A faulty pot maybe?
347  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Sheilding in head cab? on: August 18, 2009, 07:43:37 PM
Hey everyone,

I'm about to build a head cab for my OTS and I was wondering if the inside of the top should have some shielding to shield the electronics. If it does, what material?
Anything else of the sort that I should know for head cab building?
Thanks,
Alex

Shielding the cabinet is not nessasary. If you paly a singlecoil guitar, its probably better to use the schielding there instead  Smiley

I've been all over the ceriatone product page...where does purchase this mythical Klienulator?

Rock n' Roll! Cheesy

Great rock playin' !

(In order to facilitate a Les Paul, you mighy consider trimming off some bass in the OD section)

I would use a 1M pot, which is similar to the input impedance of both the Dumblator and the Klein.
(A 250K pot might roll off some of the high frequences in the signal). Remember not to use too use long connection cables, which might also roll off highs.

Tip: If you have a small booster pedal, you can put this after the reverbpedal in order to get the signal up to the same level as before the pot. Your signal path would look like this:

Overtone preamp (send) => 1M pot => reverb pedal => boost pedal => (return) Overtone poweramp

This way you get the essence of a Klein/dumblator, even though a klein or dumblator would be superior.
351  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Effects loop gain control for OTS? on: July 23, 2009, 06:16:20 AM
Your pedal receives too much input signal, which is why it overdrives nasty.

Adding a pot at the loop input to reduce the signal is the solution.

And that is exactly what the klein is capable of. It lowers the signal to the pedal, so it wont distort (your pot idea), AND amplify the signal after the pedal back to 'the initial' level, so you don't loose signal.

Blues:  I make custom guitar knobs and other stuff out of wood so I have a thing for custom wooden goodies.

Hywelg:  LOL!  This amp will never leave my house.  Well, maybe to go to the studio.  Wink

Once I get the cabinet, I may make  yet another set of plates.  This one in Walnut.  We'll have to see when the cabinet arrives.  This amp will have all custom wood knobs on it, too.  Maybe I'll even make a wooden cable!  If I could only get it to pass current.

I fully respect that you are making a 'showcase' amp, which pictured alongside your custom products, will help boosting your custom guitar knob business.
353  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS HRM Facelate on: July 03, 2009, 08:10:32 AM
It will look similar to this cabinet.

Personally, I think you are overdoing the wood finish thing.

However, I come from the land of Bang & Olufsen, which is probably why I prefer more subtle, somewhat  cooler, Bauhaus like designs.  Cool
354  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Stratocaster through Overtone on: June 27, 2009, 09:48:39 PM
The most omportant mod you can make to facilitate both lespauls and strats is a switch, that swhtches between a 10n and 47 n 'mid' capacitor. Simple but effectfull!

I will not comment the Dumble vid ... but man I wish I could be in that room...

The second vid is awesome... Tony you're an awesome player and the tone is awesome as well.
What did you have in loop? or in from of amp

I have another question for you...  Wink
On that NY amp show you've seen/heard (probably tried) most of the D style amps in existence, from different builders.
How does OTS compare too all that?

...btw I already know your answer.

Thanks for the kind words.
I love 'em all.  Depends on the day as to preference.  Like Baskin and Robbins.
Dumble obviously had more girth, but it's a 100 w amp.  I changed v1 in the OT 2 days ago, and it's now much more like the Dumble than before.
Dumble sounded amazing with a 335 played by the guy before me.  I think I feel more comfortable on the OT  with the Tele.

Tony, Which tube brand and type have you installed in V1 ?? Please share Smiley
A sovtek LPS
Thanks  Wink

Good question.....although, Tony cannot possibly provide us with an answer on that one, since he didnt swap the tubes between the two amps respectively nor reverse engineer the Dumble on the celestion demo stand.

We could also ask him, if the differences between the two amps could be due to

- the transformers used or
- the values of the powerstring used and thereof voltages
- the capacitor make or
- the construction differences between a ODS and a S&M
- etc

He cannot possibly answer any of it  Cool
358  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: A real Dumble vs Ceriatone S&M -Video comparison on: June 25, 2009, 02:36:21 PM
Tony, you're a great player !!!
Both the Dumble and the SM sound great.  Smiley

I'm a little curious about the feel of the amps.
How would you describe the difference in 'feel' between the two amps, if any?

...even if its two very different situations - playin at a show and playing in a more quiet studio setting.

I wouldn't do a free float....
360  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS gets "evil" when I engage PAB on: May 14, 2009, 04:17:35 PM
ah ok. I think my amps sounds very boxy when you hit the PAB switch.
When you put a 8ohm cab on a 4 ohm output tap, the clean PAB isn't boxy anymore.

Hi Erwin
can that damge anything? I have an 8 Ohm cab with 2 Celestion g12-65 speakers (16 ohm each)

You can always 'mismatch' a tube amp 100%.

E.g. If your amp has an 4 ohm tap only, you can run it with both a 2 ohm cabinet or an 8 ohm cab.
I've run an old bassman top, which has a 4 ohm tap, for many years. No problem.
