No, seriously - do a search at this forum or at ampgarage.com
Its one of the most discussed subjects.

When I say fuzzy, I mean fuzzy-  don't tell me what I hear  Angry

I really love your playing, but your tone sounds wery fuzzy on all the overdrive settings, that you show on the clip.

It sounds like a fuzz pedal feed with high output humbuckers and not like a tube amp, sorry.

Still love your playin and your riffs. The clip you showed where you play with your band has a much better tone IMHO.  Smiley
379  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Best speaker?` on: March 27, 2009, 03:39:41 PM
Eminence Tonkerlite is the best there is

G12-65 and EV-12L are useless for most players!!
and are only popular because Larry Carlton use 12L and Robben Ford the G12-65 use these speakers.

Don't get fooled into copying the Pro's gear. They play at loud volumes, which most players won't be able to do. Therefore, focus your attention speakers suitable for low to medium playing. Hence, Eminence Tonkerlite.
380  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: HRM, very bright amp ? on: March 27, 2009, 06:10:07 AM
About the same amount of time.

My amp (non'hrm) was also very bright and hard sounding. So I started modifying on and on and after a month the amp sounded quite nice, after which I removed all my mods - except one which is lead tone - and the amp sounded alive.

So just have a little pateince..

Nice to know other productive people in the big world.

Forgot to mention - T-REX Comp Nova. Sounds exactly like my Keeley/ROSS/MXR MonteAllums Clone.
382  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OT compressor pedal on: March 25, 2009, 10:43:06 AM
Buy a Keeley compressor -

Or build one (keeley compressor) yourself. The Keeley is basically a Ross Compressor, which is very similar to an ordinary MXR Dynacomp.

You can get the PCB from tonepad.com or generalguitargadgets.com either pcb is fine.

Good luck
383  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: straight into the amp sounds different from through pedalboard. on: March 23, 2009, 12:36:12 PM
Well...give it a try without the wah a see if the highs come back..
384  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: straight into the amp sounds different from through pedalboard. on: March 23, 2009, 11:33:33 AM
I have a pedalboard with in the right order:
Korg Pitchblack tuner
Cry Baby 535Q
EMMA discumbobulator
Keeley TS9
Wampler Ecstacy Drive
I use GeorgeL patch cables
I use a Pedal Snake cable for the guitar signal from the board to the amp, the 9V adapter power, Midi and a leslie on/off switch.

As expected there's a difference in sound when I run my guitar directly into amp from the sound when I use my board.
Hard to describe the difference. It seems there's a bit more dynamics in the (OD) sound and the character of the guitar is a bit more detailed. With the pedal board the sound is a bit less direct and maybe a bit less harsh. Probably a high cut.

What could I do to optimize my board setup?

Second question. I use a fairly high grade adapter to power the effects on the board and to power the Kleinulator. This seems to prduce a nasty hum. Strangely enough I think this wasn't the case before. I have my PC running in the same room as my amp. Could it be a net problem? RFI/EMI?  Should I get a Furman? better power chord?

Thanks for your help guys :-)

In my setup there's a difference in tone. As far as I know all my pedals are true bypass but still. How do you guys handle this?

cheers
Steven

1. question "What could I do to optimize my board setup?"
Try to plugin to your effects without your 'Cry Baby 535Q'. Wahs are notoriously known for loading your sound down, due to low input impedance of these units.
If your sound i brighter without the wah. You can
a) Install a true bypass switch in your wah pedal OR
b) use a line driving pedal in front of the wah. This could be any boss pedal. And since you don't have a compressor on your pedal board, yet, you could buy any boss compresser (the CS3 is nice) and 'high cut of tone' problem should be eliminated, wheater you use the Boss compressor (or similar) in 'on' or 'off' mode.

2. Hum question
I assume that you use the Kleinulator in the Overtone effects loop. And your pedals in front the the amp (instrument) input.

Use a seperate supply for your Kleinulator.

If this doesn't solve the humming, you probably have a ground loop on your pedal board. Use a 9v chord form your psu, without ground connetion. You can buy one in every music store. My T-REX junior supply has one included from the get go.

A furmann should not be necessary.

385  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: mounting a "Klein" in OTS cab ? on: March 15, 2009, 06:09:40 PM
The Klein will take up to 30-50  VDC depending on which JFET is used in the circuit - so no problem wiht 12 VDC :-)
386  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: mounting a "Klein" in OTS cab ? on: March 15, 2009, 05:32:36 PM
Or you could feed the Klein from the 12 VDC realy supply inside the OTS
387  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Capacitor Upgrades on: March 09, 2009, 07:31:13 AM
+1 - (Mustard Caps are for Marshall Amps and cannot be considered an upgrade in af Dumble type amp or blackface fender for that matter)
388  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS clean channel not very loud on: December 21, 2008, 09:20:08 AM
I'm also the owner of a OTS50 and my reference is also Fender (blackface/silverface and 59' RI bassman) amps without master volume.

The D-style amps is another beast, than your regular Fender amps.

I mostly play Strat and Tele with Single coil pickups.

I tend to have the input volume on 2-3 o'clock and the master on 12 o'clock when gigging - which is 'full' volume for a clean setting.

My drive pot is at 12 o'clock and lead drive master is at 2-3 oclock.

Trimmer is set at 9 o'clock, which gives med 'the' D-style sound... I use pedals if I want more heavy distortion/overdrive.

Conclusion: I dont think your amp is wrong, its just different form playin a Fender.

389  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: What a difference :) new preamp tubes on: December 17, 2008, 12:08:26 AM
Hi

I've just installed a couple of Tungsram ECC83 NOS tubes in position V1 and V2... And WOW I thought the amp sound amazing before (and it did), but now it sounds even more amazing...

I had a couple of stock JJ ECC83 before...

With the tungsram tubes the clean channel opens up even more, and with a more punchy bass, and shiny trebles... Even the OD channel breaks up extremely nice... It's more naturally sounding OD than before... definetly worth changing your preamp tubes Smiley

René

Hi René,
Where did you buy the NOS tungsram ? pyndt.dk?

Best regards Claus
390  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Having trouble w/ Clean Channel of my OTS 50! on: October 27, 2008, 04:04:04 PM
I`ve never experienced that w/ other master volume circuits. Why does it act that way w/ this particular amp? Thanks again!

This is due to the fact, that the fender preamp/tonecontrol circuit puts out much less volts that a Dumble preamp.
In a typical fender (blackface) preamp circuit with a 10k mid pot or 6,8k fixed resistor, there is much more signal dampening, than in a Dumble-style preamp.

A dumble preamp/tone circuit has a 250k mid pot and puts out 10-20 dB more signal to the poweramp. Its ALMOST like haveing a fender pre with the middle pot up full AND the preamp gain at full power.

There you have it !! ;-)
