Hi,

I'm looking at an OTS FM.  I'm trying to figure out if that's the one I want, or if the FM MEM is the right one, and I'm not sure how to evaluate the one against the other.

Generally speaking, I'm looking for a good fendery (having given up on my dream voxy) clean sound, together with the classic Robben Ford tone.  I'm aware that the FM supposed is as close to Robben's first D-amp as can be.

If I understand correctly, the MEM consists of several smallish changes in the circuit.  It's not clear if they're all switchable or not (by which I mean to ask: is the FM MEM the same as the FM but with several options that can be switched in?)

Overall, I understand the MEM reduces the high end of the amp.  However, I also understand that the C-lator (which I would also purchase) does the same thing, so would I have any reason to get both?

I fear I'm not being very clear here, but I hope the dilemma comes across.  Any advice or helpful direction would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

I just went through the same diecision.  I was between the bluesmaster and the FM50.  Nik tol me that the Modern Eagle tames the highs a little from the FM50.

I went with the FM 50.  4 more weeks to wait.

Just to be clear, you went with the FM50 without the Modern Eagle Mod?

Great, thanks.  I'm hearing no compelling reason to go with the MEM.

I haven't heard the FM MEM, but I can tell you this about my FM100; It will not sound good without the C-lator. I have a head with build in C-lator, but just because I was curious, I tried to dial in a sound without it. I can't. You can tame the highs to an acceptable level, but then the sound is no good. No sparkle and quite a harsh character.

So I think the choices are OTS FM with C-lator, or the MEM without...
