just tell Nik what you want to play like
But tbh these are the most flexible amps I've ever used, so I think no customisation is really needed
If you want a JM sound, I thought the Bluesmaster HRM might be better. Depends if you like ultra-clean fender sounds through an EVM12, or blackfacey sounds through Alnico drivers. I like both, so got a BM and a plain HRM
Thank you sir..I was kidding about JM ha ha he flat turns me off for some reason. I am thoroughly confused right now. My thought is that I'll get the other amp running how I want it and then at the same time , if I can, I'll get a HRM. A tip..don't quit smoking and make decisions at the same time, ones that cost you money.:0

Okay I have whined and puled about my amp enough, and have come to the conclusion I will never be happy with it, me and it are in a bad relationship ha ha. Although I am not a very good guitar player I know one truth. Life is short and then you die and if possible we should have fun whenever we can and my fun is learning how to play guitar. I am over 70 and I really do know that you should never hold back, life should be lived. I have been going over all the posts and have decided that I should get an HRM any suggestions for mods Nik can do before I get it are appreciated except for a JM mod..no no ha ha.

Also I would like to thank all you guys for your posts on all subjects I have learned a lot. I will stick around this time it is nice company.

Sorry to be so pissed I apologize

Rock on wbfree! 71 and still rocking, good on you mate

Yep, d clones are more complex than the usual out there. Does pay off to send it to someone experienced and does what you want, not what they want...., like most hair dressers but that's another story

Ha ha thanks for making me laugh with the hairdresser analogy true dat. I talked to the amp guy in San Jose mentioned above and he knows dumble..just sent him some picks of amp guts. Take care @71 you figure out, or I did anyhow, what you should know when you are young, life is short then you die and go for it. Life is meant to be lived, there are no rules for what age you need to be to do or not do things. Just be kind and try not to hurt anyone.

I wonder if someone could tell me which amp I have, I bought it in 2008. I assume it is a non HRM  70's style but I am lame about electronics. My other question..sorry, is this..I ordered a matched pair of SED winged C 6l6gc's and they won't bias lower than 61 mv. The tubes I am replacing are JJ 6l6gc's and I set the bias way low to see if I was doing something wrong, at 18 mv to be specific, and the SED won't go lower than 61 mv. Are these SED's too hot, am I missing something because quite frankly I am ready to throw this amp in the trash. I have had nothing but bad luck. You guys talk about the great tone..I have no tone clean or OD. I can't turn the 100k OD pot underneath on the circuit board past 8:30 or it just gets too noisy, real noisy. I am ready to buy another amp from someone else..can you tell I am at the end of my rope. I wish I knew more about what is going on so I could fix it. My feeling is that I will get a Sebago Amp voiced 70's style and forget about this piece of shit, or once again is this all on me and just so you know I am quitting smoking right now and going crazy ha ha.

I was able to get the transformers for my bluesmaster directly from MM at wholesale through Nik - he's a dealer - you paypal him the cost, and he sets it up so MM sends you the transformers. Got them for a great price that way! Although it does sound like you need to find the problem first.
Ive since found that there are other transformers but I have already put in the stock one. I wanted to say thanks to all of you. I have another topic (overtone) and my on going quest to get the sound right. So thank you I really appreciate the input.

There is one more possible cause for failure of OT and that is my ohm setting which I had on eight and my speaker, A G12-65 which is 15 ohms ooops. My understanding now is that I can set selector at say 16 ohms for an 8 ohm speaker but I shouldn't go the other way and set an 8 ohm at 4, or a 16 ohm at 8. There is no point in doing this, that I know of. I have no idea why I set the amp at 8 ohms for a 15 ohm speaker but it is the wrong thing to do. So like I said my bad..operator abuse.

There was a loose connection found at on off light, I was running el34's at a hot bias, I pulled the effects loop cables out with it on standby. It could have been anyone of those causes with a combination of 1 or more or it could have been something I am not seeing. I replaced it again and would have used a mercury magnetics tranny if I had thought of that. I didn't know he had a drop in replacement. The tech, who broke my faceplate at that on/off light and told me to get a new one and he would install it for free..how nicer of him ha ha, last time I take anything to him, put a fuse on the low voltage lead on the tranny so I won't have this problem again I hope..I feel cursed. I just posted this to let you all know what happened..I take responsibility, I am sure I did something wrong Smiley

It is nice to see that you are still here. I don't know how to do any of this. What is TAG. When they passed out brains they forget to put electricity in mine.

TAG - The Amp Garage, a site dedicated only to Dumble and Trainwreck builds.  I believe the url is www.ampgarage.com

Thank you sir. When I get my amp running closer to how these sound I'll be happy
http://www.sebagosound.com/index.php?id=11. Will let you know. I get busy doing many things so if you don't hear from me for a while that is why. I owe it to you guys for helping an electronically challenged numbskull..

Hey dude, I can relate.  Some techs are awesome, some are shite.  Hard to find a good one.

So, I live in the the East Bay and I found a guy down in San Jose that builds his own D-clones.  Bill at Sebago Sound.  I had put some questions up on Amp Garage and he responded with a PM.  Did some great work on my Bluesmaster 100w and is just a good guy.  I'd suggest contacting him.

Thanks Rane. Coincidense

Thanks Rane I will call him. There is a guy in Chico that might know dumbles too. Funny thing I am going to Los Gatos to see my ex mother in law..ha  ha, made myself  laugh thinking about mother in law jokes. She turned into a friend and in this life we can't be choosy where they come from, just grateful  that they appear.

Not sure when I am going but soon for sure she is ninety and I am 71, an old grandpa. I want to do this fairly soon. Thanks for the reply.

You also need to route the V1 and V2 plate and cathode wires close to one another. Search lead dress on TAG. I also re-routed the heater wires up in the air

One other thing I did over Christmas when I did a load of rewiring and mods was to orientate the signal caps correctly.  Again search TAG for info. All those changes made a huge difference my amp is a lot livelier now.

I didn't get all the way through this thread but man I am having the same problem among others..thanks I don't trust myself and amp guts ha ha. I assume somewhere here is a picture of the heater wires and how you do it. Do you need longer wires?
Bdog/Burnie/wbfree/Max

I don't know my ass from a bucket of grapes about electronics and I'll have to explain this to whoever I get to do this and I would like to do everything possible to get the OD channel working. I am retired, the bldg industry where I lived died so I can't buy another amp this is it. Do any of you live near Redding, Ca.

28  Ceriatone / Overtone / overtone on: February 04, 2013, 06:48:42 AM
I got my amp in 2009. It blew a transformer so I sent it to a authorized tech to fix while he had it he modded it but I don't know what he did, I trusted him. I got it back and I didn't like the sound so I just shelved it and used my other amps. I moved to Ca and after the move I fired up the overtone and it blew another tranny. I had it fixed here in Redding, Ca. and switched power tubes..I was using el34's now I am using 6l6's and am going to get some winged C 6l6gc's. I have no idea why I blew two tranny's the tech here who fixed it thinks there was a short. He broke my face plate and told me that someone else tightened the on light bezel too tight. I have had it with all these effing techs. Can you tell I am mad ha ha. Okay the tranny's never should have failed it is just my bad luck and that is not my point, my point is I have never heard my amp really so I don't know how it sounds. I am going to try a third time to find a tech who knows dumble amps and see if I can get it running  how I want which is to experience the rich tone this amp is famous for. I could care less whether I sound like Robben Ford or, Larry Carlton or anyone else you care to name. I don't give a shit I just want what this amp is capable of or as close as you can come. That first tech took out the negative feedback loop without even asking me. So here I sit with no real idea where to head because I don't know other than the feedback loop what the first tech did and i am trying to find a tech around here who knows these amps. I am electrically illiterate so I am at the mercy of these so called techs and my point in writing all this is to get some feedback from some of you and get a plan that actually will solve the problem and get me an amp that sounds good. I want to point out that this has nothing to do with Nik or ceriatone. He has treated me straight up. Anyway, sorry to be a bitch, I am just frustrated..so any ideas ha ha..and thanks in advance

Thanks SoundPerf
It's the low voltage wires 3.15b volts. I don't remember what happened last I replaced it. But I will take your advice it may be something else causing this so to a tech it goes. Just for information I will post what he finds. I will get a hold of Nik if there is a problem getting a tranny.

30  Ceriatone / Overtone / power tranny on: May 04, 2012, 04:35:54 PM
It has been awhile since I posted here. I am hoping one of you can steer me in the right direction. My Power tranny fried on the low voltage winding....brown wire. This is the second tranny I have put in it. I doubt it would be covered by any warranty so I have to buy a new one and not necessarily one from ceriatone. I cant't believe it happened again but it did..any suggestions on a tranny for this amp are appreciated.  Huh? Huh?
