Other than the Allston company near Boston using a G12T75 in their Dumbalina combo, G12T75 are not favored speakers with Dumble players. They are the perfect speakers to get lost in the stage mix: boomy bass, scooped mids and icepick treble!

Did somebody tried this: installing a Hall VVR into the Big Deluxe to get those tweed tones at lower volume? Thanks  Smiley

Yes he was using them and the Marshall when I saw him last summer in Montreux Jazz Festival.

Howdy, I saw Renegade Creation at the Sellersville Theatre and Ford was running from a pedal board straight into the tan Dumble and it was superb. I have an HRM 100 watt and I find it very bright. I would love to tone that aspect way down and avoid using any lator type thing. Are some of these mods posted here? Thanks.

There is one Ceriatone Dumble clone which is supposed to be not too bright, that's the regular OTS, but it looks like everybody is buying the brighter ones (S&M, HRM and FM50)...? I tend to like bright guitars but I hate bright amps.

Brian

Happy New Year!

Thats cool man!

As for the FM50, I quite like it. Some find it a bit bright, I guess.

I had a local guy who bought it, and we tweaked it a bit to his liking. Pretty much simple stuff that's done all the time:

a) lower bright cap on the MV
b) 3 way bright cap on the bright switch (68, none, 120pf)

c) 100K slope, 0.001uf treble (instead of 0.0022uf)

d) Switch for the LNFB (local neg feedback loop)

e) Lower bright caps for the Clator as well

f) i also changed the 22m resistors on the PAB relay to 10m.

I guess, my ears are a bit gone, since I dont find the amp that bright?

But then again, I realize that there are people who like it darker (kinda dark for my usual preference), and smoother.

Well, just sayin the mods, if you need it to be less bright, are easy to do.

The switch for LNFB is also always a nice feature to have, IMHO.

The Clator would be nice to have, for sure, but it's not a requirement.

This amp reminds me of the S%M, but less bright.  Its got bite for sure, on the OD.

Thanks!

nik

So if this amp is too bright, why not just get the regular OTS where all the brightness has been tamed by the Scott Lerner mods?

Please show some interest guys, I mean he's probably the only folk in here who owns that amp, an amp that is supposed to be a clone of one of the best amp in history, and nobody give a damn' shit! It's not only that this post is not getting replies but it's not even read  Huh?

That's the one I'm interested. Please post clips, even better with a strat or tele. Thanks
12  Tw Clones / Expression / Re: Express clone question on: December 28, 2010, 01:08:32 AM
There must be a way to make smaller amps sound big enough as long as it is not an ultra low wattage single-ended amp it should not sound too small and boxy.
I believe it's what Dana Hall is making.

On the Amp Garage, some folks seem to enjoy a lower wattage Express built by Dana Hall...

Tonic amps are too expensive for me, only Ceriatone got the right price.

Our Express is pretty loud when it attains that much saturation. But, I believe the Vapour is a 2 x 6V6 chassis. I have never tried a pair of 6V6 in our Express. I have only heard it with EL34 power tubes.
Even a 5 watt amp is "loud" when it is turned up. I guess it all depends on what your noise issues are. Do you play in an apartment, is that your concern?
Honestly, if loudness is a problem, I would not not get an Express, I would build a much smaller amp. I think the whole Train Wreck mystique is a little over blown.
Good Luck

So you're saying that the Expression cannot sound good with any kind of attenuation...?

My basic use will be for rehearsals and gigs, but of course being able to play it at home too is a +.

15  Tw Clones / Expression / Express clone question on: December 27, 2010, 03:11:07 AM
Is a regular Ceriatone Expression able to get tones as great as those:http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9925235 To me that's the way it should sound. Of course the amp will need some kind of attenuation to get this level of saturation without playing freakin' loud!

Which kind of attenuation is the best for the Expression?  external power attenuator or internal Hall VVR??
