Title: Suggestion for amp build
Post by: beatnik on December 13, 2012, 09:39:51 AM
Hello everybody,

I'm planning to build my first tube amp. I have experience with electronics, having built a lot of pedals and studio gear, but now I need to taste the tubes!

I would go with the ceriatone builds, but there are many and I don't know which one to choose.

The amp will be mainly used for recordings, so low power is preferred.

I'd like an amp that takes very well fx pedals (fuzzboxes, filters,...)

And even better if it works both for guitar and bass (I'd make different cabinets then)

I don't need super clean sounds, neither high gain death metal distortions.

Single channel would be fine, but must take distortion pedals very well.

Really hope to hear some advice from you.

Regards

Giacomo

If you want to build an amp that can be used with both guitar and bass, I wouldsuggest the plexi bass 1986, Fender Bassman, or JTM45. The only problem with the 3 amps I suggested is they are all 50 watters and you mentioned wanting a low powered amp.
I just finished a Plexi Bass build a couple weeks ago and can say this amp has a very inspiring tone. It can also very easily be modded to the plexi lead 1987 circuit if you find it too bassy!
