Hi Guys,

I'm not an amp expert or an electrician, I just know good tone... hence why I bought a HRM OTS 50 combo.

For some reason the treble knob when turned is not affecting the sound at all, and the amp itself is sounding very muddy, I therefore believe there is no treble in the EQ currently. The only way i can get a treble sound is by pulling out the bright knob.

Am I going to have to take this apart? Have any of you had a similar experience? Was it easy to resolve? Or have I just flipped a switch I shouldn't have?!

Many thanks,

Joe

The first thing that comes to mind is that you have the PAB engaged which will take the tone stack out of the equataion. Do you have a footswich connected? if not, how is the switches on the back panel set?

That would be my guess too.
If I dont have the footswitch connected the PAB switch is opposite to what you think it should be

The treble has no effect when you use the PAB. PAB bypasses the tone stack so neither treble, bass or mid pot will work with it engaged. If you have OD switched on the tone stack ( HRM ) knobs are located inside the amp on a circuit board!.

True, and if you are going thru both tonestacks (PAB not engaged) it can be kinda muddy.

Also, was this built as a kit or by Ceriatone? Has anyone owned it previously or could've messed with the internal TMB trimmers?

Hi all,

Right, the PAB switch is set to 'pedal' and the PAB boost is definitely off on the pedal but i'm still having the same issue. The bass and middle adjusts fine, but there is no treble.

I'ts a Ceriatone in house build delivered only 2 months ago. 50 HRM version.

It's going to involve a screwdriver this isn't it?!  Huh?

Cheers

Yes, it does seem that something is wrong. If you have no electronic or amp experience I'm thinking taking it to a tech is in order. If it's only 2 months old it should be under warranty. Have you contacted Nik yet?

Do you have any soldering skills? If so, you could start by reflowing the connections around the treble pot and connections associated with it. Also just take a look around for any glaring soldering issues. Download the layout from the Ceriatone site and trace the circuit based on the layout.

Cheers, will contact Nik. I'm no expert with anything like that, however my Dad's pretty good with this sort of thing, I'll take it and the circuit diagrams down to him next weekend.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Before your dad messes with it make sure he knows about the safety issues - discharging capacitors, the 400v's coming from the transformers if you forget and leave it plugged in, etc. Working on amps isn't the same as fixing a radio or something.
