Stock value was 270 pf followed by 330 pf (that's what's in my amp currently) now I see guys using 390 pf. What would I gain by changing from 330 to 390? Is it worth the effort?

I use 470 pf - lik two rock amps - is it worth the effort ?? hmmm, Its more a matte of taste, the snubbers dampen the highs in the OD channel.

If you like sound as is, then dont change a thing.

If think you got a bit too much top, then increase the snubbers.

No matter what, it very small change, that you might not even hear !! Smiley

Thank you for the reply, I think I'm going to leave well enough alone for now.

I recently did my last mod on the overtone: changing the snubber caps from 270pF to 330pF. I did this mod seperate from the rest of the "Zucker"mods.
There is a difference as bluesfendermanblues pointed out; I actually could hear the difference. :Smiley
The tone setting for clean and OD are more balanced in my opninion with upping the snubbers. But as all mods; it's a matter of taste...

Guys-

I found upping the snubber caps to 330pf definitely smoothed out the OD channel- however, I could only get Wima's at that value from my local electrical store- I'm assuming they're poly-propylene (pardon my ignorance) - ceramic's are the stock caps's I removed...

any opinions on ceramic vs poly-propylene tone/reliability etc...etc...?

Good question, I'm interested to hear what those in the know have to say.

The Dumble diehards wil tell you, that ceramic are very important......

but, seriously the sound is not exactly passing through the cap, some of the top frequencies are passed to ground, so you should be fine with polyprop. However, if you ask a Dumble diehard they will tell you that ceramic is the way to go, but as always trust your own ears, if it sounds good you, then its fine, right?

Please excuse the quite basic question, but how do the snubber caps affect the clean tone if at all??

The snubber caps don't affect the clean tone. The snubber caps are located on tube v2a and v2b(od stage).
However the tonestack is affecting the clean and od. If you got a nice clean sound, the last thing you want do is reset your tone setting when switching to od.
