As some of you know I sold my bluesmaster for a FM ME.

so i got it and...........................

and i fixed the clator and........................

and I used NOS tubes and................................

and I got a Two Rock 2x12 cab and...........................

Well one by one,

this amp definately is giviing me the "sounds in my head" thing. I love Carlton, Ford, Santana and it can give me all of these. Traditional dumble sounds, unlike the bluesmaster which seems to be firmly rooted in Fender Blackface/ Marshall territory. The cleans are wondeful and warm and can be pushed to Carlton like sizzle. The overdrive is much smoother and complex.

the c-lator is fixed (it was a tube issue) and adds so much more complexity and tone to the sounds and makes the amp so much more controllable.

im using NOS tubes and I am a believer. I got a pair of Sylvania Mesa STRs and the preamp has a Jan GE12ax7wa in 1, a RCA 12ax7a in 2 and a stock electroharmonix in 3. These tubes were ABed with a set of JJs all round. What a difference! The NOS tubes sounded rich and harmonic, warm and full of tone. The JJs sounded dark and lifeless and dare I say clinical.

the two rock cab is amazing! It sounds huge, Dumble really knew what he was doing here with the design. It is full of life and really moves some air (it sounds as big as a quad). There spread of sound is really incredible and the speakers love the amp, great tone, really musical as opposed to the way Evs can sound clinical IMHO.

The friend who I tested all this with is a confirmed boogie nut (he owns 2 2C+s and a Mk IV). We ABed the OTS with one of his Mesa 2C+s and while there were some differences, I was amazed at the similarities. He was blown away by my OTS (he also owns a Ceriatone JTM50 so he knows Niks work and quality). The OTS could go places sonically that his 2C+ couldnt (and vice versa). He ended saying that it sounded awesome. He was really impressed.

All in all, ive never been this happy with a set up. It really is an awesome thing when an amp gives you what you hear in your head. Now the weak link in this musical chain is....................me! Lol.

That's just plain awesome!  I know what you mean to dial an amp in from what is stuffed into the cab back to the input jack.  have done that with 50w HRM and 50w OTS.  Gonna get to do it all over again when the SSS arrives with no tubes in it by my request...

There is a lot of herd following on the EV thang as well as the Celestion g12-65.  Great speakers for sure, but I have other preferences.  Keep working on your VOS tube collection.  Niiiiice!

Thanks mate, as i said, ive never been this happy with setup and sound. Re the speakers, didnt dumble use an eminence of some description? Anyway the wgs and eminence that come standard in the two rock box are just the right mix of warmth and articulation.

Btw im now gassin for a SSS, those cleans are somethin else, almost 3 dimensional!

There are two fave speaker types of his in his cabs in the thread about the HAD modded Primceton head thread at TAG.   It sits on a pair of 2/12's. one with JBL D120f and Altec 417 b or c model cabs. Those are both very wide range, big diameter VC, like 3 inches, have great cone control with both of those Jim Lansing designs.  Lansing was in a league with HAD, he was the speaker genius of all time IMHO.  I prefer his later designs, the JBL MI-12 and g125 are my fave d-clone speakers in 12, and the MI-15 and g135 are my choices in 15's.  The MI series is particularly nice because they are not heavy speakers, great for my (getting older) back.  And they sound just plain wonderful in 12 or 15.
