The HT fuse is frequently power tubes or rectifier problems. It could just be a coincidence that you changed rectos.......but you might want to start there when you get new fuses. Good Luck

Yes, it will "work", but I do not know how close it is to what Marshall put in the original 2550 (is that what a Jubilee is?) Transformers seem so simple, but they are a pretty complex piece of equipment, with a lot of variables. Maybe get on the Marshall forum and see what those guys have to say about an OT for your amp. Or, like I say, email some of those tranny winders and see if they make a real 2550 transformer Good Luck

Hey Peter - Probably a good place for you to start would be with an email to these guys. I would send them a brief email about what amp you bought, the type of music you play, and a little about yourself as far as skill level, do you gig, do you record, etc. Not a short story, but just some info to give them an idea of your needs. It sounds like you would be good with a drop in replacement from Hammond or MC. But, whatever...... Do not hesitate to ask them questions. Just because their web-sight does not list a certain tranny does not mean they do not have one. You get the gist......... Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Blowing fuses...HELP

I am not familiar with these amps, but it all kind of applies. Just a process of elimination... Pull the power tubes, does the fuse blow? If it does, you need to work your way through the bias and power supply. If you disconnect the secondaries from the PT (make sure the leads are safed off) and you are still blowing fuses......you need a new PT. Good Luck

could someone writeme down the component list for building this amp excuse my poor english.
Can you read the layout? The parts are all right there. I do not think Nik offers a Bill Of Materials (BOM). If you are having a hard time, send me an E-Mail or PM and I will write it for you....... Good Luck

I gotta say....I'm impressed. It is not cat biased AND it does not use EL84's, that is kind of a breath of fresh air IMO. A real nice looking amp, all the way around. It looks like a Hammond choke.... Who made the PT and OT...? Thank You

American Style / BF Champ, Vibro Champ / Re: Hi! I've got a number of questions on Ceriatone's Champs..
|
on: September 28, 2010, 06:42:47 PM

Generally speaking, there were only two champs, the "Tweed" and the BF/SF Champ/Vibro Champs. I am not real familiar with Nik's Ultra. Looks like it removes the tone stack from the equation, which would make it sound more like a Tweed (5f1) Champ. There will be some component value differences, but the tone stack (or lack of) would be the biggest difference between the Tweed and BF Champs. If you email Nik he can give you better details than I can.... Good Luck

Are you guys talking about the primary Z for the OT of this amp? It would be about 3.4k. Are you guys looking at OT's for a Stray Cat build?

Hey James - You get a lot of players through your studio. Some of them must be "cork sniffers". Tell them you have a Dave Friedman prototype, and you want to get their opinion on how it sounds. Plug them into the badge-less Ceriatone and let them play it for a while. It would be interesting just to see what kind of feed back you get...... Good Luck

British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / Re: Can you run 6550's in a 1987?
|
on: September 25, 2010, 11:23:31 PM

Yeah.....you can, but it probably will not bias correctly. I believe the bias splitters will be 150k instead of 220k, and you may have to change the the sweep resistor an the bias range resistor in the negative bias circuit. Might make it easier for you (because I am not 100% sure) if you look at a Marshall schematic that runs 6550. Good Luck

British Style / 18 Watt / Re: Installing EF86 in an old Marshall combo

Thanks for the responses y'all (and forgive my impatience ) I think you're right, hired hand, I thought there might be a way to invert the chassis (so the tubes hand upside down, like a peavey classic 30), but now I see that all those kind of amps have top mounted controls. My valvestate has the controls mounted on the front (same direction as the speaker faces) and there's definitely not enough clearance for the transformers and tubes. I think I'm just going to build this up as a head and buy a 2x12 cab to go with it. There are plenty of good used cabs floating around Austin. Thanks again - any suggestions for what I should do with the combo? Yeah..... I think that would be the smart way to go. Put it in a head box, and then versatility is the word of the day. Like you said, there are always plenty of new/used speaker cabs to choose from. You can choose between 10's, 12's and all different offerings from Eminence and WGS..... Sell the combo or save it for a future project, or maybe even trade bait for something else. Good Luck
