Nice Nice Nice - this is only one of the MANY MANY tones you can get. It can get  very nasty vintage tones for those who like good ol hard rock.

I'm in the process of building my own and I just want to say the first sound clip sounded real, real nice. The plying was excellent, no apology necessary.

As for the loop, it will  depend on the effects... some will work
fine, some will not, as it's just a basic loop.

Sounds great and nice playing man.  Cool vid.  Yep, those are the tones I'm getting with mine...very pleasing.  Once I get done and satisfied with the mods I'm doing I will post some clips.  You have some other nice "hardware" I see.   Overtone sitting on the Fuchs.....had a chuckle.  Lovely angels, too.

I should have my Overtone in a few weeks... With my second Suhr coming up in the end of January/February, it should be quite a start for this new year.. :D After it my GAS will cool down for a while (and I should add.... a long while).

You still waiting for the Overtone??  The mods are in line with some of the mods being done to the D'lite.  Basically, just bringing some of the components back to typically accepted Dumble values.  I've been hampered with my parts supplier taking three weeks off but he's back to work so I'm putting in an order today.

  I would just get the amp as is and mod it to your taste later.  I really does sound pretty damned good as is.  But for interest sake I will make a mod thread soon once I experiment a little more with the Overtone and D'Lite.

Another great clip.  I like both but I think I prefer the first clips meatiness slightly.  However, that controlled feedback on the second clip is stellar.

Pedals are great with the Overtone but to be honest the OD is so good that all my dirt pedals have been in sleep mode..lol....still on the board but idle.  DD20 in the loop is all I need with this amp.  Remember everyone if you use the loop...patch length cables only and don't load the loop with effects.

How about some clips of the clean channel?

What do you guys use.  1 x g12-65 or a cab with 2 x g12-65.

Not sure what to go for.

Hey...thanks for sharing the clips!!!  I like the mids that the Anderson adds versus the Strat.  Other than more gain, how different were the amp settings?  Also, have you played with the internal trim pots yet?

When I heard the recording, I did notice that it had a bit more gain than what I was hearing in the room. I am new with the amp and cab and I still need to put into relation what I am hearing and what the mike is picking up (I hate playing with headphones). I left the "boost" on because it didn't sound thick enough to me. After hearing the recording, perhaps I could have left it out, or backed off the gain.

I had a bad tube when it arrived which I had replaced with another bad tube (my luck!). Now I have a good one and the OD of the amp just came together, so I am enjoying that part now.

Hey, it part of the fun discovering the various tones. I have had some busy weeks lately so I have spent maybe 10 hours total with the (most of its on Youtube!).

Please tell me your Overtone is stock (no mods) and you didn't use anything but cable to achieve this sound.

Only cable between guitar and amp.

Thanks - once again! Very nice clips and tasteful playing from both of you Marin and Sami  8). That clean clip was really something "fresh point of view" to this amp. Almost everybody seem to be hunting something Robben Ford or/and Larry Carlton tones from this amp. My humble opinion (which is based only listening those enjoyable clips -LOL) is that this amp can do very different and good sounds and rest is in your fingers and brains. Is that inside OD-trimmer difficult to tweak? Do you have to take chassis out of cabinet before trimming it? I rather sure my Vox AC30 CC2X gotta go... I NEED something else - guess what  ;) ;)

I think the goal is to reduce the hi-end a little bit. The cable with its capacitance acts as a filter.

I read somewhere Robben Ford is using the same trick.

Tele is Haar custom '52 with suhr pickups, strato is Suhr Henderson Classic
and gibson is "lucille".

I have Suhr pickups in my Strat too. Its interesting how different our tones are. Just shows the versatility of the amp.

What are the Haar guitars like? Are they at a Suhr level?

Interestingly enough, I am not thrilled with the tone of my other Strat with Suhr pickups. There seems to be an intereference between the OD frequencies of the amp and the pickup resonant frequencies. With clean tones, it sounds ok.

I need to experiment a bit further....

Tested the overtone with a strat with lindy fralin vintage hot, beautiful!

Awesome clips one and all! This amp really sounds awesome with single coils. I play mostly telecasters and an occasional strat. Just got a 5E3 and I think this would make a great and complementary companion. It's next on my list.

Okay, so you put the patch cable in the effects loop...I've been reading about that...did it tame the highs on the overdrive?

Also, would you consider sharing your backing tracks so I can post some clips here as well?    thanks...You're responsible for me getting this amp.  I love your playing!

I'm running the amp clean with an overdrive pedal....it sounds great that way, but the overdrive in the amp itself is very rough and buzzy sounding....It's very frustrating because Sami and Marin are getting the perfect tones that I want out of mine!!!!

I tried the patch cable in the effects loop...i notice a tiny bit of highs diminished, but really does nothing to smooth out the roughness.

have you checked the pre-amp tubes as I suggested? try changing them with one you know is good?

Try disengaging the PAB, turn off the "deep" and "bright" switch. Keep the "Volume" and "Overdrive" know below 5, lower the volume on your guitar (what pickups are you using?).

What speaker are you using?

If you don't want to mod the amp it self, like Marin said, tubes, speaker and pickups are the things you can tweak.

that particular pedal is a reverend drivetrain II....they don't make them any more, but it is my favorite pedal of all time!!!!  another great one is the xotic bb preamp....it can do the dumble thing as well as a heavier plexi thing!!!!

i really want to get just the overtone to sound like that...if it were a bad preamp tube, wouldn't the clean sound funny, too?

this may be a silly question, but are there 12ax7 tubes that break up smoother than others?

You may try JJ tubes. They're smooth and slightly weaker than the Tungsols.

I haven´t been following this topic very much (and I´m too lazy to go back a few pages), but have you tried checking and adjusting the OD internal trimmer?

I have asked that question several times, and nobody has answered me....what exactly does it adjust, and could it smooth out the rough-edged overdrive?

I don't have mine yet, but this is a comment from an OTS owber:

 There are three internal trimmers inside the chassis. Two blue and one black with a whiter center. If you are looking into the chassis from the front of the amp, the BLUE trimmer on the far left (on a small board actually mounted on the left side of the chassis) is for the FET channel and Nik states that should be left "high" which is at least at 12:00 and that is how mine came set from the factory. (I haven't experimented with the FET input yet by the way) Moving to the right from the first BLUE trimmer, you'll discover another BLUE trimmer that is on the MAIN circuit board and is located just below and slightly to the left of the second pre amp tube socket (V2). This is the OD trimmer. It is very easy to adjust, (small slotted screwdriver will do) and mine came set (stock) from Nik at 9:00. (basically the slot was straight across) The OD trimmer has a HUGE impact on the tone, volume, and overall vibe of the OD channel. Set too low, (I found 9:00 o'clock too low for my ears/tastes) the OD channel sounds thin and anemic, (even with humbuckers), at volume levels that will get you invited back to many a gig, but the OD channel does seem to come to life a bit at that setting if in fact you do CRANK up the amp, but holy crap is it loud when you do that. Set too high, and the OD channel comes ROARING to life at pretty much any volume, but it VERY QUICKLY moves away from Dumblesque heaven and into Marshall mayhem in a big hurry. Don't get me wrong, the amp sounds great a pretty much any OD trimmer setting (VERY versatile) but it does take some time to dial in the OD channel using the OD trimmer, level, ratio, volume and master volume as well as tone contols set to taste obviously.

sounds very good marin...but i'm still hearing a little roughness in the tone sort of like what i've been experiencing...it's certainly a nice tone, just not quite what i was hoping for.  i'm going to try a different preamp tube in the overdrive section, and play around with the od trimmer. 

I really think that spm is nailing the tone that I want!!!

I think I understand what your problem may be....the overtone works better with some pickups than with others. The OT is voiced with a pronounced midrange (around 3,5khz, I hear) so some of my "midrange" pickups tends to interact somehow with the OD of the OT and can create that strong midrangey spike (or "roughness" as you may say),

I'm a "midrange" guy, so I actually like that. You seem to go for Sami's tone which is a little bit dark for me.

I think that you should try with a  PAF type pickup like a Gibson 57. 

Whats pickups are you using now? Have you tried another guitar?

You guys are putting up some nice clips.  I think we are all experiencing a little "extra sizzle" in this amp in it's original layout.  It is frustrating but keep in mind.....

I was in on one of the first Brownnote D'lite amp kits.  It is a great amp.... but in less than a year the D'lite community has tweaked the original layout into a circuit that is really nothing short of amazing but with a dramaticly different (improved) flavour than the stock version.  It's also important to remember that the changes are a result of only a few minor component swaps and not a complete overhaul in the design. 

 I think in due time the Overtone will evolve in a similar fashion.  As good as the amp is I feel the circuit has yet to reveal it's maximum potential.  It's still in its infancy so give it a bit of time for the tweakers to move toward getting the most out of the design.

Keep posting them clips.....I'll be down the basement at the work bench.

Yes, I've tried it with several different guitars....the first guitar I tried it with was a vintage style strat with vintage reissue pickups...the overdrive sounded horrible and i was very disappointed.  I kept an open mind and kept tweaking, and tried it with several other guitars.  The cleans sound great with all the guitars, but the overdrive really sounds best with humbuckers (in my opinion).  I am liking the amp more and more every day, but I think there could probably be a pretty simple and minor mod to the overdrive circuit that would give it that extra "something" that's missing.  I really think it has to do with taming the highs and accentuating  certain mid frequencies. 

Hell, what do I know?  I've been chasing the "perfect" tone for over 25 years, and have owned over 50 really nice amps and have really high expectations from anything based on a dumble design.

Just got mine.  This thing sounds pretty good right out of the box.

Guitar is a standard faded on bridge WCR goodwood.  Speaker is a single 8ohm greenback in homemade cab.  There's some EH holy grail reverb in there too.

My gear is mostly digital, so not much to compare to this other than my Zendrive through a few different amps.  The Zen got me the tonal qualities, but not the dynamics that this does.  It really is responsive, which you can probably hear much better on posts by players who have developed the finesse that make these sound the way they're known to.

I'm anxious to see what kinds of mods people do to the tone stack to make this a bit thicker/smoother, though the way it is now is very recognizable and worth preserving with a switch.

Damn right! Sounds great!  What sort of settings were you running for that - was it low volume?

Settings were:  5-DUD-338-51-33 no PAB, guitar knobs all 10

Low volume- the mic on my camcorder doesn't share the same sweetspot the amp does and distorts.  Amp still sounds nice at bedroom levels.

Maybe this weekend I'll make a real recording.  I've got a -65 on its way so curious to know if it sounds any different from the greenback.

sweet mother. that tone is heavenly. nice use of delay as well. your not using any other pedals in there are you? in any case how do you find it takes pedals? i read somewhere that dumbles are best used with pedals through some kind of buffer loop or something (im certainly no expert). also how do you guys find the cleans? seeing as though the circuit is derived from clean fender amps i would expect it to compete? big shimmery?!! that OD tone is incredible but i also need some cleans to lay some effects pedals over.

as in, can you switch from clean to lead on the fly, the amp is supposed to have a foot swich for that. (Nik told me mine was going to anyway, when it ever shows up)

you can switch between channels and boost each of the channels with the 2nd switch.

the pedal is a Boss DD-3. You can find a picture on the Boss website.

Marin...you're a badass!!!   Would you mind sharing that backing track?..I want to try to post some more clips this week.  I'm swapping out my OD drive tube.

Also, I've been curious how you are recording your video and audio?  Are you miking the amp and running it into a video/audio editing program?   All I've ever been able to do is record with my kodak digital camera in video mode...but It doesn't have any way to use anything other than the crappy built in mic for audio.  I have a little pro tools rig, but really no way to sync up video from a video camera.

I record audio from the soundcard and video from the camera by selecting different input sources in the video software. You can use Windows Movie Maker which some free with windows (if you use windows)

I know a guy who bought a glaswerks with EL34s. It's INCREDIBLY loud. Too loud for most clubs or studios IMO. If anything, I'd like a version with 6V6 tubes or lower powered mains to bring it down to 30 watts like fuchs does with the SLX 30

I just want the option to try them. I love both EL34 and 6l6's, would even like to try KT66 tubes, but nothing is written in stone and you are right it sounds good with the 6l6's. I am not even close to the player you are but nonetheless tone is what I want and that is why I want to try this amp, you sure  sound great and I am excited about getting mine whenever that day arrives.

I love how that singlecut's mid to high register notes sparkle but yet sustain on the verge of feedback.  And then the bass notes punch out.  For now, I have a very very very poor imitation of the OT Special using a Tonebone Classic pedal with either my Boogie MkII or my Blues Jr.  Lots of sustain but it just doesn't have that sparkle.   And the bass notes on my setup are a little flubby.  :P  I'll just have to wait.   :-\

I listened to your strat clips some more and am really happy with how they sound. I am getting some Pete Biltoft pups to replace my kinmans and cannot wait to get them in and get the amp. Can I request a song, I would love to hear how Riviera Paradise sounds. You have given me great relief I was worried about the single coil sound which I tend to lean towards as opposed to humbuckers, but you have made them sing, thanks.

Yes, my recording technique is VERY primitive.  I just set my kodak digital camera on my desk next to my computer speakers that are playing the backing tracks, and my amp is across the room (which is why it sounds distant!)   I have a video camera that takes much better quality video, but I really don't have any way  to mic the amp into the computer with the music tracks and sync the video....ANYONE want to help me out here????

Its a japanese ES-100, a vintage 335 copy.

I have compared it to various 335's. Let say that it is very similar in quality, some were better, some were worse. In terms of the tone, I like mine best so far. The guitar is very resonant and with the Seth Lover pickups I have put in there, it sings (mind you, the stock pickups were not bad either).

Played through a Two Rock Custom Reverb,  61' Strat (Fralin Vintage Hot), with a Fulltone Tape Echo.

I've never heard of any Matt Scofield stuff. The backing is pretty much a straight blues. It could belong to anyone.

Judging by how you play I think you'd like him.

Oh, and my speakers are Emi RW&B speakers. I do not like the Celestion 1265 speakers because they have no highs and lows though they definitely sound better for the Robben-tone than anything else other than maybe an EV12L. However, I also like to get SRV "lenny" tones out of my amps and the 1265 sounds awful for that kind of stuff so unless I want to have a dedicated cab just for the robben tone, I make do with the rw&b.

Well, it's obviously a great amp and it's very sensitive to adjustment. I have only played through it about 4 or 5 hours. Hopefully I'll have more time to tweak it this weekend. The last clip was done with reverb and delay in the loop. It definitely is more pleasing to play through with reverb and delay. My kleinulator should arrive this week.

By the way, I told Mike Klein about this group and he's going to sign up and introduce himself. He says he may make a run of these if there is enough interest.

Hey Steven...I've done pretty much all the mods Jack has so well documented except I didn't add those beefy 50uF caps and the one resistor going to X(Level) I went with 220k instead of 180k like on the Layout.

Clean sounds great. so does OD and OD with mid boost ( I guess you switched it on the front panel?). Personaly I didn't like the PAB mode so much. It seems a bit dark, but that is my taste obviously. No offense!

In what way have the tweaks altered the sound? For me it's hard to compare clips because there are different guitars and effects. Curious to hear your opnion. Being totaly ignorant on the technical side of things I'd love to know what certain changes do.

Here are a couple of me and a good buddy, Ken Robarge, who dragged his recording gear and keys over to my place so we could have some fun... and, oh yes, record some music while we were at it.

Now guys, the playing here is not stellar. I was three-sheets to the wind, having drank ample amounts of wine and I was feeling pretty loose. Nevertheless, there's a bit of merit here on the OTS so take it for what its' worth. Bear in mind only the "snip" mods have been done to this unit. The brunt of the mods are yet to be done.

Thanks for the kudos, guys. Considering I was into several glasses of wine, I'm surprised I could even find my fretboard. :P We cut four tunes of which I thought these two at least had some merit. Glad they ran OK.

I was using either a '58 Les Paul or a Korean PRS on these, I believe the Lester was the more likely one. Speaker cab is an Avatar 2-12 with an older Greenback and a new G12-65 in it. The recording was done with a SM57 pointed right smack dab in the middle of the two speakers.

The question about the mid-range boost, it was off; the overdrive was on. Tone controls were something like T:4 M:3 B:3-4 OD:3-4 or something like that. The OD setting is pretty variable depending on where that internal OD trimmer is set. I was also working the guitar's volume and tone controls as well.

My buddy Ken furnished all the keyboard work and had a drum machine along as well. Basically he brought over all the recording gear. All I did was play guitar and furnish dinner (actually my wife did... haha!)

It was a fun way to spend a Saturday night, ya' know?  ;D

Steven, essentially it is only the Overtone. There is no OD pedal or something like that. The gain was set pretty much to the max (no PAB) and with the Rock switch on. I did a bit of post processing with the delay and reverb, but no compression.

poipounder57: fingers....yeah, perhaps.  I had a friend over yesterday and he tried the Ceriatone and he dialing in tones which simply weren't "mine". I guess that tone may be in the "fingers" but I am beginning to think that "tone is in the dialing" too. :)

Think we have to wait for that, until this new amp/mod comes to the market.

However, for me, i'm not into the Fusion-HRM,  but more Blues-non HRM.

(But at the end, we want to tweak non the less...)

From what i hear from the clips, there is little to nothing to improve on the sound clean/distorted from the Overtone as is.  ... beautifull

Outstanding!!  I've heard some comments about the Dumble "Bluesbreaker" circuit. Maybe that's one other direction the non-hrm circuit could take. You are certainly getting some good mild overdrive tones out of yours.

Volume 5, Bright Sw. Off, Deep On, Rock On, Treble 4.5, Mid 4, Bass 6, Level 4.5, Ratio 3.5, Master 3, Prescence 4.

I had the PAB on also which I hadn't done much of before. I had a Line 6 Delay in the loop which was on a real short slap. Waiting on a Dumbleator clone. 99% of it was Tele with Fralins through a Naylor open back 1x12 with Gold Celestion. Yeah it's more compressed than the other clip I guess having the Boost on & more gain in general. Wanted to check that out...like it pretty much.

The OTS has only one eq for both channels. Do you feel that works well. Or would you have to tweak the settings when you switch channels?
Ah you used the PAB. I noticed in Jacks clips that gives a darker sound.
It's hard discussing these things without an amp ;-)

hi, I kept the overdrive low (around 3) and Volume quite high (around 8). No PAB and rock switch on. Ratio is low and Presence is half way up. The guitar is quite bass friendly too.

Are you doing anything special as far as effects, recording techniques, mods, etc... I have been considering an overtone for quite a while based on your clips. I mostly play a tele.

When I record, I record at low volume and with a standard Shure SM57. I typically tend to use a bit of delay and/or reverb.

I inquired about the setting with Nik a few weeks ago.  Since mine is going to be a complete cab I wanted the ten o'clock setting many preferred and wanted to stay clear of the marshall sound.  Anyhow, Nik said he characteristically sets them at 10 o'clock from the factory so I am hoping that is what you, Marin have yours set on.  I have a 335 and your Tokai sounds killer and you have made me want a Tele in the worst way.

That was very sweet. The beginning of Red House is what I am going for that tone is awesome. Right now my amp seems to like my bartolini single coil in the neck position on this cheap Dean guitar that sounds just great rather than the humbuckers I have in my other guitar, I just have to learn how to tweek it and I can't read schematics well enough yet yet to understand where everything is but I'm getting there.

Could you please tell me the settings on your amp and what Speakers you are running through. I have found killer tones with my Les Paul but have not been able to capture the character of the Strat with a nice smooth overdrive. You seems to have achieved the tone I am going for on my Strat. Hi guys and thanks for the kind words! Mine is just a stock OTS and the settings are as follows:

Vol-3 (Deep, Bright, rock all in up position) Treble-4 Mid-6 Bass-3, O/D level-3 Ratio-5 Master-3 presence-6. I think the trim pot is fairly standard but haven't opened it up yet. Have just ordered a Kleinulator as I'm finding the reverb and chorus sound terrible straight into the amp!
The speaker cab is a Custom built Achillies 212 box with a Vintage 30 and Greenback in it. It has a removable back panel (the panel is closed in the vid.)

The pickups in my strat are hand wound by a guy in Australia by the name of Mick Brierley and I found the difference in the dynamics with a good set of pickups was huge. I have found it a very responsive amp. If you play a crappy guitar through it it still sounds cool but when you play something great through it you really hear the difference.

Hope my rambling has helped someone out there to achieve the tones they are chasing and... play on!!!

Good old rock tone.

As the saying goes...."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".  Personally Imassy's clips are my favourite OTS tones...there are many excellent clips on the forum and Youtube but I would love to hear some more 'in yer face rawk' tones which would show how versatile the OTS is. Just for the record, I am not a metal fan/head banger....in fact I'm probably older than most of the members on this forum  ;)

It was Imassy's clips on Nik's site that finally convinced me a couple of months ago that I should get an Overtone...... unfortunely since then the £ has divebombed against the dollar (down from approximately $2.10 to $1.55 to the £) and I am having second thoughts.....and it doesn't look as if the pound is going to recover for some time :(

Of course, that's why this world is such a wonderful place, so many different flavors...

I know what you mean about the exchange rates.
I guess we're down again... I'm just glad I bought my OTS (and my Gibby) while we were up. Otherwise it would never happen.

Hi Jun, I am using the AxeFx unit which you can see on top of the Overtones. Its a modelling amp, but you can bypass the amp sims and use only effects.

There is a bit of ambience reverb in the mix too.

I am posting this as an example of the the OTS (april/may 08, unmodded) tone that does not fall into the ford/carlton category but it seems OK for old fashioned rock & roll. It has kind of an overdriven P-90ish tone despite the guitar being an R9 LP with Burstbuckers. Not great video/sound quality (I don't why it comes up twice in the same post, sorry), but it conveys the concept.

I glued it in with dental cement - stick itself is very strog but flexible 2mm fishing nylon line, one can use a grass trimmer line as well.
But unfortunately it can scratch guitar surface if you don’t have pickguard. That’s why I play on the neck not near pickups.

I was going to say: You've really got that Carlton/Ford thing going. But after listening to the whole video, I really think its a Carlton/Carlton thing. I could almost close my eyes and think I was listening to an excerpt from "Last Night". You could start an LC tribute band. ;D

Do you mind sharing what your "bedroom level" settings were and What version of the OTS you were playing? I think a lot of it is your fingering style and phrasing, but that was the closest I have heard to emulating the LC dumble tone.

Just a stock 06 Les Paul standard into an
un-modded S and M 50 watt plugged into a two rock 1x12 speaker cab.
Rock switch on, all others off, everything else at 12 o clock except the overdrive on 9 o clock.  Kleinulator, nanoverb, and Suhr Mini Mix in the loop.  Volume was a bit below average speaking level.
 A bit of line six delay on the floor before the input.
The Mini Mix made an ENORMOUS difference in the way the amp responded.  Without it, even with the Klein, the amp was rather flat and unresponsive with the Nanoverb in series.

Thanks so much.  I wasn't looking for a new amp or had even heard of Ceriatone when I stumbled on one of your youtubes , and was struck by your stellar tone.    I always thought a lot o the Dumble magic was in the  upper harmonics, so I went for the S and M, with parts to mod to the standard OTS if I didn't like it.  The HRM/non HRM clip was particularly helpful.  I couldn't be happier with my choice.

Thanks for that info, very interesting. But unfortunately that info has generated even more questions for me:
1. Is it the the original Mini-mix or Mini-Mix II?
2. Klein & Mini-mix are both supposed to be in the amp's effects  loop with processed effects looped to them. So are you putting the Mini-mix and Klein in series or parallel and then Nanoverb through one of those two?
3. My understanding is that the Mini-mix has to have a 100% wet signal (do you just dial out the dry signal on the Nanoverb?)
4. Why not have the L6 delay in the loop?
5. Are you using the "level" control of the Nano Verb to control the overall volume? (or perhaps the Klein?) My OTS would be much louder than "average speaking level"  with the Vol and Master at 12' O'Clock
6. Have you tried the setup without the the Klein? If so, do you still get the same tone at "bedroom levels"?

To answer your questions,
1-It's a regular minimix.  I probably should have gone for the 2, and used it to go direct into some of my other amps with out a loop, but I got lazy and couldn't find any stores that had them in stock last week.
2-Send of amp>Klein running mini mix in send and return>nanoverb in loop of klein
3-Yes, 100% wet, regulate reverb with nano output
4- I like having the line 6 on the floor, and don't want to run all the extra cable to get to the loop.  Also,  i prefer the sound of the delay distortion to vary with volume like the guitar does.  Using a ducking type delay setting is critical when using distortion to keep things from getting too mucky.
5-see 3
6-The amp sounds great without the klein, but a little smoother and better with. Other alternatives considered would to either use a wet monitor, or easier, a 2X12 (stereo cab)with a second speaker powered by a small clean amp w. reverb (inside the cab) running from the mic'd first speaker,.... but it all gets so complicated and heavy.  Minimix was simplest alternative, with acceptable result.
Most critical element...I read somewhere that Robben Ford plays very lightly, and only digs in with the right hand for emphasis.  This amp in particular seems to really like that approach, as opposed to say, a cranked Fender, which seems to respond well to, say a Stevie Ray right hand with lots of muscle. 

Thanks for your thorough response to my questions. The one thing I did not see was your method of volume control. i.e. getting  a nice OD tone at BR volumes. I use a BBE Sonic Maximizer which really sounds great, but it boosts my signal so much that I can't put my amp volume above 2 without being too loud for anything but a large auditorium or outdoor venue. I use a TC G Sharp for my reverb & delay and it has a level control that helps but it can't be turned down below 12 O'Clock with out losing some tone. So your volume control method is very interesting to me.

Last thing....what is your OD  trimmer set at?

I think I had the od volume on about 8 o clock, the master on about one, and the recovery on the klein somewhere around 2 o clock.  I put on a backing cd through the pa next to me, and turned on the camcorder.
I'm new to the whole forum, posting video thing, so please excuse the low production values.
I will tell you that I did the first gig with the rig yesterday, and really felt the amp helped me speak naturally.  It's still hard for me to remember to keep the right hand light.  Many positive comments on the amp from players in the audience.
Check with suhr re the minimix compatibility with the TC before buying....something about phase relationships with some units that convert the whole signal to digital...I don't know the details.   The nice thing about it is that you run a full signal into the reverb, but only add a bit into the mix.

Thanks. It is a special amp. I have been gigging with it for almost a year now and any time there is a knowledgeable guitarist in the crowd they will come up, check it out and tell me how good the amp sounds.  How do you compare it  to the Two Rock?

Interesting question- the Two Rock is both similar and different.
It's a Custom Reverb (NOT sig).
The TR seems to have a bit of a midrange bump that makes it a bit fussy in response to pedals.  It's overdrive is smoother, almost like a Soldano, but without the full harmonic content and....texture of the OTS.   Works nice with a strat playing clean leads.  Pretty much like the Mayer trio recording.  Just a different voice.
But, it's got built in reverb, which makes it a bit quicker to set up, but the reverb does detract from the punch.
As I said, I was perfectly happy with it until I stumbled on Marin's clip while looking for pickups. 
With all of these amps, you get either the perfect clean, or the perfect lead, but not both without changing settings. That's why I'm leaning toward a 2 head, one 2 x 12 cab set up.

Thanks for the link.  I've had some great results with a Ernie ball pan pedal at the end of my chain with inputs going to each head, which goes to it's own speaker. The new Hum X seems to cure all ground loop issues I prefer this because:
a. I can blend the two amps, or even morph a note or phrase from clean to distorted
b. Basically 2 discrete  amp/speaker units means backup in case of failure of either speaker or head
c. I can run a stereo rig (especially nice for clean) using the Line 6 delay and tc chorus for 3d effect, which is nice for the Mike Stern type thing for those types of gigs.
d. I'm still only carrying one  cabinet, and 2 heads- each relatively lighter than the 2 Boogies (@ about 90 lbs each) I used to carry with me.  The older I get, the heavier the boogies feel.
e. if the band's really loud or the room large,  my 2   50 watt systems can be run simultaneously for 100watts
f. sometimes it's nice to blend lead tones, like Bonamassa
Attached is a photo of my one amp pedalboard- I just add the ernie ball to the right of my other volume pedal and keep the 2 cables on the board in place to plug in if necessary from the line 6 to blender. should I change to the stereo rig.
I have both TR and Ceriatone footswitches mounted because i'm too lazy to take them on and off.  I have them positioned so I can change simultaneously with one foot stomp.

can you explain the HumX plzz?

Hum X   It's a little device to put between the outlet and the plug of a second amp to eliminate ground loop hum while maintaining the safety of  grounded equipment.  Basically has the same sonic effect as lifting the ground with one of those 3 prong to 2 prong connectors, except you don't die on a bad day.

That's a parts telecaster with very lightly laquered very fat neck and 1 piece very light  swamp ash body cut by USA custom guitars, w Fralin medium powered blues pickups, and Vintique Bridge and neck attachment assembly.  The volume and tone of the guitar are on about 8 and 3 respectively, and the amp is on rock, no boosts, with all knobs about noon, except for the master vol, which is barely on.  kleinulator, minimix w lexicon lxp 1 in the loop and line 6 dd4 on the floor between the guitar and amp goinig into a TWO ROCK12-65 12 inch speaker.

Did you ever blend the HRM and S and M for a 2 amp tone?  I'd be interested to see if they play well together.

No Boosts? I can hear a bit of clipping or what sounds like a touch of OD that I would not get from my amp with those settings. Is it the Klein that is giving it that little push?  Great touch and phrasing!

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear....I'm on the overdrive channel.  Since it was recorded at speaking volume, there is no power tube saturation.   I'm not thrilled about the compromises that need to be made when channel switching any amp which shares tone stacks, so I've got the CT going into one speaker of a 2 x 12 and a TR custom reverb set for clean in the other one, blended with an EB pan pedal.  I had problems at first going directly into the 2 amps from my Line 6 DD4 (parasitic oscillation, loss of signal), but solved it last week with a Lehle red 2 amp switcher at the end of the chain.  The TR was off for this clip.

This amp seems to be all about keeping a very controlled, light right hand, and a bit of palm muting to keep the unwanted strings behaved.  The Klein does very little, other than smooth out the highs, make the signal a bit fatter, and make it possible to use reverb in the loop.   I try to find the spot where it starts to break up at about 2/3 volume on the guitar pot with average right hand pressure and go from there.  The comping in the clip was done in the OD channel, with the volume of the guitar turned down a bit....not ideal clean, but serviceable. 
 By boosts, I mean no mid boost, or Deep boost, which Nik was kind enough to install in the FET input spot.

Nice clip...I love the clean channel on my S and M too.
There are a few ways to split the signal, some simpler, some better.
Simplest way is to go in series through anything with a stereo out.
I did this for years, until I realized I was losing some signal and getting some signal going the wrong way
out of the 2 amps.  Problem was solved last week by getting a quality signal splitter, that has
transformers, etc to avoid those problems.
It's especially nice to blend clean signal on one amp with overdrive of other, or two different overdrives.
Santana does that these days with a Boogie and a Dumble, Bonamassa does it with a Marshall and one of 3 different amps, Pevar does it with dozens of combinations, Gillmore did it all the time, etc..  Hard to go back to one amp after you get used to it.

Any one done comparisons between the HRM or...other dumbly sound spitters with any Two Rocks?  Got a possible payplan option on a very nice 2-rock(onyx combo) from my bro which would carry me away from Ceriatone land for a while at least.

I remember John Edmonds reporting here that he has now sold both his TR's sicne getting the OTS. Maybe drop him a PM

The od sound was a Dick Dijkman custom guitar(Dutch) with Seymour Duncan Alnico pro humbuckers.

It is the first time that I listened to jazz with OTS.

Nice playing Doc. Wish I could have been there. Small clubs are just the best for atmosphere. Saw Matt Schofield last month at a similar sized venue and it was absolutely electric. Booked to see Bonamassa at a big venue in November and I'm not expecting it to have anywhere near the same atmosphere.

Thanks my man. Yes, you are correct. Slop resistor on V1 is 65k now and NFB cap is 400pf. Made cleans fatter and spongier, more bluesmaster territory. Drive also feels just great, liquid and syrupy.
Unfortunately recording is not doing justice to real tone which is amazing live.

I orderd it in dec -08 an revcived it in Feb -09. I ordered it just as it was then, nothing extra. thats why i called it unmodded, so i really dont know whats inside the amp. Maybe you can check with ceriatone what schematic they used then if you want it like mine.

I'm Getting a 100w HRM Bluesmaster built for me right now by Jon Mernyk of Mill Creek Audio. I will post some Video's and clips as soon as I get it....Its supposed to be doneand delivered in a week and a half or so.  I am lookin for a dumbleator right now for it cause I am a verb addict. I already got an old Ev-12-L and a new celetion G-12-65 so I will be sure to demo both of them.  The amp won't be stock though its going to have quite a few mods done I believe. Either way this next week and a half is going to seem like forever till I get my amp. I have been waiting almost 3 months to get it!!!
 

Which mods are you getting?

Well I don't know for sure but the amp is really going to be custom built just for my
playing style.Me and the builder have been going back and fourth dicusing sounds of what I like, and what I would like to hear in terms of the amp.
At first I was really after a certain clean tone (Steel String Singer and varients of it)
Then started to change my mind and wanted an amp that would have tons of clean headroom and that thick blooming OD. I decided on the Bluesmaster and ever since then he has took in all my R&D and started building on it (Like H.A.D does/did?).I will see if I can get some breakdown of what the amp has done to it after he nears completion.

Yeah bluesmaster(high plate/skyliner)......It came alive when I got to turn it up for the first time.

I can't wait to put some NOS pre amp tubes in it.

Are you sure about the skyliner. Usually Bluesmaster has its own tonestack more or less derived from a Fender Bassman/Marshall ditto.

Yeah it does have the Skyliner Eq,I specifically asked for it. The skyline Eq seems to have more frequency bandwidth

I actually took singing lessons for a while but the teacher would talk to me for a half an hour and burn up my time. I was paying $25 for 45 min.

   Yeah the strat pups are single coils(under wound single coils). and the speaker is a Old Mesa Boogie Labeled EVM-12-L from the 80's that's been around the block ;D
The mods in the amp are: Skyliner EQ, Made to sound not as bright as the orig. BM.
The OD side was made to sound more like the standard HRM as opposed to the BM OD.

I am using a Holy Grail Verb in the loop too.

So in essence your preamp is a standard HRM?, but the poweramp is a BM
