Ceriatone / Overtone / It doesn't work! :(

Hello, finished my amp, followed the paul ruby tests and everything was looking peachey up until i went to bias the valves. All the volume controls were at 0, only the mid treb and bass controls were at 5, everything else at 0.
All the valves are in and the bias is set to the most negative it can. I flick the on button BURRRRRRRRR!!!. A very loud oscilation. Any ideas? I am using EL34s if it helps (cracked a 6l6 trying to put it in, doh) what should i do?

Ceriatone / Overtone / how important are matched valves?

Hello, i just managed to crack a brand new 6l6 putting it in the OT and i really do not want to spend another £30 on a matched set when i still have one the works perfectly well. Also, i bent the pins on an ECC83 and i am worried that if i use it, when it comes to replacing it, the pins will get stuck in the socket. Are the pins easy to get out?
thanks.

i haven't thought about how i will make the cab yet. I think i will make it from red fake suade. It will probably look real tacky but at least it will be individual. How do you cover an amp?

mine seems fine, I assume that the 2 wires with the greatest resistance will leave the other wire to be the centre tap. In which case, it is the red wire on mine.

Its a very handy test that i will never forget, and it seems so obvious! just goes to show that you shouldn't just copy the diagrams.

How important is it to balance the PI? i its something i dont know how to do, nor do i have the eqiupment. I assume you would have to bring up both +and- signals on a oce and match the signals osciloscope.

Hello, somehow i managed to lose the big fat orange "death cap" and, more importantly, the 180k dale resistor at V2. Does anyone know of any uk internet stores where i could get a replacement or another brande/type i could use?
thanks!
