My man, try to download the tsc software from this link: http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/download.htmlIts a tone circuit simulator, which enables you to try different values in at Fender (dumble), Marshall, Vox etc tone circuit. Try it and you will get a different impression of the slope reistors impact on the circuit. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this

Is this on basis of the May 26 layout ? and when you say "on the mastervolume" where exactly between which two points ? ..and for which guitar / pickup is this worth a try ? All the best from Switzerland, Mike
Hi Mike, You solder the 47p to the input tap and center tap of the mastervolume...those are the two legs that are NOT connected to ground.

........ I'm a big fan of Joe Bonamassa & he combines Dumble/Marshall tones to amazing effect imho- so if I can get tones half as good as his I'll be a happy man! Might post piccies & sound samples if anyone's interested...
I know its an oldie, but Joe B would sound like Joe B even on a 100 USD Park. So go practice

Well, a JTM45 is pretty fendery until you drive it into overdrive, then it gets a little more agressive than the 59' Bassmann it was derived from.
The schematic Fender bassman 59'/ Marshall jtm45 is pretty similar, but the components make the whole difference.
Buy one of each !! ;-D

Plus why would you need a bright switch? You want the tone to be unaffected as much as possible right?
the bright switch is probably there, 'cause time effects (chorus, reverb, delay) back in the 70' - when the original dumbleator was designed - were analog and pretty lousy frequency wise, compared to 2008 digital quality. However, as always use your ears to get the right tone for your playin'

I've build the Overtone Special and you're right its a fine amp, if you twwek it to your likings.
If you prefer AC/DC and Free, I agree with you, this is not your amp. The OTS is for "touch"/nuance playing a la Robben Ford etc. (and you need a very experinced and dynamic band for that one and style.)
Go for the JTM45 or perhaps a AC30/ DC30 or similar (I have one of those too) for pedals and rounchy rock, which is also great.

I've put 47p (mesures 44p) on my mastervolume . It really opens up the amp and my clean slund is at an all time high. Try it !

Hello The Mark I boogie has the boost tube in position one V1, whereas the Overtone/dumble has it in position V2 like the Boogie Mark II, Mark III & Mark IV.
Therefore, you'll not get 100% early Santana tone out of the Overtone.
However, Santana has recently switched to Dumble amplifiers so perhaps Santana can get a tone close to you ;-)
I fully agree with you on the FET channel. I've trimmed mine so that a strat through the FET channel equals a les Paul through the normal input. So its just like a Fet boost build into the amp.

The Overtone has an inherently 'middle-frequency' bias- using humbuckers (especially un-potted one's like the SL's) makes this mid frequency hump even more pronounced; I suggest experimenting with changing the deep/bright switch caps in the amp - not sure what values you'd need to brighten the response - any of the other guys here could chip in with advice on that? I forgot to say that I also installed treble bleed caps in my Les Paul too- so if you dial back on the volume you don't darken your tone- easy to do and plenty of advice on the web about that mod. Maybe the deal with the Seth Lover pup's is that they were designed to mimic exactly the tones of original PAF's in Les Paul's - which were intended to be Jazz guitars! You might also try Eric Johnson signature humbuckers- which look like standard pups still with all the noise cancelling etc... but sound much like single coils- apparently Eric Johnson had the same 'too-dark' problem with humbuckers - so we're in good company then! Hey, Jzucker's mod to change the bright cap from 390p to 120p seem to have become state-of-art on this forum, but perhaps the "old" value of 390p would be better suited to humbuckers???

Ok, I have just assembled mine and was having troubles when I flicked the OD switch. I had forgotten to connect the potentiometer ground bar to ground, but the switches were connected rightly.
