Title: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: hywelg on July 22, 2008, 12:57:50 PM Love the cleans of my OTS (still need a bit more brightness tho' thats another story) , and the od channel now its got a 5751 in V2. This gives me much less gain, more of an extension to the clean channel which I really like.
I want to try and get that Marshall crunch sound from a pedal and I've seen the clips on Xotics website and wondered if anyone had tried one with the OTS Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: Steven_nl on July 22, 2008, 03:20:03 PM check out Jack

I need to hear some powerchords!! Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: Steven_nl on July 22, 2008, 06:24:54 PM I had the impression Jack uses the OTS for most of his demos. Not sure though.
Yeah it seems I'm right http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P0DroDwyhk Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: jzucker on July 22, 2008, 07:38:57 PM I actually use my EL84 ceriatone and my plexi as much as I use the OTS. I'm actually quite happy with the other 2 ceriatones and a zendrive. Plus, I recently aquired a '64 Vibraverb clone which I really like.
Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: ChrisL on July 22, 2008, 11:28:29 PM I have a BB, RC Booster, Zendrive, MJM Blues Devil, and a Bad Monkey (seriously) on my board.
The BB boosted with the RC can get pretty nasty in a really good way. Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: mcinku on July 23, 2008, 06:18:51 AM I have BB and RC as well (TS9 is there as well) and like Chris said, you can get huge tone with those pedals. I really like the tone stack on these Xotic pedals, it really helps with shaping your sound.
;) Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: ChrisL on July 24, 2008, 01:29:26 AM Hey Jack,
Vibro clone?? Do tell! I actually use my EL84 ceriatone and my plexi as much as I use the OTS. I'm actually quite happy with the other 2 ceriatones and a zendrive. The BB boosted with the RC can get pretty nasty in a really good way. ChrisL, does this mean you're running the RC into the BB? I'm very curious how you have the Zen, RC and BB stacked on your board. I have those pedals as well. I love the RC, it's been with me for years. I think I'm currently running the zen into the BB and then the RC is last in the chain. I don't think this is optimal. I've been lazy and really should redo the board. Jim Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: poticasoti on August 17, 2008, 10:20:04 AM I am using a MI Audio Tube Zone through my OTS and it rocks. I run it on the clean channel for a crunchy Marshall tone. The Tube Zone is a very versatile pedal and does everything from greasy o/d to fully blown Metal grunt. Takes a bit of tweaking to get the tone you want but once you do its bliss! ;D

There are a lot of great tones with this lineup. Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: Jimmyd on August 17, 2008, 05:16:59 PM I have the RC going into the BB. RC, meet your brother BB. jim Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: jake on August 17, 2008, 07:17:51 PM Just tried a Vers 3 OCD set on low peak with the drive @ 10:00, works very well with the OTS on both channels.
Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: hywelg on October 07, 2008, 07:14:14 PM Well, I got one today. Its just what I'm after, a little bit of Marshall crunch when added to the clean channel of the OTS, way better than the Crowther Hot Cake someone I know recommended. I've just put a Red Snapper in front of it, set for very mild O/D and that combo works a treat.
Will get to try it a rehearsal next week so I'l report back when I've had the chance to wind it up a bit, but so far I'm very impressed. Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: poticasoti on October 09, 2008, 08:56:37 AM I used one through a different amp and it is a really liquid kind of pedal. I wouldn't say its Marshall like, it just gives you added dirt without colouring your tone at all.
Title: Re: Anyone here using an Xotic BB? Post by: hywelg on October 09, 2008, 10:00:51 AM I reckon its as close to Marshall thro a Fender that i've tried yet. I keep the pedal gain very low with not much treble and it gives a nice partial beakup on the OTS clean channel. Not so good on the OD channel. I really wanted the BB+ as that has a tone stack, and based on my positive experience with the BB I will be looking for one of those soon.
What I'm aiming for is (and bear in mind I play in a covers band and need a wide variety of tone from Koss to Costello!) to get pedals to give me the tone I want, only over the clean channel, then I can have a slightly higher gain on the OD (currently a 5751 in V2) for a D*ish lead tone. I'm not particularly interested in the tone of a pedal over the OD channel. |
