this will in some ways be a living document...... your input once released will make it really superb.

this is the difference between buying a Ceriatone vs one of the main brands, we deal with the owner and we also have direct input

this community of people sharing their knowledge and experience is what makes Ceriatone special (and of course the amps are very special as well).

i am working on some basic setting at the monent upon which to build the sounds, afterwhich i will devote a section of using the effects loop and the effects loop buffer

then a technical section with layouts, and schematics

i did some more work on it last night, adding stuff Nik suggested
it will still be a week or so.....and i want to get Nik's ok on it too.

bear in mind... the settings will vary as well depending on the guitar you use with it...the amp reacts vastly different to different types of pickups.

the Kleinulator also affects the tone as well; even without effects units plugged into it

i have seen many people looking for SRV sounds through this forum

i threw this together quickly and its a first take, using a generic backing track from the web and using a Tascam GTR1 recording the two tracks live. very crude but it conveys the sound and feel i was going for.

the guitar is my home made jimi style strat wit reverse neck and reversed pickups a-la lefty strat played right handed. i used the middle pickup throughout scuttle buttin and neck in hideaway.

reverb was using my GNX4 with Klein in the loop. hall reverb on and no other effects

i am happy to share my settings with those interested

i have a 50W HRM with G1265 speaker, semi closed back, Mullard in V1, JJ in V2, and EH in V3, JJ's for V4 and V5

I think it sounds superb really. This and mr. Fabulous' clip are one of the very best I've heard of these amps... keep them coming!

what is involved in changeover to EL-34?

i beleive it may just be bias adjustment... am i right?

i have wide variety of gigs and music to be played through it.... from santana....bad company....acdc.....ZZtop and then all the way down to smooth mellow blues for other gigs.....the amp has the ability to cover it, and believeme  the the 50W version has plenty of power to spare.

its a matter of knowing the animal and knowing how to dial up your sounds and there are so many good ones AND they are usable at any volume (this is the best thing i like about this amp)

i have been using the hrm for quite a while now.......it should be fine for just about anything you throw at it......you just have to learn to tweak the thing

i have the schematic of the HRM and the V2 section is definitely not cathode follower. so there would be no problem using whetever tuve suits your ears in that position

i am curently writing a manual for the HRM. i offered this to nik so that he can focus on doing what he does best, building great amps for all of us. the first draft has already been commented on by nik and after a few more revisions, i will post it for all and sundry. i will include a technical section with,schematics,  tables of correct voltages and biasing instructions as well.

i also plan to include some settings as well as the basis for getting certain tones etc.

anyway, Today I received the mullard 12ax7's

They are broad spectrum and aggressive.

After swapping all combinations of valves i found the following:

Mullard for V1: just drives the preamp harder. Drives the clean channel to break up. Its aggressive sound is perfect to drive V2 stage.
JJ for V2: it’s the best for V2 as its warmth and midrange is better for the OD
Mullard or EH for V3: mullard better for rock or more edgy blues, its got more output and drives the output tubes harder the overall tone is more agressive. EH gives a sweeter tone in general, and is probably better for blues or jazz (a little tamer)

Mullard definitely has a much higher gain (gm) as they run hotter than the EH and the JJ.

I'll provide an update once I have run these in for a while in this config.


i wonder if anyone else has used these new reissue mullards....?

after some more experimentation i have found the following:

clarity in the amp is dependent in V1 and v3
overdrive tone is dependent on V2 (of course)

jj's in V1 and V3 (one or both) sound dark and you lose a lot of top end, however the gain is higher

so far i have found EH's sound better in V1 and V3 with jj for V2

this gives enough gain and beef whilst the other 2 take care of passing the signal transparently

i'll provide an update when i get my mullards

i have a OTS HRM 50W which is very versatile. great for many different tones... the clean channel is kinda like a twin or a priceton.... very clean and sparkly... great for tele's. the overdrive channel is where it gets intersting....i have been able to get so many different tones for the various styles of blues out there... SRV with a strat, Freddie king tones with 335. the amp responds to your playing and your touch so its up to you to dialup and adapt your playing to achieve what you want. the amp will do it. in addition, i have also used it for slide and its a perfect amp for singing slide playing.

i dont think you can go wrong with any of the OTS models.... have a listen to the clips and see what people have been playing with the various models.

my experience is that the higher the power the speaker the more warm and ounded it sounds... probably due to the extra mass in the voice coil. i reckon its better to match the speaker the wattage of the amp you are using so you dont do so at the expense if the highs.


DR Ika, i agree with you on Fanes... i have a 70's AC30 with specially made fanes (made for vox)...they have an excellent tone and dont lose their clarity when turned up. mmaybe a little more agressive sounding than celestions, but excellent for sound projection at high volumes.
