a bill from DHL for about $20.00 duty plus a $5.00 service charge from DHL. It was definitely a surprise.
