A friend of mine bought over an old Mullard yesterday and we put it in V1 in my HRM50.

All I can say is Mullard ECC83s in V1 = WINNER.

It smoothed out everything and had the best warm tone in both clean & lead.

I have yet to try JJ preamp tubes but have used a quad of pwr tubes B 4 and I have no complaints. I'll have to try some ecc83s soon.

I finally tried a few different Amperex Ecc83's in my D-lator. They were tested, NIB never used. I got em on a trade for a pedal. I also tried them in all positions in my BM and settled on 1 in the PI, 1 in the D-lator. I've yet to adjust the PI trimmer so I can only imagine Bloom will be even more apparent.

hi guys further my previous posts..... (HRM50 with 3 mullard reissues) i recently was servicing an amp for someone which had SOVTEK 12ax7WA tubes.... well he wanted the tubes changed.... so i took the liberty of trying the sovteks on the HRM50.

after a bit of experimentation i have now settled on the Sovtek in V1 and mullards for v2 and v3. the amp has little less gain but more "open" especially with a strat or firebird.......even at higher levels of gain in the overdrive channel, these guitars ring true and sound excellent.

i will stay with this config (for now as it seems to give the best overall tone and clarity and warmth)

there is a Sovtec 12ax7 LPS available (long plate version) which i am yet to try, and may do so when i get one.


the tone and overall warmth and clarity is great on either channel with this current valve complement.

 
 I think all D-style (and a bunch of other style amps)  can be quite bassy with the EV-12L (IMO) My Bluesmaster is quite bassy (Rattling shit around the cab also) and I run 2 Ev's in a ported cab. . You just have to EQ your amp different @ home or when practicing. AT gigs (When the volume levels are really loud!) my amps cuts through the mix very nicely and I don't notice the predominant bass levels. Ev's are the only speaker that produce these huge lows that dumble style amps can dish out. I would not worry about it, your amp is fine.

I would recommend Tung-sol's too but I've had too many fail on me in the past few weeks that its not worth it anymore. I do agree although that they sound great and I haven't found a tube that rivals with them, however the RI Mullard ECC83's sound F 'in great to my ears. JJ's can be stiff but they're very resilient consistent and longevity is not an issue with them, however they can be quite sterile sounding IMO.
