Please could someone just confirm something for me; If you used a TC Nova Reverb in the loop of an OTS you DON'T need to use a Kleinulator, is that right?
Yes I'm a Ceriatone whore A lot of amps for fair amount of money... and not to mention that I like building amps, so Ceriatoe is definitely the way to go for me. Now, if Nik would only stop putting new amps out, so I could somehow stay away.
Thanks for your compliment... it means a lot to me... especially when it's coming from a guitar player.
Please do post some clips... I'm always interested in that.
I just received my Champ Ultra kit and am embarking on my first build. Are there any modifications required to use 6L6s or can they just be plugged in to the existing circuit? Thanks guys. It is really good to know you will be here to talk with after my first near fatal electrocution.
I played like 6 different Ceriatone D-style amps, S&M, OTS, HRM, BM-HRM and harsh is not the word which I would use to describe the OD ch. I used G12-65 for all those amps and the tubes used were mainly JJ and Tung-Sols (nothing special). So if your OTS sounds harsh, I would check two things. First check your plate voltages... they should be close to 200V (V1 and V2). If your voltages are much higher than that, the amp could sound harsh. If all that checks out, than go for G12-65 speakers. Marin and Sami are both using G12-65.... this speaker plays big part in the final tone.
Unfortunately I don't own a JM strat (I sure would love to )... my friend does. He came in, to check the amp and he brought the start along.
Men, next time I'll ask my friend if he can come (with the strat) and he'll do the playing (he's a much better player anyhow) and I could focus on the recording. ...and we could use tele, 339, strat (more than one), hollowbody, modern Seymour Duncan HB axe
I will not comment the Dumble vid ... but man I wish I could be in that room...
The second vid is awesome... Tony you're an awesome player and the tone is awesome as well. What did you have in loop? or in from of amp
I have another question for you... On that NY amp show you've seen/heard (probably tried) most of the D style amps in existence, from different builders. How does OTS compare too all that?
Sorry 'cause I didn't do the strat clips... I don't even know why I went for my 339... perhaps next clips I'll do, will be strat. I did play my strat through that amp (and John Mayer start as well) and I really don't get all the negativity with D style amps and strats. To me it sounds great.
BTW have you seen this one... Bluesmaster D'lite & strat
That clip was "the clip", why I decided to go for BM-HRM... and I'm glad I did.
Regarding the OD smooth thing... I really need to play with my trimmers. My OD tone is far from perfect, I have been told, that reducing mids (with HRM), will make my OD tone smoother. Man I only wish, I could have more time... these days I'm overwhelmed with everything. I didn't even fired any of my amps since that recording session.
My room is a very dark sounding one, that's fact no 1... I usually use deep switch at home (which will make lo end tighter) but I didn't want to use it, 'cause standard OTS does not have one. On top of that, my Fender style cab has a big baffle board and it's an open back... all this will make things even darker. I do have a rear baffle, so I could transform this cab from open to closed back but I didn't think of that at the time. Now that I know how this amp sounds like recorded in my room, I think next time I could improve on that for better clips.
BTW... OTS is loaded with TungSols and BM-HRM has JJ tubes all over. Just in case anybody wants to know.
Thanks man, nothing special... I'm taking my kids and wife to this thermal park. The good thing is, that this spa is in nice historical town, so a lot of cool places to visit.
