Hi

Just use something like a 1K 5W resistor, from + of cap to ground, held for a few seconds. Check with meter to see any voltage left.

As for this, did you check the voltages?

I am not sure if the GDS PT is same color codes as ours, so do check on that. For all we know, the OT center tap could be the blue wire instead.

But voltages do tell a lot.  If your EL84 glows brighter on 1 side, it could be the OT wiring. or perhaps the cathode pin wiring - I see how your soldering is forming a blob on one of em. This could, possibly, mean that the other wire is not making good connection.

And, I guess, PI section can also contribute to this, check there too.

Usually, when soldering, you make good connection first. Ie, affix the wire to the lug well. You can insert and then form 1/2 a loop with the post, for eg. Do for both wires, in this case, and only then solder.

It'd also make good looking solder, done this way.

Thanks!

Hi

It should be noted that:

"Set to 1K5", for eg, for the trimmer pots, that 1K5 value is POT only. It's wired as a var resistor, in series to the fixed 1K to ground

So 1K5 + 1 = 2K5 total.

if any questions, just email me direct. No use to go wondering at another forum for a week. My answer will come to you, via email, within hours Smiley

Thanks!

Whats the verdict?

I registered to said forum, and posted a reply. Not sure if they will allow it, but here it is:

Mike

This is Nik S Azam from Ceriatone.

I am sorry but I feel I have to chime in here.

Not only you USE MY layout (not my kit), which is totally fine by me, but faulting us IN THE TOPIC (why not call your topic Home Built Metroamp 2204 sounds harsh?), just because you cannot wire properly, is a bit unfair.

It is misleading, and in a lot of instances, would cause a lawsuit over there.

In your other posts in this forum, you have stated you used MC Trannies, Tung Sol preamp tubes, etc, things that we clearly do not sell. I am not even sure how your layout is, since lead dress is a concern, and it does matter a lot in the 2204 type.

In April of this year, in another topic on this forum, you MENTIONED the same issue of redplating, and then a few days later, got it fixed. And you said you were back to stock JCM800 (presumably per my layout), and it's what you like.

(note: see your topic abt "my journey" something something bla bla...

Now, it is October, and suddenly you have same issues that were posted in April? How come?

It should be noted in your posts in said topic, you managed to take a swipe at some other layouts by a company that is no longer in favor here (I believe), which is Rockstah's. Are you just a username used to post these type of topics, for thousands to see?

I can definitely take my layouts down (that's used by many) and no longer put up layouts in the future if thats what you want. I definitely receive many emails of thanks for putting up those layouts, especially to those who are new to making amps. Perhaps your hands are just for playing guitar, they are too delicate to solder things.

Before this escalates any further (trust me, your vested interest friends do not want this to happen), i do suggest changing the topic to something else, or delete this topic altogether.

And, dear "gurus" - it's funny how different trouble shooting here when it comes to "non booteek" amps. No gut shots? Not even voltage and bias info request? Mallory 150 caps at fault? Heck, thats a big jump in conclusion without even the OP saying what he used. Objective my ass!

Thank you very much. Have a nice day.

Nik

See here:

http://forum.metroamp.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=36857

1) The OP said he used my layout. Nowhere did he state he bought my kit. He used MY layout to make the amp and it doesnt sound good. I would say it's his prized booteek trannies thats causing the issue. Got to use Ceriatone trannies to sound good. How abt that??

2) Another guru chimed in saying that the caps used are at fault. We use MALLORY 150 series, the ones that would have been used in countless matchless, and other makes.

Thats not the point. The point is, OP uses a kit of his own making, without anyone knowing whats inside, or how the layout is.

And, metallized polyester not OK? Hey bro, I can list 10 companies using same type with amps costing at least 3K each.

3) No, 100K into 4 ohms is the one best sounding with MY feng shui oriented, mojo plated chassis, for this circuit. How does he know? Has he used my stuff before? Most likely not.

4) OP says he has been playing marshalls for 35 years. This is a 2204 amp, with MV set at 2. WTF?

5) Notice how "systematic" the trouble shooting is? No pics, not gut shots, no asking whether it's really MY kit? Whats the B+ voltage, whats the bias at?

It's funny when it's one of those booteek kits, people are always so kind over there to go through even the screw heads, as those sure can screw the tone.

So how? I take down all my layouts?

For those registered there, pls feel free to post my reply over there.

Thanks!

37  Website, Store / General / Re: UPS Import broker fees on: October 04, 2011, 03:29:56 PM
Hi

To USA, the tax is supposed to be 2%

On top of this, UPS charges abt USD 6 to collect on behalf of Uncle Sam.

So the fees are pretty much tax + brokerage fee.

Thanks!

Hi

Cool!

With the upcoming release of the SSS, I guess we can explore the blackface more.

With us having more recognition,  I think we can do what we want, to the design.

it used to be "clone just sells easier.." but I think the natural progression, after some recognition, is to offer improved products of similar type

Well, some of you will smile knowing how "improved" stuff worked out for fender in the 70s.

But I am talking more abt features, look and feel, etc. I really dont like the slanted chassis front of the BF amps, for eg. Now I can make em straight and not worry so much! hehe..

Well actually, it worries me that we need to have 50 different cab designs. I'd love it if we can have 30 models that share the same cabs!

of course, the 1st phase of attack would be to the DR and SR models.

Thanks!

Dear all

Thanks much for the replies, sorry havent been here for a bit.

The issue is being resolved.

Hard to tell the full story without embarrassing some parties, so suffice to say it's working out fine, for this.

The amp is being shipped to the owner, and we'll see once he receives it,  if it's fine.

Thanks so much for the replies, guys!! Smiley

Thanks!

Hi,

The one we're doing, it's 100W type and there's no driver (12BH7). I think not all of them had the driver tube.

I am not sure if the filter is same between the 100 and 150W versions.

BUT, seeing how the filter is done, I guess that'd open it up for tweaks. having said that, I am not sure what else is different in the 150W version.

The release is almost there. We were screwed by a company which was supposed to supply us with the inductors. After not hearing for several weeks despite numerous emails and phone calls (this is to FL, USA), I had to ask my winder to make em for me, so thats in progress.

Well, the company did get back to me, a few days ago. The price was 5x more than originally quoted (MOQ was 1500 pcs by the way).

I wish this could have been done sooner, but no way we were going to agree to that.

In the meantime, while waiting for above to play out, I did add a mini switch or two for more tweakability to the amp! Smiley

Hopefully, we can get this released soon.

Thanks!

Hi Thats cool Al

But biasing cold wont hurt the amp or cause it to blow a tube.

I suspect the tube got hit in shipment, and broke.

Thats what the white powder stuff is.

Anyways do keep us posted on how it goes?

Thanks!

44  Website, Store / Ceriatone.com / Ceriatone OTS stolen, Brisbane, Australia need help on: September 18, 2011, 03:18:00 PM

A Ceriatone OTS amp was stolen in Brisbane, Australia and I am posting here, perhaps someone can help.

The amp was delivered last month, but to a wrong address (owner moved house). The house was supposed to be with several rented rooms. To cut it short, it was taken.

An ebay posting surfaced, and I strongly believe it was the exact amp:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ceriatone-Overtone-Special-Tube-Amplifier-/260852675527?pt=AU_Amplifiers&hash=item3cbc07f3c7%3E#ht_5107wt_1137

Investigation has been started both by the courier and the local Brisbane police on the issue.

If someone in the area of Brisbane, Australia are willing to help, please contact me. I am offering a reward for safe return (to the owner) of the amp.

The reward is as follows:

1) Beat up the guy who took it to a pulp, and safe recovery and delivery  of amp = USD 400

2) Safe recovery of amp = USD 375
(hey, beating up trash dont bring much money. But if it's your thing, do it!)

Thank you, much appreciated!!

Thanks!

nik

Hi

I will give it 1 more month.

if spam doesnt improve, then I will close this forum down, and start another one.

Automated registration issues shouldnt be a problem with more modern, advanced, up to date, cool, forum programs thats available freely on the web these days.

(if thats not a hint, dont know what is)

Thanks!
