Are you brand new to guitar playing? With the Fender's and Marshall's, Nik uses the exact same names that the manufacture did. The Train Wreck, Hiwatt, Matchless, Bad Cat, etc. are a play on words that is so close as not to be in doubt. As far as power........It is pretty much an industry standard. 2 x 6V6, 2 x EL84, 2 x 6L6, 2 x EL34, etc. etc. The power does not really vary just because the name on the amp changes. Was there something in particular? Title: Re: Real name of Clone Amps???? Post by: wyatt on December 31, 2010, 07:19:40 PM Hired Hand is right, almost all the "clones" are named exactly after the original model number. Much of the rest aren't clones of one specific amp.

Spitfire..Matchless Spitfire Lightning...Matchless Lightning Dizzy 30...Matchless C30 Stray Bad....Bad Cat Hot Cat TW Clones... Expression...Trainwreck Express Liverpull...Trainwreck Liverpool Rock It!...Trainwreck Rocket Ceriatone Overtone...Dumble Overdrive Special Hey What? 504...Hiwatt Model 504 Hey What? 103...Hiwatt 103 All of the rest aren't clones. While based on vintage designs, all are variations and mods either designed by Ceriatone or common amp designs developed through collaboration online over the last decade or so. Technically none are clones, Nik doesn't do period correct clones, his are modern amps using classic circuits with modern components and features. You have the model numbers, you can look up the specs/wattage for yourself via google. Title: Re: Real name of Clone Amps???? Post by: bluesHarp on January 01, 2011, 06:13:00 AM Thanks for the reply.

Ceriatone doesn't offer a traditional Vox. They do offer plenty of Matchless amps which are Vox preamp designs made tighter and more modern, they are the same pedigree...but don't sound the same as a Vox (though with a few tweaks..namely weaker power filtering..could). Ceriatone doesn't offer a Blackface-style Fender Reverb amp either. This is that signature Fender tone...scooped mids, spanky, shimmering top end, and tight, punchy low end and lots and lots of drippy reverb. The sound made famous by surf, '60's-'80 blues, classic R&B and Soul, and '70's country. They do offer lots of Tweed Fenders and vintage, lower gain Marshalls. These are the sound of more lo-fi '50's blues and more rock-based blues. They are very, very popular amps for today's blues players. For Santana, they don't offer a Mesa Boogie-based amp, which really defined his tone for most of his career. But they do offer the Ceriatone Overtone a few options that are very, very similar to Santana's current amp choices and they have the saturation to really give that Santana tone. For Vox and Surf, I might look elsewhere right now. And for Santana, it would be very easy to just buy a used Boogie Mk. II or something. The Overtone HRM Mk. II could be a good Santana amp, it's 50 watts though. For blues and rock, their are a lot of good options. I'll warn you the even 5 watts can be too much to be able to turn up in a apartment situation or a house with people nearby. Title: Re: Real name of Clone Amps????
