Hello everyone,

Just bought a cheap external microphone for my camcorder and tried to record my 50 watter before my new 100 Watt OTS arrives this week.
I’ll tweak it, dress it up and do a nice demo.

Part 1.

Part 2.

Seems to be capturing the sound well Doc, what make is it?. I bought a Rode SVM for my DSLR in order to try and record my band but the camera has no means of adjusting the level, its always on automatic so I do get some clipping unfortunately. It does seem as though your camcorder is doing a good job with the levels, does it have a manual level setting?

Doc are you sure you want to replace this amp.
I would not do that,... it sounds wonderful.

Thanks my friend, it still does not do justice how amp sounds in the room but I've tried anyway.

Hi Hywel,
It is just an ordinary dynamic mic from Adam Hall UK http://www.adamhall.com/uk/AH_p--project_27__b--D1001S
I’ve created little attenuator with 1k logarithmic pot works great for mic also you can use it for line out signal from the mixer. Here is a diagram.

For stereo you need double pot and stereo mini jack.
Cheers

Erwin thanks mate, This amp is S&M and incoming one is an OTS. I wonder how it will take the tweaks.

Mcinku my man, Thanks.
It is my first love! I hope I’ll keep it.

Thanks Doc, but input level isn't my problem, and indeed that mic I mentioned has a -10dB pad on it. No, its the automatic gain control on the camera thats the problem, as soon as the level dips, it jacks up the gain.  I know some have experimented with a very high (inaudible) frequency feed patched into the line that fools the AGC when no additional signal is present. I am waiting for a firmware u/g on the camera which I hope will have a level control, failing that I will have to investigate further.

Yep,
My camera has exactly the same AGC and this device fools it nicely.
Here I’m using it to record from the desk in stereo (dual 1k pot)
Enjoy

Hi Pickmaster, great playing and sound on those two 50 watt clips. Is the ratio control set to 8 on the amp, I cannot set mine to more than 2 or it will deafen me. Great playing.

Thanks Riverman,
Yes, it's on 7, to match clean boost channel's level.

Huh? I was in the presumption you modded your amp more towards a bluesmaster.
Lower slope resistor etc.

That’s right, on V1 - 56k on slope with a switch goes to 150k and also another switch changes a 220k plate resistor to 150k. Lots of combinations.
My favourite is 220k plate and 56k slope.
I’m crazy perfectionist, I tweak all the time.
