Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Great speaker for HRM

Arguably the best speaker for D style amps is FANE AXA 12 alnico. 100W, 101db. Sweet highs, awesome lows and mids. But you have to give them at least 40 watt to open.
Here is the clip with FANE
Fanes are awesome but it seems like they may be out of business, Weber offers the AXA for about $200 and also the Crescendo which david gilmour uses. both are offered in alnico and ceramics, the alnicos costing more.

+1 we need another hiwatt in the lineup. The 400 watt hiwatts are over $8000US i believe, thats much more than a SVT which ive found for under $2000

Pull the amp out of the cab and take a look at all the components. Make sure you didnt burn a cap or resistor up. If everything checks out i would probably suspect the PT. Which in that case contact Nik, he will probably offer to ship a new PT over to you.
I havent heard of these amps blowing transformers that often so i would qualify 18 months for transformer life is too short and it probably had a defect

i have a 200pf ceramic for the treble cap, you may want to go a little higher (i play teles) the bass cap originally is .020 in my amp (not much different than the .022) the switch actually lowers the bass cap to around .009uf while also lowering the mid cap from .008 to .004uf. Basicly i was trying to achieve a low mid boost while also keeping the bass controlled and keeping the sound from being boomy or muddy.

im using a .008uf mid cap instead of the .022uf for more low mids. i also lowered the bass cap a little to keep it balanced. i raised the mid pot to a 100k from the 25K for more mids and a greater range. and lowered the treble cap a bit. IMO it sounds much better

what i would like to really see is a channel switching hiwatt, i love the cleans and the OD but you cant use an A/B box due to the huge volume jump there would need to be another master volume to control OD
Because the Hiwatt OD sound requires both preamp and power tubes working. Adding a Master Volume to turn down will lose all the power tube crunch and just give you buzzy, saturate preamp OD. Master Volume amps are designed around their preamp tone, vintage-style non-MV amps are all based around the sound of being cranked, which is power tube overdrive. You'll need either an attenuator or voltage regulation to drop that volume. General rule of thumb, you half the voltage for the dirty amp. If you have a 100-watt clean amp, you want to pair it with a 50-watt dirty amp if running a clean/dirty setup with balanced output. That's why amps like the Carr and Toneking turn off two power tubes in OD mode. Im goin to have to disagree with you man. yes part of the sound comes from the power tubes being overdriven but my Hiwatt doesnt sound thin or buzzy with the preamp gain all the way up and the master at tolerable levels

my 80's Hiwatt has tons of clean headroom but if you turn the preamp gain up it screams, JCM800 gain territory. It's only a 50 watt and this thing is LOUD!
I think Nik needs to make a "Lucky 7" type amp. About 7 watts with a large amount of clean headroom available but with alot of gain available too

thanks i have to agree the tonestack does "clamp" the sound as all tonestacks do since they reduce gain. Im building an ODS (not ceriatone though i do have a non-HRM OTS and love it) and i think i have solved the PAB volume difference by making the tone stack more efficient so it doesnt take away as much gain. so you dont actually have to make the PAB volume lower because the volume between the two are closer. the tonestack should only lose about 3dB of gain with my design. so the PAB should add about the same back when it's engaged

ive heard it. theres a long waiting list. I have a "Rumble MOD" by HAO and it sounds much better IMO. I use it with my OTS as it gives a much different flavor than the OD channel. The pedal is much cleaner and open sounding, and ALOT fatter. it blooms into feedback more easily but it's not great for chords.
Still nothing beats the real thing.
and i dont think this is the right forum to be posting this in

S&M's are nice but the normal OTS in my opinion is better. The S&M is brighter and more agressive on the OD channel and therefore isnt as good for switching on the fly. (you would need to adjust EQ) the OTS is more balanced between the two channels IMO and sounds warmer and smoother

gregor actually has an OTS S&M model i believe. He sold his dumble and bought a Fuchs, Ceriatone and a bludo tone.
