But have you swapped tubes yet?
I dont know your experience level but if you just take the tube in V1( Furthest tube from transformers ) and swap it with the tube in V2 ( tube next to V1, or middle small tube ) this can tell alot as Nik mentioned. When pulling the tube remove the tube shield by turning Lefty loosie then pull downwards then grab tube and while pulling wiggle in circular motion. When replacing tubes in the sockets make sure and notice where the gap between pins is then line up with socket and insert using same circular motion while pushing. Make sur the tubes are inserted fully then power up amp and try out. Try both the clean and OD channel and note what problems are on each.
Also if you notice what looks to be white powder inside the glass of any tube, that means the tube is bad!
Then report back
Just doing this may save you alot of money on repair people.

Whoa I hope you dont think I've ever bashed you/Ceriatone. Quite the opposite actually I was just joking about that layout, and appreciate you keeping the price low although I will not be getting any amps pre-built. I enjoy building them as much as playing them. Hope you will bring the kits back Todd

OK Nik Think you better post the layout so I/we can proofread/error check We wouldn't want to put the amps out and then start doing revisions would we Seriously curious Todd

9 out of 10 times when an amp goes from working to not working it is tubes so I have read/heard, and also experienced. Tubes can be bad out of the box brand new! So the amount of playing time really doesn't prove anything.
The next question I have is, are the tubes both glowing ( heaters lit ) and not red plating. Also what voltage/millivolts is the bias set to?
Also, whats in your effects loop? Dumb question but one day my power to my delay pedal got pulled out ( Boss DD3 non true bypass ) and had similar problem. I was ready to open amp up and start swapping tubes and all that but luckily noticed that first.
Assuming you have a meter.

Next step would be to swap tubes! Tubes can go at any time, a couple years is pretty good for new production tubes. I agree they should last longer but doesn't mean they will!
When you say "quiet" do you mean no sound at all or is the amp just weak?
After that next step would be to take some pics of guts and post here.
Did you build the amp or Niks crew?

Hard decisions on these amps since there are so many versions. Although there probably is no bad decision, although I only have played the FM50 so far so cant really comment on the rest. I do not think the FM is overly bright with or without C-lator but I do love my reverb and delay so effects buffer is a must for me! You could also just run a crappy high pf cable through the effects loop to tame highs as well for meantime. Most everyone is using a effects buffer of some sort though whether its the C-D-K-lator or Ive even heard Digitech RP50 works, it also alows you to set MV high on amp and then use Buffer as MV which sounds better IMO.
Good luck on your decision

I believe the layouts are still on the site. For now A layout makes a poor replacement for a bill of materials, but that and the various schematics it may be all that's available right now. I would definitely prefer working from a schematic, which is more the road map of the amp, than a layout which is more just for assembly purposes. Agreed , there is definitely some work to be done when building a BOM from layout but the info is there. If you dont know what voltage rating the caps are for instance you may need to refer to pics which are also posted. It is possible though. Have fun Todd

Cool man
I have the FM50 ME and its great! I am also in process of building the HRM MK2. What kind of guitar / pups do you use mostly? From what I hear all of these are good with Humbuck's but not so much with singles except the BM unless they are modded somehow. The only person that knows every model that I know of is Nik. So it may be a good idea to email him explaining the type of tone you are after and see what he says. Theyre are several mods not listed on the site that he will do as well ie. the John Mayer mod etc.

Here are pics of RF's setup without D-lator from Mar2011 http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=3478.0There is one unknown pedal on that board that could very well be a buffer, but I have also heard he doesnt use the OD on his amp anymore since HAD last modded it. He used the Zen many times that night. I was not quite close enough to see if he was using Dumble pedals OD or PAB. Todd
