Hi guys, im lovin my Fm me. I have been trying my board out front of the amp and not in the loop of the clator. Has anyone else experimented with this? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

A friend (and great player - he just got a jeff traugott acoustic, I wanted to cry (seriously!) when I heard it) said that RF is running his fx out front again and showed me some pics, and yes I think it does sound better. I will never let the clator go (its now integral to my sound and rig) but am really happy running all the fx out front!!

Thoughts appreciated.

That's one of the reasons i purchased the Fuchs verbrator. Was i had to have the option of being able to run effects in parallel and not serial. Plus the re-verbs amazing! Having to deal with a rack sized d-lator was a problem for me too.  Time based effects are supposed to be in the loop, you want distortion pedals out front.

I would agree with the out front thing, unless you have a Minimix II or X-Blender.  I've just added the latter to my FM50ME/C-Lator/G Major II w/EVM12L and it just leapfrogged right over the "out front" sound I was using before.  Without the X-Blender, it was sucking tone!!!

So, I think that may be why some of the real tone heads around here use the MMII for loop effects. 

The X-Blender was worth EVERY PENNY to get the tone!!!

It is hard to give an advice on such matters.
Most important is what makes you play and feel better!.
Personally I only use wah pedal with a true bypass in front of the amp and time based FXs in the amp loop (C-lator or whatever). For me also nothing is better than my amp’s drive. No pedal comes closer ( I’ve tried Ethos TLE, Damkudo, Zendrive, freakish Alpha drive, Koch pedaltone and many more).

The Only reason RF uses FX Out front is because he's either A.) Renting an Amp and has no choice to use a FX pedal board to get his sound and versatility. Or B.) he doesn't use the D-lator/2290 setup with his Dumble anymore so he uses time based effects, and doesn't even use the amps Overdrive anymore, he uses a Zendrive instead (Why this is, I have no clue? But it is what it is).

If you're still using Time baed FX, I'd put them in the loop. If you plan on using time based FX out front it will make the Overdrive sound Muddy and all chopped up. Put and OD/Fuzz/ and or pedal Modulation FX pedals in front of the amp.

Only IMO of course, I've tried all the setups, all the different D-lators (Klein, Quinn-u-lator, Bludotone Loop-a-lator, Two-Rock ELI II), and I always keep my Time based FX (Providance Chrono) in the the built in Dumbleator of my Quinn, and I use the amps OD, but I put my Modulation FX (Modded Arion Chorus, Uni-Vibe), a Delica Fuzz & Quinn Fuzz Petal, and Clyde Mccoy Wah in front of the amp.

ive seen a current shot of RF s setup. Not from his fansite but really recent ie weeks old not months or years. It definately had the Zen back in (not the dumkudo) and has modulation and time based effects going into the front of his dumble. Nothing was in the loop. I dont even know of RF uses a dumbleator type product.

It made me experiment with everything out front and while my reverb is really accentuated with the od channel engaged, everything else sounds good!!

It's a far more common setup when laying live professionally than using onboard or effect reverb, which gets too wet too fast in auditoriums.

This is what i've been doing lately, since i stopped using the c-lator. I use a Roland Space Echo, the small resissue pedal, not an original tape unit, and adjust the delay to where i need it. Works pretty darn good.
