On this diagram PAB is disconnected. For my amp I’m using more flexible boost system. I’m finishing my amps mod layout in couple of days and hope to publish it here.
Best wishes Doc.
Thanks for that. Will give it a try, though I was thinking more along the lines of changing the value of the mid cap and possibly the resistor prior to the mid cap (I think there is a proper name for this but I can't remember . Really showing my ignorance now!). Playing around with the Duncan Amps Tone Stack Calculator by changing these two values its seems you can shift the mid scoop point more towards the bass end and accentuate it aswell. Looking forward to seeing your mods, since your amp clips do sound very good indeed. Thanks Hywel Harris

You might try a lower gain tube in V2, that's what I've done & I'm really enjoying the tone. I think I have a NOS JAN 12AY7 in there, or a 12AT7. Some might say that the amp sounds best with 12AX7's, as that's what HAD put in his builds, but tone is in the ear of the beholder, and its easy to change back if its not for you. Good luck.
5751 is a good compromise I think. Tried an AT7 and it lowered the gain too much for me.

Are there any talented experts out there who could advise on how to dispense with the JAzz/Rock switch (I only ever use the Rock setting) and turn it into a Dumble/AB763 mid switch? ie scooping out the mids to make it more like the classic Fender EQ?.
TIA

I usually set my volume and gain to 4 with my Tele and Strat. With humbuckers I need to turn the volume down to 3. I also need to switch the bright off and turn the treble down a tad when changing to H/B's (Fralins)

I'll second that. Mine is getting brighter and smoother at the same time! It is really developing some nice dynamics now, and I was disappointed when I first heard mine.
A few things then:-
Burn it in well
Read this forum as re speakers. You will hear a huge difference when you play it thro' some nice speakers. I tried it thro a cheap MArshall 2x12 cab and it sounded SH*****TTTT.
Turn it UP
Then come back and tell us what you think of it. I'd guarantee you'll have a different opinion.

I reckon its as close to Marshall thro a Fender that i've tried yet. I keep the pedal gain very low with not much treble and it gives a nice partial beakup on the OTS clean channel. Not so good on the OD channel. I really wanted the BB+ as that has a tone stack, and based on my positive experience with the BB I will be looking for one of those soon.
What I'm aiming for is (and bear in mind I play in a covers band and need a wide variety of tone from Koss to Costello!) to get pedals to give me the tone I want, only over the clean channel, then I can have a slightly higher gain on the OD (currently a 5751 in V2) for a D*ish lead tone. I'm not particularly interested in the tone of a pedal over the OD channel.

Well, I got one today. Its just what I'm after, a little bit of Marshall crunch when added to the clean channel of the OTS, way better than the Crowther Hot Cake someone I know recommended. I've just put a Red Snapper in front of it, set for very mild O/D and that combo works a treat.
Will get to try it a rehearsal next week so I'l report back when I've had the chance to wind it up a bit, but so far I'm very impressed.

I hate to say it, but I think anyone who has that information already would probably be building their own SSS clone!!
I would love to see a Two Rock flavoured Ceriatone amp though, maybe a single channel, clean only....reverb would be the icing on the cake...you could take some inspiration from the Fender AB763 circuits in the blackface era amps...
Nah, we need the OD channel aswell

A classic- I wish I knew how to do tolex. Nice work! Cinstan
Its not that difficult. You just need a hot air gun (paint stripper type, ideally with a temp control) and a few sharp scalpel blades. I use PVA glue which is much more forgiving than contact adhesive. The OTS head is quite straight forward, the most difficult but is the front top edge with the cut out, but if you make a head shell with a very shallow cut out its much easier. Nest time I do one (I'll be doing a 2x12 cab in a couple of months or so) I'll try and organise someone to take some photos while I'm doing it, unfortunately I couldn't take them myself since your hands get covered in glue!.

I do like the sound without the reduction and the touch and tone are remarkable. Thats all you need to know! If you like it then its good!

from Nik "We do not use the normal 1/2 power switch holes with the LED. The 1/2 power that we do is the pentode/triode mode."
In my experience of pentode/triode switching the tone suffers somewhat in triode mode.

Any idea how he's dropping the the power then? Do you have a layout for yours?

I also like the fact that I ordered mine with a 1/2 output switch that gives me awesome low volume distortion. Presumably that a 100watter with a half power switch?
