i'm looking to get one of these for a FM 50 that goes into a 1 x 12" epi cab that is now 16 ohm.  I see that these speakers are now 15 ohm. 

Can I just switch the 16 that is in there now for the 15 ohm G12 - 65. or is there some other mod I need to do?

Yes, you can indeed!

But I recommend to get 8 ohm ( 7ohm really) G12-65 and switch your amp’s out on 8 ohm. This way it will be bit louder with more highs.

as already stated... yes the g12-65 at 15ohms will be fine

i use one with my amp in a 112 extension cab.

may  i suggest that you use a 15 ohm g1265... so that if you also wish to use the other speaker as well then you can have the two in parallel, resulting in 8 ohm

mixing 8 and 16 ohm will not give the right impedance match with your amp
