I am interested in how you achieve your overdrive sounds. Do you use the OD channel of the amp? Or do you use a pedal on the Clean channel? Boost on or off? Etc.

The reason is that I am indecisive about the overdrive on my HRM. At the moment I use the OD channel and a Keeley modded TS-808 as a boost for solos. But I actually like the sound of the TS-808 better as a default overdrive, instead of the OD channel.

So, whatch'all say?

I personally think it's a builders obligation to make a amp sound good, particular the overdrive on this amp. Originally this amp was called; overdrive special. Wonder why?
A HRM can sound very good with strat and doesn't have to be sounding like Carlton/Ford.

I started out with using OTS clean channel and my pedalboard... but when I tried to use OD from the amp, my delay and reverb pedal were not working... so I had to go with the loop solution... now with additional loop setup, it was just to much of everything... I wanted something simple, so I finally gave up the pedalboard and start using only the OD in the amp.
It took some time to get accustomed to new tone. I had to modify the amp a bit to suit my needs better but on the end I was more than happy. The dynamics you get from the amp is just not there with the pedals .. it takes more effort but the reward is there.
Now I'm using my OTS and BM HRM this way and I'm not looking back...I'm a believer.

On the other hand my friend doesn't want to touch the OD in his OTS... he adores the clean ch and his pedals and his tone is awesome.

I can't imagine why anyone would specifically go for one of the Overtone models and not use the overdrive.....Real tube overdrive or solid state pedal overdrive, the choice seems obvious. This is where the amp is supposed to excel, is it not?

I'm just in the process of putting together my OTS, waiting for Mercury iron to show up. Currently using a modded Fender Hotrod Deluxe, that I'm very pleased with. The Fender also has tube OD and IMO has a real nice smooth singing OD tone with my LPS. I don't use pedals with the Fender, and with the exception of a reverb in the FX loop of the OTS, I plan on continuing my no pedal tradition. I'm curious to find out for myself if there's anything to this Dumble tone thing.

Is anyone using a Strymon Blue Sky Reverb, or any other reverb in the FX loop, without the  C-lator/Klienulator successfully(without it messing up the tone)? The Blue Sky's supposed to accept guitar or line level I/O, so shouldn't screw up the sound, I hope.

OK... Let me try and explain some more. It is highly subjective as everything is with sound/timbre. To me the OD Channel is quite ragged/harsh, way too metal for my liking. For solos this is good as that extra saturation goes endless sustain, but just not for the main lead.

When I listen to Youtubes like MarinBlues I hear a very smooth overdrive, very unlike what I get out of it. When I have to play the louder variants of music (Hard Rock to (Death) Metal) I use a Randall MTS amp, and I bought the HRM especially for the "cleaner" stuff.

I don't use the PAB as I it circumvents the Tone section, for Boost I either use the Boost button on the TC Electronic Nova System (clean boost) or an overdrive pedal (overdriven boost).

My chain is as follows: guitar > Wah > Whammy > TS-808 > Ceriatone (> volume > Nova System<) > speaker
