46  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Wiring the OT on: April 20, 2008, 01:08:04 PM
I have brown on V4 and blue on V5 in my working chassis.
(V4 is next to PI)

Opposite of my layout, that gave me feedback like crazy.
So in my case the photo's were correct, not the layout.
47  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: What mods or tweaks would you suggest for the Overtone? on: April 20, 2008, 09:51:58 AM
OK,

- Bright cap was 270pF but regular Fender values are about 100p-120pF.
Less bright, but more usefull I have it on now.

- Snubbercaps indeed both on V2, to roll off the highs in OD.
Clean was great but OD was harsh, now there is more tonal balance.

- PreOD 150k to 220k, I read about that one, it smoothed the OD.

- Why place a filter on an Effectsloop? So never installed that one.
And that gave me a 220k resistor to replace the PreOD 150k.

- 150k to 300k pre Ratio pot, now I can turn the ratio pot a little higher
Clean Volume is on 6 and Ratio was on 1- before the mod, now 6 & 2.

- Mid cap, the mid pot became more effective, I like it better with my guitar.

I studied electronics but all of my theory has faded over the years.
What I did was search for possible mods and looked what others tried
to achieve.
Then I copied it...  Embarrassed

This depends on a lot of things.
What guitar & pickups?
What speakervabinet & speaker(s)?
What sort of music do you like?

All these things determine what mods or tweaks you need to apply.

I use a Fender strat with singlecoils, a 1x12" cabinet with a C12K en I like
Country, Rock, Blues & Jazz.
The stock Overtone was to bright so I went from there.
Then Clean was great but OD to harsh.
Then Clean & OD were great but with PAB engaged OD to harsh.
Now it seems it's where I like it the best.

Mods:
- Bright cap from 270pF to 100pF.
- Snubber caps from 270pF to 330p to 270p+330p parallel.
- PreOD resistor from 150k to 220k.
- Removed Filter from Effectsloop (R+C).
- Resistor before the Ratio pot from 150k to 300k.
- Mid cap from 0,01uF to 0,047uF.

On the pot side, keep everything as short as possible and wire them as shown.
On the otherside, use shrincktube and keep everything as short as possible.

You don't want to connect both sides of the shield to ground (groundloop hum)
If you don't use shielded cable or leave the leads to long, then you'll pickup noise & hum.

It's basically the bottem side of my Bogner Shiva 1x12" combo.
Dont' have the measurements any more.
But aprox: 62 cm wide, 35 cm high and 30 cm deep.
Ports are 7 cm in diameter.
51  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: couple of questions on: April 19, 2008, 04:49:01 PM
Those connections are Shielded Cables.
They are connected to ground on one side as close as possible to the inner core.
On the other side leave the shield in tack as far as possible and seal with shrinktube
so just a little core sticks out to solder in place.

Build the cab myself, it has a Jensen C12K speaker in there with two ports on the front side
of the baffle.

I play a Fender Eric Johnson strat with Bareknuckles Apache pickups.
The Overtone gives me a great Clean sound but the OD was to bright.
So I did some mods to the Overtone to get more balance in the sound.

Mods:
- Bright cap from 270pF to 100pF.
- Snubber caps from 270pF to 270p+330p parallel on V2a & V2b.
- PreOD resistor from 150k to 220k.
- Removed Filter on Effectsloop (R+C).
- Resistor before the Ratio pot from 150k to 300k.
- Mid cap from 0,01uF to 0,047uF.

Now I can play Clean with bright switch on and still use the OD.
And with PAB it still sounds great without getting harsh on OD.

Hello Steven,

I'm not doing anything on the housing anymore.
Took to much time, now I just want to play the Overtone.
Maybe in an couple of months I can find the will to redo
the housing with Blue Tolex.

I saw that you ordered as well, and bought a cabinet with two 12H65's.
Did you find someone to build the Klein-ulator?
I have received all the parts today so that is my next  project.
Not that the old Intellifex needs it, but for possible other effects.

I have build the Overtone Special kit #2 and made the cabinet and head from scratch.
Not great I'm afraid, cabinet & head are not what I hoped to be in the looks department.
But it sure does sound very good!

Here is a picture of my buss-bar, I used the lugs on the potmeters to hold it in place.
I assembled it on the outside for easy access, then just mounted it inside.

58  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Speaker choice on: April 17, 2008, 09:24:40 PM
I have a Jensen C12K that came out of my old Fender DRRI.
Mounted it in a homemade cabinet and it sounds great at low
volumes.
Couldn't test at a higher volume because it was late in the evening.

59  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Using fx/ effect loop on: April 17, 2008, 09:20:35 PM
I just bought an old Rocktron intellifex and it sounds great in the loop.

Today I also ordered all parts to make a Klein-ulator just incase I
would like to use other effects with my Overtone.

60  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Build my Overtone, two problems. on: March 23, 2008, 08:10:09 PM
The 330pF I ordered are rated 500V.
