Funny how perception varry from one individual to another. To me the SwampThangs don't have honky mids and sound even a bit scooped compared to the G12-65 or ET65, probalbly due to the massive lows and powerfull highs. Both SwampThang and RWB sound great and smooth with overdrive but are definitely too dark for my taste. Tried them both again yesterday on my OTS and my Budda SD18 and still I prefer the ET65/G12-65 for the OTS and the G12H30 (anniversary) for the Budda.

I've had a Texas Heat a couple of years ago. Bought it originally for a Blues Junior. After a first good impression I found it quite uninspiring, dull and muffled both on the BJ and a Mesa F50, I didn't have an OTS at the time. Eventually sold it. The Swamp Thang I found far more interesting. This speaker is quite alive and dynamic and I used a pair in a 2x12 with the OTS for awhile. I eventually swapped them for an old G12-65 and a WGS ET65 because I found them still a bit dark but they are very punchy. I haven't sold those yet but it was my last attempt at Eminence speakers. I believe I'm more into Celestion tone and WGS seems to be quite close. Eminence do NOT sound like Celestion which is a good thing if you want another type of tone but not if you look at Celestion tone for cheaper (for US guitarists, in europe prices are about equivalent) I did a serie of comparison clips with my OTS and posted them there: http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=29.msg14149#msg14149Cheers Fabien

I use Eminence Swamp Thang. I actually use two of them in a 2x12 cab but they are rated at 150W so one can easily sustain a 100W head. I like them a tad more than a G12-65. To me they have some more sparkle. I've read somewhere that they could compare to some Fane but I wouldn't now for myself. Punchy, very balanced, clear warm clean, great OD. I've done some clips to compare: http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=29.msg14149#msg14149Alternatively you could consider an Eminence Red White & Blues. They're supposed to be close to a G12-65 and are the speakers installed by Fuchs in their ODS. I find mine a bit dull though, but not a bad speaker at all. At 120W, one should manage your amp. I'd like to chime in here.
The G-Major sounds great and has excellent possibilities. However I do have some reliability issues with it.
I've had a Gmajor 1 for 5 or 6 years (bought second hand) and after some years of running without a problem it started to show some weakness on the dual rotating controls up to a point where is was impossible to scroll through the menus. Beside that it started to freeze on me, needing a reboot. I tried to open it and secure the connections but it didn't help and I damaged some very fragile plastic clips in the process. That unit is now good for trash.
I replaced it with a G-major 2 (also 2nd hand) thinking that they should have fixed the problems by now. They had done so by replacing the dual rotating controls by single ones. Rotating speaker effect was a great addition too. And the PC software works well.
Unfortunately that one started to freeze too after only 6 month, quite rarely at first but lately some 3 times in a row, needing some not so gentle taps to resuscitate. Totally unreliable.
I might be the unlucky bastard of the lot but I'm done with TC stuff, got a 2nd hand Rocktron Xpression and hope not to have to look back.
The Xpression is an old technology, with far less parameters, a lousy pitch shifter, a very simple display and no PC software but it sounds as good as the G-major, feels much sturdier and hopefully, because of the old tech, will be more reliable on the long term (and short too). One other advantage of the Xpression on the TC is that controller assignments are patch dependent and not global so CC82 can be assigned to chorus on/off in a patch and leslie speed on another.
It's only my own experience and hopefully many other are happy with their unit, but I had to mention it.

This is true but in this setup, or any setup with Dumbleator the master will be set at about 5 or 6, more than that and you'll fry your FX. At this level the treble bleed still has an effect.
On a guitar the effect stops around 9.

It was a great gig indeed. Not only had Schofield a divine tone but his playing was very fluid and inventive. Nice to meet Steven_nl too and to be able to put a face on the name now. Yes, the guy's real, I met him! Cheers Fabien

Sorry to revive this old thread but I too had the feeling that my OTS 50 was a tad on the dark side.
At home it sounds perfect but with the band at rehearshal or gig it lacks a bit of sparkle and the treble and presence are already at around 8. By experience I know that my Boogie F50 sounds bright and harsh at home so I turn the treble down but at practice or gig I'm lost in the mix and I bring those treble back up and lower the bass.
So today I bought some 68pf and 47pf caps and tried them, with aligator clips to be able to swap them easily.
68 pf was too much especially on the OD that got to fuzzy.
47pf was much better. With the treble and presence back to 6, the clean channel is chimier and by turning down the tone on the guitar I can get close to the tone without the cap. The OD channel gets a little edgier, somewhat more aggressive, the picking more so than the sustain. Overall the amp sounds a bit less mid heavy.
So I soldered the 47pf in the amp and closed it back. Let's see what it does at band practice. I might have a push pull MV pot put in there for more flexibility if I like the tone.
I use a 2x12 cab with Emi Swamp Thangs and those speakers aren't very bright but well balanced and open, I like those very much. As a comparison, playing on the G12-65 I used to bring the treble from 8 back to 6, and even lower with the Emi Tonker. The amp might be too bright for those now. Haven't tried yet.

Thanks Fabien for your kind comments. I don’t have PAB in my amps. I hate it, it’s thin and middly, kills amps good tone. Instead I have a clean volume boost which also affects OD. I can set the desired amount with a pot which is sitting in the FET input hall (I don’t have FET either). See amp’s photo in this thread. For my taste clean boost is much better and flexible then a PAB.
True, now that you mention it I had read it already somewhere in one of your post. Funny that the PAB sounds thin on your amp. On mine (non HRM) it's very warm on the clean channel and could even get muddy on OD if I'm not careful. I think your amp has evolved to be a very different animal with all your wizzardry. An electronic Darwinisme of some sort perhaps? All for the good anyway

Erwin's clip sounds incredibly good!
But bad for GAS! Feels like I want another OTS!
The playing is stellar too. Erwin is an excellent gitarist and a great instructor. I know that for fact: he's desperately trying to teach me some twice a month for 5+ years!
And he put me on that OTS fever too!

My question is: Is there any rack fx that has a footswitch and tap tempo? if there is, let me know!
On my TC G-Major, and I guess on any other modern (MIDI) rack fx, you can assign a CC to the tap tempo so you can control it with any MIDI controler. TC had a compact controller called the G-minor, a round 3 button midi controller mith a dual mode giving you 3 freely assignable functions on three buttons in addition to pgm up and down but it's out of production now. Enjoy your new amp, it's a great beats! Cheers Fabien
