switch the output transformer leads. Reverse them and it should solve the problem

Youre amp doesnt have PAB? Thats what it's for Grin
78  Custom amp building, Prototypes and other amps / Discussion / Re: need help designing a 4x12 bass cab on: July 21, 2010, 03:41:28 PM
Im going to advise against a 4x12 not only b/c of the size but also the 4x12 is actually the worse speaker design. The only reason it exsists is because in the 60's Jim Marshall made 100 watt amps but only had 25w speakers. The 4x12 design has a muddy bass and tends to beam treble so you get in your face peircing treble in front of the amp but theres a drastic drop off if you move to the side.

Someone on another forum was claiming that he got more bass from a ported 2x12 than a 4x12 with the same speakers. if one 2x12 isnt enough you could build two and you'd wind up with much better bass response since all 4 of the speakers will be "on the floor" the 2 top speakrs in a 4x12 design would be trying to push the bass through the air which does not travel far. Bass likes walls and floors to travel through thats why you never see subwoofers off the ground.

Hi Rich,

A lot of folk wrote burn-in off as snake oil and voodoo.  I'm not one of them.

From what I've heard, caps are the main component that burn-in.  I could be wrong, but that's my understanding.  What I do know, is that the amp definitely has a different feel after it's been on for upwards of 3 full days.  I'd say it's not as stiff and the bloom is more pronounced.  That said, it may be subjective.

Stephen

+1 but not only are the caps burning in but the tubes, transformers, and resistors also play parts in the burning in. IMO anyone who puts burning in the same category as "snake oil" is stubborn. There IS a noticable difference in not only tone but also feel.

Speakers also require break in but that is a different story with the cones
81  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: HRM Bluesmaster Schematic anyone? on: May 30, 2010, 02:03:35 PM
Nik claims that if youre not skilled enough to build the amp with the layout then you should probably try an easier kit.

Yes Schematics are great for following the circuit more easily but when building an amp it's easier with a layout because you can see exactly where everything should go on the board and chassis etc. It's also easier to share mods when they are on the layout
82  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: "Flubby" Bass on OD channel - 100w Bluesmaster on: May 29, 2010, 04:21:27 PM
i think you should try el34's or KT77's before you go into modding
83  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: HRM Bluesmaster Schematic anyone? on: May 26, 2010, 05:05:45 PM
If your guy can't do mods with that amazingly complete layout you should find someone else. Anyone who's worked on amps can easily see anything they need on the layout.

In fact im sure the tech asked for the schematics because he didnt know the layout was available. Nik does not use schematics so if you want one youre going to need to draw one. Which IMO is pointless because layouts show the actual amp in detail which makes modding much easier
84  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: VOTE NOW!! Best Stock Overtone for Cleans? on: May 22, 2010, 03:45:38 PM
IMO the bluesmaster sounds more "dry" and "lifeless" to my ear. Also i strongly dislike 90% of fenders because they are too scooped. The best cleans ive heard came from a Hiwatt, 74 Marshall JMP, and Fender Bassman (59) and the OTS (in no particular order)
85  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: VOTE NOW!! Best Stock Overtone for Cleans? on: May 21, 2010, 09:14:03 PM
if you wanted a clean only amp, why are you going for an OTS?  Huh?

as far as i know, they're known for their lead channel, and i read a lot about people being disatisfied with the cleans. why not get a fender twin?!  Grin

the cleans are very nice IMO. But yes you are right. Why would you buy it as a clean amp with the ever so important OD channel which is the magic of this amp.

If you want nice cleans get a twin or something. If you want nice cleans and awesome Overdrive get an OTS
86  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Noise and Loss of Volume from the C-Lator on: May 21, 2010, 06:25:20 PM
have you tried a different tube yet?
87  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: VOTE NOW!! Best Stock Overtone for Cleans? on: May 20, 2010, 03:39:26 PM
For me it's skyline type tonestack sounds awesome for clean... that's OTS and OTS HRM.

 Wink

+1 im a bigger fan of the skyliner stack in the OTS

89  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Noise and Loss of Volume from the C-Lator on: May 15, 2010, 07:14:45 PM
try the power supply in different places there might be some sort of ground loop. Also if theres any slider light switches in your house keep them off they make a TON of noise, especially with those "energy saver" flourecent lights
90  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Noise and Loss of Volume from the C-Lator on: May 15, 2010, 05:00:56 PM
the unit is meant to be always on. Thats why you get no volume when your turn it off because well, youre turning it off. It takes about 6 second because of the tube "cool down"
also if your using the C lator and K lator at the same time, DONT. this could easily be the source of your noise.

If youre still getting noise it is likely a bad tube in the Clator.
