167  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Suitable Cab & Speaker Combination for bedroom with OTS on: September 24, 2009, 02:39:52 PM
I reccommend a 2x12 although the more speakers you have the louder it will be. so maybe a 1x12 may be better for you.

Youre also going to want lower effeciency speakers which will keep the volume down too. You might also want to try different power tubes 5881's and 6V6's have less headroom and less volume
168  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: converting from 50w to 100w on: September 23, 2009, 07:11:16 PM
you'd need new transformers which will run you around $400. so if you change them make sure you get some real high quality ones.

I've been thinking of possibly doing a 2xKT88 100 watter. IMO the KT88 tubes have a much better bass response. It doesnt get "farty" or "flabby"just  nice and smooth like you would expect from a bass amp, while still retaining the other pleasurable qualities of the 6L6 sound. and you wouldnt need to wire in the extra sockets

This is how to NOT mod your OTS

170  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: How to adjust PI Trimmer? on: September 20, 2009, 05:08:16 PM
turn it.

it wont need to be set if you just got the amp.

but you just turn it.
171  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: transformers specs on: September 14, 2009, 04:01:21 PM
try emailing Nik.

you could always contact Mercury Magnetics for specs on a "better" transformer.
172  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Increasing (clean) headroom on: September 13, 2009, 03:07:38 AM
my clean volume is at 12 oclock and my master never goes above 9 oclock because it just breaks up too much
173  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Increasing (clean) headroom on: September 12, 2009, 11:00:26 PM
thanks guys. i'll check the bias. this amp just gets so much power tube distortion. if i crank the master on the clean channel it gets past vintage marshall territory gain wise.

Honestly, I avoided posting this earlier because I figured there were people with more experience with the D*mble/Overtone that would bring it up.  I know it's been mentioned at this forum before by a few people, including Nik.

If you're cranking the Master Volume, you're doing it wrong.  The D*mble style preamp/master doesn't work like most MV amps.

For maximum clean headroom, you want the Master Volume around 11-12 o'clock and the channel Volume around 12-3 o'clock.

I can't remember why this is, and can't find a reference why it works this way online, but it's one of many D*mble ODS quirks everyone passes on to one another.

Somewhere I'm sure you can find a site or post with recommended D*mble ODS settings that you can apply toward the Ceriatone OTS.

Put for now, Master Volume around 11-12 o'clock, Volume somewhere between 12-3 o'clock.

i know this is a preamp distortion amp. but if i had my master at 12-3 oclock like you said the clean channel would not be clean at all

any ideas such as tube changes to get more clean headroom from the OTS, mine starts getting dirty before "3" on the master volume.

my settings are.  volume 5, treble 4, bass 5, mids 6. mid on, rock, bright off. master needs to stay low too. i use single coil guitars.

will a *****lator help to increase headroom? since it can send less signal to the poweramp therefor staying cleaner.
176  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 6V6's in OTS on: September 10, 2009, 01:08:31 AM
i think JJ 6v6's are rated at 450V incase the ones you have crap out
177  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Best speaker?` on: September 06, 2009, 10:18:32 PM
Thats an interesting list Doc and I was wondering if you've had chance to try the new Tayden speakers , especially the alnico's. I have an EVM-12L curently paired with an Eminence Tonespotter in an open backed 2x12 and a G12-65 in my DC-30 combo. I need to spend some time moving speakers around as I have an Eminence Texas Heat spare, but I think this isn't the speaker to pair up with the EV, I need an alnico I think, probably will be a Gold.

good idea but i'd go with weber to save some cash

just my 2 cents

I too, didnt like celestions, i have some custom alnico speakers in a 2x12 thanks to ted weber and it sounds perfect, i think everyone needs to trey alnicos before anything else
179  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Bright switch on: August 25, 2009, 05:13:00 PM
yes, by putting on a relay that you connect to the OD/Clean relay.

I just done the same to the mid boost, so it only comes into play, when I engage the OD.

how exactly did you do that? im interested in doing this
