1  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: HRM Bluesmaster setup advice on: July 15, 2013, 12:15:47 PM
Ok, So I have owned the HRM BM 100W for almost a year now. Played many gigs with it (indoor and outdoor). I use two cabs with it (2x12 with Webers) and (4x10 with Webers). This amp is really an amazing creature. I play in a cover band (70s rock and blues) and I use a strat and a les paul for gigs.

The strat with the clean amp settings is really a fantastic sound (with PAB on). Roll the guitar volume down for some real nice chime, the string clarity is amazing with this amp. Push the guitar volume a little higher for some growl. Also use fulltone OCD and FDII pedals with the streat thru the clean amp and get some real nice tones as well. Could not be happier. Use a WET reverb pedal as well in the effects loop.

The les paul with the OD channel engaged has taken much more time to dial in (after breaking in the amp). But is well worth the effort. Tube swaps were needed to get where I wanted to be. The bloom and the overdive dynamics are so very very nice and controllable. Again, guitar volume control plays a role here. The LP when you roll down the volume is a great rythm sound, full and clear with great string separation. Crank the guitar to 9-10 and the fun really starts for solos. Also I engage the PAB for solos, always. A few songs I play the LP thru the clean channel and use the fulltone OCD or Plimsoul for some different overdrive sounds. This takes good pedals very well in the clean channel and can find some wonderful sustain and bloom thru it as well.

Indoors I set it to 50W, outdoors always 100W.

This is truly a keeper amplifier. With the right tubes, speakers and guitars its amazing and I get alot of compliments on the tones. Been wondering if I should put Mercury Mag transformers in this, but that's much farther down the road.

Great to hear that the BM has worked well for you! Keep rockin Smiley

Cheers guys,

Yeah, had my views on an EV tuned oval port OS cab from the speaker factory in brissy, or have a thiele made here locally for the same price. Really sussing out which is the better option.

Port city cabs are hard to come by in AUS, but I hear that they're great sounding

Cheers Hurts,

Yeah if I was going for a 2x12, the oval back would def me the weapon of choice. Actually, the plan is to get one later this year paired with Celestion heritage G1265s... And guess who influenced that decision Smiley

Looking at 1x12 cabs at this stage though
4  Ceriatone / Overtone / 1x12 cab choice - Thiele vs. oval port on: May 13, 2013, 01:38:00 PM
Hi Folks,

Just checking in to see if anyone has had direct experience with both a thiele and oval port back 1x12 cab?

The intention is to hang onto my EV (which I love) and have swap it into either the above mentioned cab. While Nik's 1x12 is doing me fine, I'd like to try something different.

What tonal differences between the cabs is there?

Understand from reading the forums that Thiele's can be one directional while the oval port has a better spread of sound. Anyone have issues with people not hearing thiele's standing on the side in a band environment?

Any input would be appreciated!

I concur with going to the dumble type amp and add to the OD with a pedal to get bonnamassa tones. I achieve this buy running both a TIM and OD on my two rock and rolling down on the tone of my bridge PUP

Rock on wbfree! 71 and still rocking, good on you mate

Yep, d clones are more complex than the usual out there. Does pay off to send it to someone experienced and does what you want, not what they want...., like most hair dressers but that's another story

I bought a two rock topaz out of curiosity more than anything. Gone to the dark side!

Not taking anything away from the BM, but the TR was more what I was after ....

Hi Dave and welcome to the forum!

I've actually got another amp now so i cant provide the clips, but the BM was an excellent amp for those tones your searching for.

In my experience with the BM, if boosted cleans (PAB on clean channel) and slight break up (pushed input gain on clean or light OD in OD channel) is what your after, the BM excells in this with a strat. Perhaps some other BM owners can help provide a clip, but there mcinku's clips in youtube is a very good representation of what it sounds like with single coils.

Keep in mind that the BM responds VERY well with tube changes as described in this thread and speaker choice is also key. If i had to do it again, I would of selected a celestion gold instead of an EV. EV works well with my amp now and non HRM d clones opposed to celestion golds and g1365s.

All the best and good luck! Yell out if you have any questions as the folks here are super helpful!

Im on the same boat as you also, as I generally prefer a dark sounding OD with not much highs but bright and chimey clean channel. I find that with the BM there is a little too much highs coming through, even with the HRM tonestack engaged and the internal treble trimmers set low. Still an awesome sounding OD thats is d-stylish but not quite in that Calton/Ford camp
11  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: so ive got a OTS FM ME with NOS tubes and I bought a TR gainmaster.............. on: November 11, 2012, 10:25:44 AM
I've actually been put in a situation to make a purchase on a two rock onyx for cheap vs. a modded FM ME built by Nik.... The TW is almost twice the amount so it's a tricky one for me....

There is a few of us Aussies on the forum!

Ah bugger, no worries

Keen to get your thoughts on the mod because I'm thinking of doing the same but wanted to see what your impression of it was.

Sure am Smiley located in Melbourne!

Hey stratultra the mods are being done later this week. and yes im running a clator. Ive neber been totally happy with the cleans from the FM ME, not glassy fendery enough for me, a little too much growl in them so hopefully this will sort that out.

Hey hurtwood,

Jut checking in to see If you've had the Amp back with the mods. How did it go?
14  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Considering a treble bleed on the OD of a FM50ME on: November 09, 2012, 11:54:35 PM
I think for me, the rotary switch on the V2,2 as per pickmasters mod should do the trick for me, but depending how it goes, this mod is another way around it

Good luck!
15  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Considering a treble bleed on the OD of a FM50ME on: November 08, 2012, 12:09:52 PM
Hey all,

I've been enjoying my FM50ME since January, and the rig has gradually gotten darker and smoother as it had broken in.  Though my LP sounds really good through it, it can be a bit too dark at times.  I usually run it with the bright maxxed and the treble a little higher than the mid and lows, and with the C-lator brights off.  Either bright switch on the C-lator seems to open up the cleans, so I then turn off the amp bright caps/switch. I really like the clean channel tone with either C-lator bright switch on, but the OD channel sounds horrible with one on.  I wondered if a treble bleed on the OD channel would solve that, or would it really just polish a turd?

Anybody proven or disproven this mod?

Hey Kev,

Maybe you try a bright cap value on the bright switch ie a 120pf. If it negatively affects the tone on the OD, you can try this mod on amp garage which auto turns off the bright when engaging the OD channel

http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19454

I'm contemplating this mod also
