Hi everybody !

I'm new in the ceriatone family. I ordered an HRM (43W with half power switch). Yesterday I plugged it in my new cab which is a nameofsound 2x12XL with 2 Celestion Classic Lead 80 (closed back). I was very disappointed to hear a ridiculous bright sound. I play a Vigier SL, and it sounds like a tele in an old super bright fender.
I was wondering if this sound comes from the speakers which are new and have to break in, or from the HRM.

I'm searching a very dark kind of crunch, to push it with a distortion to get that Shawn lane type of tone. And by the way i'm using a Vovox speaker cable. Does anyone can help me ?

Give the amp time to break in. also the HRM gives you the ability to adjust the EQ on the Overdrive via trim pots in the amp

I heard that the speakers need 50 hours to operate nicely. How many time does the HRM need to completely deliver his sound ?

About the same amount of time.

My amp (non'hrm) was also very bright and hard sounding. So I started modifying on and on and after a month the amp sounded quite nice, after which I removed all my mods - except one which is lead tone - and the amp sounded alive.

So just have a little pateince..

My S&M was lacking sparkle and, difficult to describe it, but 'tight' seems a good word to me. It took many hours to loosen up and develop a nice tone. I found the OD channel too bright and the mods (a combination of Jack Zucker and Pickmaster mods) I've done have tamed that nicely, but thats what the OD EQ stack if for on the HRM so I reckon, give it a burn in of at least 24 hours continuous running (leave it on with normal settings) and then come back to it.

I'm not sure about your speakers but before you get in to doing any mods, borrow a g12-65 cab if you can, just to see what the difference is.

Slayerman, are you located in France (I would assume yes, according to the cabinet you are using Smiley  ?
I'd be interested to test the HRM OTS if you are not too far from me...By the way I have a 2x12 loaded with G12-65 , so you could try that with your amp.

You should put a signal thru the amp if you do this according to my amp guy or all your doing is wasting electricity.  But, yes I subscribe to the burn in theory.

Wasn't necessary with my DC-30 I just built. I just left it on for two spells of 8 hours. Made a very big difference (but that one was really nice right from the start and just got better)

My HRM is running at the moment. I will see tomorrow if the sound is better than today. Thank you for considering my "problem" !



Sinon Olric, par la qualité de mon anglais, oui je suis français. J'habite en Haute Normandie, à coté de Rouen, donc si tu n'es pas trop loin, ça me dirait bien de tester le HRM dans les fameux G12-65 !  Grin

Make sure the bright knobs on the front panel are pushed in and not pulled out. All of the controls on the front panel are very interactive so when you turn one knob you may need to change some others until you find the tone you want at the volume you are going to play at.
I would also change the 12AX7 closest to the power tubes (V3) to a 12AX7LPS. It will take some of the OD fizz out.
I haven't really tried any other speakers as I just received my HRM a week ago but the Celestion G12-65 in mine sounds really nice.
