Hi everyone!! Im a newbie
Im going to be purchasing a new HRM or non-HRM ceriatone amp im still not 100% sure in which direction to go. I seem to like the non-hrm clips more than the HRM clips. Since the HRM is more versatile im scared to miss out if I get the overtone special.

I asked nik if the HRM can be tweaked to sound like the non-hrm version and he mentioned that he could mod the HRM to bypass the post OD tonestack via a switch on the HRM.

Just wondering if anyone has done this? if so how does it affect the  tone?

i've done it. I have a Bluesmaster so it is a lil different from the standard HRM when bypassed (a lil warmer less smooth), but it defintely makes a difference and makes more gain available. all you do is add a switch to the ground wire coming off of the HRM board running to ground either via the middle pot or directly to the buss bar. i've attached a photo to make it more clear.

I will probably get Nik to do the mod for me when i order the amp.
Just have to sell some gear before i can place my order.

Nik normally won't do this mod, but it isn't hard to do. I will say this, without the HRM tonestack, the OD channel can get kinda bright, if you have really bright speakers, maybe too much so. Most people will used the OD channel on HRM amps with the PAB engaged and tune the HRM tonestack accordingly "set and forget" as they say. I have a modded switchable PAB circuit (more gain) and when it is in more PAB mode, i found that the HRM took "something" away, that's why i have my HRM switchable. In most cases it actually is a benefit, and once you get it tuned right, it is a beautiful thing  Smiley

I did mine using the unused earth lift switch on the back of the amp.
I bypassed the HRM stack and have never switched it back Grin, personal perference though

I rarely switch mine back on either. Originally I just bypassed it and didn't even put a switch on it for about a month or so Wink

I use a WGS ET-65 (G12-65 Clone). I dont find it to be very bright. I actually took the V30 out of my fender supersonic 60 and installed the ET-65 in it and it sounds much better. I installed the V30 in a custtom closed back cab that i built and i like the v30 better in the closed back cab.

I will definietly be looking at getting the mod done when i get my HRM.

Not sure how well a switch works to switch HRM out - since the I assume the circuits around it expect the HRM , but let me ask you a simple question: when you switch in OD on an amp, do you like the tone, or want it more rolled-off, scooped or whatever? I usually find it too harsh, so love the HRM EQ to help me out there - do you feel you need this? Not everyone does - if you generally like OD tone on most amps, without any change to your clean EQ, HRM may not be for you

it actually works very well. gives a lil more gain, and you can always switch it back in if you want it. i def wanted the Bluesmaster tonestack, but not necessarily the HRM, so it worked out good for me
