For a single 12 application, I've had the G12-65 side by side with an EVM12L and the EV sounded better hands down to me. The 65 sounded fine....before comparing it.

Tonespotters work well in general with D type amps, but the Overtone seems to really love the EVM even more so than other D amps I've used.

I agree - the EVM-12L is my preferred speaker also. I compared it with Celestion greenback, vintage 30, and classic lead 80, Eminence Red Fang, Mesa Boogie's black shadow.

The cleans and OD from the EVM are stellar.

Yep- that's the one- though I recently lucked out and got 4 x G12-65's very cheaply second hand for £22.50 each (date codes say 1979 Shocked

) via eBay- I've just wired 'em up tonight into my old 1969 Marshall 4x12 & lit the fuse on the Overtone and stood well back! Truth is I'm still replacing the ornaments that flew off the wall - Glorious! Chair Dance

Moral: Well worth scouting around second hand for originals - the new one's are around £68+P&P each...

Has anyone tried the Celestion Neodynium G12 Century Vintage speakers?

Any thoughts on how they'd sound in a 2x12" with the Overtone?

I have a JBL E120 that I've used in many combo amps I've had for that past 13 years or so. I think I'm going to put that in a 1 12 cab and see how it goes. I wonder if anybody else has tried this speaker out with the OTS. I think I'm gonna want a ported 1 12 cab. I'm also curious what folks here are using for their cabinet of choice in a 1 12 format.

Thanks to Gbergl and fullerplast I tried an EVM-12L. Grin

It is great as a 1 x 12. Space was an issue for me so this served my purpose and it is full sounding. The g12-65 is nice but not as versatile..

The EVM .....What a speaker too! Built like a tank.......

I'm so glad I came across this speaker.
