Nik is helping me get it straightened out. Looks like a probable power tube failure fried a screen resistor.

In the mean time I'm rediscovering my Ceriatone 5E3. You know, there is beauty in simplicity also.
2  Ceriatone / Overtone / Troubleshooting help please. on: June 07, 2012, 06:20:32 PM
I'm not an amp tech but I can follow basic instructions. Before I take it to someone thought I'd seek help here first.

I have an FM50 that is about 1.5 years old that blew a fuse. Tried replacing the fuse but it made a loud hum and blew again. Put new tubes in, replaced fuse, and sound is passing and amp is quiet. This is all at low volume so I'm thinking nothing is wrong. Stuck a meter on the tubes to bias and the left tube (looking in from the rear) is at about 37mv. Checked the right tube and nothing. I swapped tube position (left to right) and still whichever tube was on the left checked ok and the one on the right read 0.0.

When the amp is turned on in standby both tubes glow orange where they should on the inside of the tube. When I switch from standby to operate only the left tube glows blue.

Any ideas about what I should look at or check first would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, he has matured a lot. But that's still some mighty fine wanking for any age, much less 15.

I would agree with nobnard on all counts. I like the c'lator for interfacing with my delay but it's definitely not a requirement. It slightly changes the character and I could easily see someone preferring the sound without the c'lator.

I've had my FM50 with c'lator since December. Was hoping to get some clips up but just haven't had time. It's an incredible amp. There are many tones in it. Much more versatile than I imagined. Clean, light crunch, rockabilly, classic rock, blues... just amazing. Took me a while to get my basic settings down. The controls are quite sensitive and interactive so take the time, the reward is great. I pretty much control master volume on the c'lator and adjust the drive knob based on the song. Enjoy!

Congrats and thanks for sharing your build. It's been interesting.

Been watching the UPS updates as my new amp travels half way across the world. Due for delivery 11/25. There are pics of it on the Ceriatone web site. (FM50 head with built in c'lator). Unfortunately, I'll be out of town for the next two weeks and won't get to play it. Oh well, it will make for a good Christmas season when I return home.

13  Ceriatone / Overtone / New OTS FM50 ordered on: November 07, 2010, 02:23:51 PM
Been wanting an OTS for quite a while. I've had a lot of amps and modelers through the years but nothing has brought me the satisfaction that my Ceriatone 5E3 has. Going on three years and the honeymoon is still on. I think an OTS would compliment it nicely. Finally took the plunge a couple weeks ago and ordered what I think is the first OTS Ford Mustang 50. It will be in a head cab with a c-lator built into the cab.

As usual, Nik has been great to deal with. Thanks to all here who have posted their thoughts, experiments, and sound clips. I've poured over them many times in the last couple years, and in the end, that is all there is to go on when purchasing one of these amps. When I get mine, and spend some time with it, I'll try to do the same.

Awesome work! I'd love to have the tweed logo for my 5E3.
