My HRM Bluesmaster ....The amp has no balls,....

167  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Noise and buzz on: October 01, 2010, 08:07:01 PM
Does it make the same noise when there is no guitar plugged in ? Also would you say it was a hum or buzz (If that makes any sense)? Checked all cords ( guitar cables and speaker cables) Have you swapped preamp tubes? If not find one that you know works and swap tubes 1 by 1 until you've either narrowed it down to a faulty tube or not.

I know these questions may seem rather obvious but usually all signs point to a simple problem that until you rule it out you can't completely say otherwise, just sayin..

Yeah I don't get it, the more gigs I get booked the more I seem to end up surfing the net somehow. I'm  booked 5 gigs ahead and I'm damn happy about it!! Chair Dance

Didn't mean to critise. I allways think your tone is great. :-)
I realise I must try to record my amp. It's not quite fair otherwise.

Thanks Steven, I do appreciate the constructive criticism and your honesty.
172  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone Soundclips on: September 18, 2010, 06:42:05 PM
I must confess it's a bit gainy for my taste. But maybe that's because it's a HRM?. Porbably just a matter of taste :-)

 Steven,

Yes you're right the Drive was @ about 2:30 and @ a higher setting than usual. I usually turn the drive up when I'm in "Lindley Land" playing slide.

 More to come:
 (Sorry about the buzz)
Got a 84' strat and put some Burstbuckers in it.

Great sounds, your best yet!
Sounds like the amp has a nice compression on the OD. How does it feel playing wise.....can you get thos tones with low volume or do you have to crank it? looks like you've got the volume at noon.
What is your gain trim setting? (measured from center pin to ground)

 Thanks!

All my youtube vids are at an above moderate level (Loudness), I was using a D-lator with that BTW and the Level control was set @ about 9 to 10:00 o'clock, Amp Master Vol@ 11:00. All done with a SM57 with a Shotgun Mic approach, the amp itself is dead quiet BTW, that buzz is from the Di (Its messed up right now for some reason?) I use to interface the mic with the camera.

For the most part I can get them tones @ about any level. The louder it gets the less compressed it gets , the more focused it becomes IMO.

When I do crank it @ gigs the notes feedback and Bloom into themselfs. This amp gets better every F' in day !! I'll do some slide vids 2day if I get the time.

I'll measure the gain trim in a few days when I change the Frnt panel LED

That amp is killer! Dead nuts Lindly tone. I'm doing a bunch of slide/lapsteel vids for you-tube soon too
178  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Question to all the modders out there on: September 11, 2010, 11:37:24 PM
So, it is a bullshit story!! wanna sound interesting?Huh?

Jon is not bullshiting us. He's a respectable builder (and a hell of a guitar player). The only reason you're not familiar with him is because he's not frequent in the guitar player/builder community (Yet). He's been building Mic pre's, audio recording equipment, guitar gear for a very long time and has a reputable boutique company. There's no reason for him to bullshit any of us, he's merely respecting someone's wishes to remain quiet. He's been involved in electronics for the past few decades and has a vast knowledge on how things work.
179  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Tube Recommendations on: September 11, 2010, 11:23:02 PM
I would recommend Tung-sol's too but I've had too many fail on me in the past few weeks that its not worth it anymore. I do agree although that they sound great and I haven't found a tube that rivals with them, however the RI Mullard ECC83's sound F 'in great to my ears. JJ's can be stiff but they're very resilient consistent and longevity is not an issue with them, however they can be quite sterile sounding IMO.

I think that the tone of these amps will reflect on the players note control. Anyone who can manipulate these amps with absolute control can get what we all perceive as the classic "Dumble tone". You can watch any player and the way their hands move in hopes to imitate them but some the best guitar players can use so much accuracy that its hard to replicate it. D-amps are so subjective to guitars/hands/strings/action etc. that its hard to pinpoint an exact sound, its better for me to use Dumble references as a vehicle for new sound/ideas.  Of course this is all IMHO
