American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Re: .01uF 3kV cap on the rec tube
|

In conjunction with the diodes, the cap helps to protect the tube recto, when used with standby switch Not needed for 5Y3s usually, it's GZ34s thats a concern. Would be good to have. Many people like to stick GZ34s anywhere they can.... Thanks! Nik

KLDguitar,
1 more spam for you and definitely you will get it.
Stick to selling LEDs, honestly.
Until you can do acceptable quality, dont spam people.
I know exactly whats inside your kit/amp. Honestly, when we first started out, our quality was already better than that.
Not to be arrogant, but I view spammers lower than rats. Are you a Chinese rat?

Tom
It'd be good to post gut shot pics.
Plus, it'd be good to email directly as well.
If you bought from me, then you know I reply to emails in just a few hrs.
So thats the best way to ask.
Honestly, for important or business questions, i do not get why ppl post in forum, or use facebook chat, YM, ICQ, or the likes?
Email would be best, and you'd get the answer in a short while...
Thanks!

Hi
Thanks for the suggestion
I'll take a look at it but if the value is low, then indeed it's a bit hard for us to sell. Part of the motivation and, also strategy, is to go for the bigger valued ones.
I guess the preamp is solid state on this one?
Thanks!

Hi there achim, pickmeister As for the HRM tonestack mod, since people are curious, you can indeed put one and make a switch for it. This most likely means a floating cap at the switch. You'd notice loss when it's engaged, but if it's your thing, then it's good. Thanks! nik

British Style / JTM 45, 50 / Re: Noisy presence and treble, any ideas???

Hi
This is an old post, but I should reply so that ppl can refer to in the future:
a) When doing Marshalls, ALWAYS have the shield (alum, etc) thats on the bottom of the cab.
ie, when you test it out the chassis, do expect the treble and presence to be noisy. To avoid this, go to the kitchen, (ask mom first) and get a metal tray. You can then put it on the chassis (circuit side up) to simulate the shield.
b) The presence pot (5K with the single cap) will have DC on the pot, and you'd get the swoosh sound if you turn it. This is normal. Even the 8000 bucks vintage sample will do it. You can do like the later marshall, ie the pot with cap and resistor, and it wont do this anymore. But it does change tone a bit (you might not even notice it, or even like it). See some of my layouts for this difference.
Thanks!

hey man, thats very cool, glad to hear you're still loving it.
As for ghosting, it happens indeed. it's a trade off, I guess, between stiffer filtering, and lower. The tone does change, if you tweak the filters but i guess it's a matter of balancing both.
Thanks!

Website, Store / Ceriatone.com / Re: Parts used in Ceriatone: Explained
|

Dave, It's not the same, I think. It's a bit harder to quantify sound and feel. Plus, those involved in racing or building engines would be fairly involved in the trade. It is common for a driver to know the engine pretty well, too. In the music industry, the player can know zilch abt the amp, and still play, ie it's not a requirement nor norm to be well versed with the innards. The casual musician (there's no casual engine guy, for eg ) would probably just rely on adverts or what they see written. Thanks! Nik

Hi, It's available as a kit. Anything is available as a kit. As proven time and again, saying no is very hard than saying yes So the AFD is available as a kit. I think I will make the chupa and yeti available as well. Thanks! Nik Question for Nik. Or anyone else who knows.......
AFD was announced after the 'no kits' announcement. Yet there is pricing for Pack 1 and Pack 2. What are these if not the old packs 1 and 2, (i.e. 1 = all the parts w/o trannies, 2 = all the parts incl trannies, neither assembled) Packs 3 and 4 are for assembled chassis' with and w/o trannies.

Hi Yes, avoid placing against wall. Lots of ppl seems to do this. Now you see why we have the top vents for our marshall cabs. Placing against the wall is part of the look, and I aint messin with tellin people not to ! Thanks! Nik

Muchless / DC 30 / Re: Standby Switch wiring on DZ30 layout circa 2010

Bluto
This wasnt in original DC30 and nor would be the diode protection on the GZ34.
You can eliminate the resistor on the stdby switch. This was done when I was updating for the GZ34.
The resistor is part of DC protect for the switch, it's not needed
And, indeed, when in stdby, you do have abt 60-70V in the amp, which would make it play still altho very low vol.
So you can eliminate it.
Thanks!

Thats cool, thanks guys. Talkin abt iron, we usually use Hakko. Forgot the model name but its not that pricey. Usually, they'd last 2 years or so, and thats with heavy daily use (8 hrs a day). Be sure, if you use regularly to change the tip when necessary. Dont be stingy with that Thanks! nik
