I would buy it.
One of the best M*tchless amps ever.

Better than the DC30?
19  Muchless / DC 30 / Re: C30 Transformers? on: January 25, 2008, 01:56:53 AM
I have A/B my DC30 against two Star amps (Mark Sampson)...a Sirius 15w and a GainStar 30w, all using the same speakers- which were a Cornford 2x12 and the Star 15w combo with a modified V30.

I'm not sure what trannies R in those but seeing as he was 'Mr Matchless' I'm guessing they'll be similar quality.

The ceriatone C30 sounded every bit as good as those really really expensive amps, it did of course sound a little different, but the fussy ears present all agreed that it stood up against the Stars.

thanks guys...

It's going into an Amwatts cab with 2 x 12in Mojo's.  I think they're a V30 clone but seem to be little harsh or brittle in the top end for me.  There wasn't much thought that went into that recording, if I experiment a little more I can pull much nicer sounds than that.

The reverb was added at the mixing stage.  My champ has excess hum in it at moment but once that's dealt with I might do a dry recording and go through the tremolo, eq, and crank it and then with some pedals in one recording.  Great little amp!

Just some doodling.

This was my Strat plugged straight into the EF86 side, volume on 7, tone 1st pos, cut at 3 O’clock, half power, and Master volume on about ‘half of one’, poor thing was almost idling.

This is a Tele with Tonerider pups straight into the 1st channel.  Vol on less than 1, Bass on 6, Treble on 4.  Master vol bypass, half power engaged.  Starts on Bridge position, then middle and then neck.  I added a little delay after it was recorded.

And this corny country lick:

So...I was thinking in the vein of Muchle$$ - how about the HotBox pedal?

Or, BadCat 2-tone or X-Treme tone pedals?

I'd snap up anything BadCat, like a little 15w HotCat.

The DC30 sounds like the one for you but you will still need a crunch pedal in front to get the recto type sounds you want.  Anything by MI Audio ie TubeZone, Radial ToneBone...etc.  The clean ch is way too clean for overdrive pedals but the EF86 ch is great.  And, you'll need a good quality a/b/y pedal

Be prepared to go above $800us though.  You're looking at about $1,000.

If price is an issue look at the Lightning amp.  It will be twice the volume as the Laney even though it's 15w.  My DC30 is louder than my old 50w Laney.  Whack ToneBone or TubeZone in front of that and you'll have a wide variety of sounds.

29  Muchless / DC 30 / Re: Mallory or Sprague PS? Or Auricap? on: December 26, 2007, 02:01:27 PM
I would be shocked if you notice any difference in tone between the good quality brands of caps.

Basically they either work or they don't.

You should consider the 5e3 (tweed deluxe) or the Super.  I've got the little bf champ and it's fat and round...with some pedals it rocks nicely too.
