63  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: LXP-1: D'lator needed? on: January 18, 2011, 12:42:22 AM
Hi Thilo
No not really, you can get by without it.

In the early days of having my amp I ran a Visual Sounds H2O through the loop without a D'Lator, it sounded OK.

But a D'Lator does add more Dumble'ish tone to the amp and the effects have more of a 3D Quality / Depth to the sound, it's worth getting one just for that.

Cheers
Brian

Hi Erwin

65  Ceriatone / Overtone / Outbid with 2 seconds to go on: January 04, 2011, 01:01:58 AM
Yesterday I was outbid for 2 EVM 12L OEM speakers on EvilBay.

I was looking good with 2 seconds to go as the only bidder and was pipped at the post.

They were going for $175 for the pair and my max bid was $220, they went for $222.50.

I really wanted them as they are hard to find in Australia and even if you can find one new here they want $510 each.

Sh..t! you’ve just reminded it to me mate! Indeed I’m back. Smiley

An' the dust of the Grand Wazoo  :Smiley
You might not believe this, little circuit, but it'll cure your harsh tone too! Cool

I hope circuit is self explanatory and easy.

But don’t forget – my amps are NON HRM !!! It will still work but do you need it when you already have HRM trimmers?
For more “bloom” try to replace your 150k slope resistor with 68k.
Good luck.  Tongue  Grin

Thats also what I need for the clean channel for my Stray Cat as well.
Thanks for the share Pickmaster Smiley

Sorry for all you European folk, but I spent Christmas day in the swimming pool .

69  Muchless / Stray Cat 30 / Re: 5 way tone selector for the clean channel on: December 23, 2010, 12:51:45 AM
Hi Nik
I would like to see a 5 way tone selector mode as well for the clean channel, maybe put it on the back of the amp as a set and forget.

I find it too bright and sterile for Strats. Even on the neck pickup with the tone on about 5 I still have to dial the brilliance knob almost off, about the only thing I could see it useful for is 70's funk.

The gain channel on the other hand, don't change a thing  Grin (except for maybe an FX loop) This channel loves Strats.

The best song I can think of to describe this channel with a Strat neck pickup is "Lights" by Journey, wind the guitar volume back to about 6 or 7 you get great bluesy tone and up on 10 for the solo.
Wack a Univibe in the front end and ride the volume and Robin Trower Bridge of Sighs tones are there too.
70  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: New OTS 50W on: December 22, 2010, 11:58:31 PM
I play mostly Strats through mine and I set my volume around 7 and my master at 2-3 and my volume is around 5 for a Les Paul.

Your v1 tube must be faulty if you are getting too much breakup with your vol set on 3 with a Strat.

I have had mine for about 1 1/2 years and I still reckon it sounds the best after it has been switched on for an hour or so, before that it still sounds a bit muddy. But a burn in period is a must for these amps, I left mine on for 2 days and it made a huge difference.

As for tubes. Tung Sol's seem to one of the popular choices (haven't tried them personally but they're on the shopping list) but I have tried a old Mullard in V1 once (it was in an old Marshall Plexi a friend of mine found at the recycling depot), loved it, smooooooth everything. That would be my tube of choice if you could find one and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

I do find this amp easier to dial in a good sound with humbucker guitars than single coil's but once you find that sweet spot it sounds good with anything.

71  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Does the Smartulator need a pedal in the loop? on: October 29, 2010, 11:41:50 PM
Hi
No you dont have to run any pedals if you dont want and you don't need any patch cables between send & return.
By itself it smooths the ots out, well worth getting it really adds to the tonal character of an amp.

I'd advise then to ask for a refund and spend their money with Bludo.

Oh yes!

74  Website, Store / General / Re: I want to order but..... on: October 15, 2010, 02:45:13 AM
Hi All,

I'm interested in ordering a 2550 kit shipped to the US..

How is the ordering handled? Promptly? What would shipping be? And if I needed parts how hard would they be to get?

And how is the support? I'm a little hesitant to order things from other countries...

I have bought 3 things (1 preassembled amp and 2 kits) from Nik so far, I have no complaints and plenty of praise of Ceriatone products, quality of parts and personal service.
Most of the kits (Marshall & Fender Clones) are very close to the original amps, so if you need parts or want to mod i.e. Trannies etc... replacements are easy to find and so is servicing.
Depending on the popularity of the kit it can take from a few days to weeks, but you will get it a few days after it being shipped.
75  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: How do you use your OTS? on: October 11, 2010, 11:47:41 AM
In the front of my amp I have Boss TU2 Tuner into T-Rex Spin Doctor (Most of the time in bypass, but it adds really nice boost) the into the amp.
FX Loop into a C_Lator the into TC Electronics G Major and I switch the amp channels by midi and have a Rocktron Midimate on my pedal board.
Speakers are WGS 65's in a Marshall 4 x 12 cab running at 4 ohms.

I haven't tried it yet but coming soon, I also have a Stray Cat 30 and a Morley Triple switcher and running the 2 heads into either side of the Marshall cab 8 ohm inputs

WARNING: Nik doesn't tell people this but building amps is addictive
