It's easy to get sidetracked into spending too much time messing with gear to the detriment of one's guitar playing skills.

As much as I enjoyed building my OTS, and had the skills to do it, I realized I should have just ordered a pre-built. In my case, I have a limited amount of time to devote to musical pursuits, so I'd prefer to spend that time actually playing music than messing with gear........

There's got to be something wrong with your amp, either construction error, faulty component or improperly adjusted bias. Not something some mods are going to fix. Did you make it yourself?

I assume you're asking me...

I have 2 cabs, One with a Celestion Gold and the other with a Jensen P15N. Both AlNiCo.The Gold is my favorite, but together they complement each other nicely. Surprisingly the 12 inch Gold has more low end to it than the 15 inch Jensen.
 I am using just the amps effects loop(No C or K-lator) with a Strymon Reverb, and no other pedals.

  Power Tubes: TAD 6L6WGC

i wonder what percentage of OTS series owners are using their amps with modifications or without.
Already posted about this, but maybe it needs a poll. 
The OTS by itself seems to me to be highly versatile and gorgeous sounding as it is.  I've got no reason to mess with mods. Maybe it's because I'm not trying to sound like someone else.

I built my OTS 50 about a year ago now, and after initial setup have not taken that chassis out of the cab since.
Every guitar I have; Tele, Strat, Gibson's and Guilds sound great through this amp.
The only tweaks required are on the front panel IMO.

Nice playing from JM, but I don't think there's anything particularly unique about the tone/sound. Playing a strat wiith fingers through any decent tube amp will do that.

There are internal controls for OD, the PI, power tube bias. Do a search for discussions about this.
The Robben Ford sound is not something i aspire to imitate, so I can't help you there...

I suppose it could also be a matter of the internal settings as well. 
The master  controls the overall volume and has little to do with the OD sound; if it's too loud, turn down the master volume.
The first Volume on the left affects the amount of OD you get as well as the Overdrive level control, they're interactive, and the Ratio controls the balance between the clean and overdrive. If the first volume control is set too low you might not get much overdrive.

My setup: Gibson Les Paul Standard into normal input, Volume set from 5-8, Bright and Deep switches off, Rock/Jazz switch set to Rock.
Treble at 4, Middle -3 Bass 1.5 -2 Overdrive level anywhere from 2 -10 depending on how much i want. Overdrive Ratio around 5. I don't use a K/C-lator. Reverb pedal in FX loop. then i use the master volume to set the overall loudness; I get good sounding overdrive at any volume from a whisper to a roar.

If you can't get a good OD sound out of your  amp at low volumes; either there is something wrong with it or you have not learned how to use it....

IMHO I don't think it's necessary, not everyone wants to emulate the Robben Ford sound, the amp sounds great without it. I'm running an OTS without C/D-lator, though I have a very simple FX setup; a  Strymon Blue Sky Reverb pedal. No degradation of amp sound quality here....

This is a coincidence; I've just had an additional cab made by TheCabGuy for a 15", with a converter ring for a 12". It just arrived today. I've bought a Jensen P15N(alnico) for it.   I find that almost any speaker needs a break-in period before it loosens up; they always sound a bit edgy when new, so I'm not sure an opinion is warranted quite yet. I does seem to have smoothened out a bit after I've been playing through it for a couple of hours this afternoon.
  My other cab has a Celestion Gold that I'm very happy with. At this point the Gold has more low end to it than the Jensen. I'm thinking once it 's broken in this will even out a lot.
I'm really liking the 2 cabinet thing, even with them side by side there's a noticable stereo space effect with the 2 speakers having significantly different sounds.

My favorite is my Les Paul Standard, I also have a 61 reissue SG, and an ES-135LE. The OTS is very good for bringing out the individual character of almost any guitar, and making in shine.
The ES135LE (The LE edition has humbuckers, 57 classics) and can usually be bought used on Ebay for $800 - $900.
I think this is one of the best deals on a Gibson guitar going - this guitar sounds very good through my OTS.

It's simple! Use the ratio control to set the balance between the clean channel and OD. These dumble clone amps are unique in the way this works. It's interactive, if the OD sound is too loud compared to clean turn down the ratio and use the master to set  the overall volume. The volume control will also affect the amount of OD you get.
