Great tone pickmaster,this must be a tweaked amp?
I'am more a humbucker player but these samples sounded great,about the hook amp ,This isn't me!!!!(pitty),hook is coming also with a dumble cloon soon " the special"
For the dutch readers,there is a OTS on sale on marktplaats ( not Mine)

Thanks Hans,

Yes it's tweaked but in my experience tweaks can be minimal.
Just Three most important ones:
1. Change V1 slope resistor from 150k to 77k – adds more touch sensitivity, sweetness and “chirp”
2. Choice and combination of V2 high cut capacitors.
3. Removing useless PAB and incorporated true BOOST which does not change tone, just gain.

Please do not misunderstand my previous post, HOOK is a great sounding amp and I really enjoyed your demo, but it is not a D-style.
I’m sure their “Special” would be a great amp.

Hi Steven,

No, it’s very easy .
You have to disconnect PAB relay (keep wiring permanently as normal – NOT PAB).
Then reconnect relay to the clean VOLUME in series with 400k linear pot. Which you can set to desired volume increase, via boost switch.

Layout is on my mod’s page somewhere.

It is like you increase a volume manually from 5 to 8 or whatever.
Obviously this boosts drive channel too with no tone change.
You can also use relay’s another contacts to automatically engage DEEP switch when pressing a boost knob. This obviously changes boost tone a little.

Endless possibilities my friend.

Hi Doc,

I think those speakers have a lot to do with the  brightness of the tone. I love the fatness of the B150 reckon I will have to build a little 1x15 ext cab. My cab has an EV and a G12-65 and it needs something like the Century to liven it up a little.

I note that your original mod was to change the slope resistor to 100k, but you've gone a little further now to 77k. If thats giving the amp that lovely bright tone I will have to do that mod. I did the V2 snubbers mod with the SPDT switch but I nearly always run it with the max cap values, maybe I need to go a little higher with the values.

1x15 ‘’ would be great, especially 150watt Jensen NEO – it has great tone.
Here are the dimensions for compact closed back ported (with 2X4’’ bass reflex tubes):  H – 47cm, L – 53cm and D – 30cm. Built with 15mm Baltic Birch ply.
You’ll love it!

Hi Doc. This project will have to wait a little while I have a 4x10 (Jensen P10r's, closed back ported) to finish this weekend, only the wiring to do and back to cover. Then its on to my Plexi50 kit, followed by finishing off my Strat respray. Enough to keep me going!

I have always had in mind a 1x15 though, when I built my DC-30 combo I got enough cream tolex and brown grille cloth deliberately. Would you reckon the Jensen Neo is superior to that Celestion B150? I thought it sounded wonderful.

Jensen is better, much lighter and it is designed for GUITAR!

I was wondering if your mod (3. Removing useless PAB and incorporated true BOOST which does not change tone, just gain) would basicly sound the same as using a clean booster (I just got a Xotic RC Booster)

I guess it will do the same thing indeed. BUT it would probably introduce little bit white noise (Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hum) on clean and much more when you engage a drive channel.

Just switch it ON without playing and listen to both channel’s noise level. Huh?
I personally never liked an idea to have anything in front of the OTS, especially with 70 k slope resistor on the V1. It is to sensitive.

well it will give me a good idea what to expect which is nice.
The RC booster is versitile. I could use for other stuff as well. Right now I use it to pump up the volume when I use my 2 and 4 (in between) pickup settings on my Strat. give a bit more top end and volume. which is nice.

Steven, I hope you like the RC. I find it very transparent and it does what the Boost ought to do on the OTS, so I intend leaving my PAB installed and use th RC.

BTW you can alter how the PAB affects your volume by turning everything up ie if you normally run TMB at 5 3 5 then try the PAB when you have the TMD at 7 5 7, it has less of an impact, though you might not like your tone at 7, 5, 7  Smiley
